Dear learned ones and elders,

Pranaamamulu.

Recently i read a commentory on 'Manthra Pushpam'.

It tells how the evolution has taken place and etc..etc.

There is also some description of 'Maha Vishnu'.

May i know from elders :

 

i)why it is read in temples before the diety as it looks like more of a

'teaching' to a disciple?

ii)I heard 'Mantra pushpam' being read both in Vaishnava temples as well as

Shaiva temples.Is there any difference between the two?Or is it the same

'Mantra pushpam'?

Samsaraa does not mean just wife and children. Any wrong attachment

can result in samsaara. One can give up everything but that does not

make him detached - one can get attached even to a koupiinam or stone

where one sleeps. What is required is correct understanding.

VishishhTadvaita emphasizes the fact that Lord Naarayana is

antaryaamin - or pervades everything - chara and achara - movable and

immovables. There is no place where He is not as Prahallada teaches

his father.

 

Hence we need to understand two facts as we live through this life -

one is our temporal relationships and the other is our relationship

with the Lord. I am a husband, wife, son, father, friend, neighbor,

employee etc and these relationships are temporal. When I encounter

my wife I am husband and when I encounter my son or daughter I am a

father. In my office I am employer or employee etc. These are

temporal relationships. But my relationship with the Lord is not

temporal since there is no set up where He is not there. I cannot be

alone anywhere- even in me He is antaryaami or indweller. Hence it

is more a fundamental relationship. I am only a husband in the

temporary set up when I encounter my wife. But I am a devotee all

the time since I am encountering the Lord in all set-ups. If one

examines this correctly - I am husband plus a devotee also, since in

the set-up where I encounter my wife, wife is there plus the Lord.

So the total relationship should be Wife + a devotee, Husband+ a

devotee, Son + a devotee, Friend + a devotee, employee + a devotee

and in front of the Lord I am devotee + a devotee! .

 

Husband + a devotee becomes a devoted husband - son plus a devotee

becomes a devoted son . Hence my relationships become - a devoted

husband, a devoted wife, a devoted son, a devoted student, a devoted

employee -a devoted devotee too, etc provided I do not loose sight

of the presence of the Lord in all these encounters. A truly devoted

husband is not a henpecked husband - he is devoted to Lord in the

form of the wife and does his obligatory duties with full

understanding of husband-ship. In fact Lord has provided a

environment that is most suitable to our vaasanaas to exhaust them

with proper understanding. If I can see the Lord everywhere and

every set up how can be greedy, how can I be mean or and how can I be

a bad husband!

 

Hence it is not running away from relationships but establishing the

right relationships with proper understanding and that is what is

involved in all relationships.

 

If acts properly with correct understanding that Lord is there

everywhere, then life becomes a beautiful sport with the Lord.

Here I believe Bhagavan Ramanuja was more interested in the welfare of

the masses then his own Moksham. If all the masses can reach Paramapadam

by the knowledge and practice of thirumantram and the price that he pays

for that is his potential recluse to 'Narakam', then Bhagavan Ramanuja was

ready

to pay the price, for the sake of all human beings.

Dear Sri Sadagopan,

 

Just a quick clarification, I thought that the vaijaiyanthi malai was a

gift given to Sri Mahalakshmi upon emerging from the parkadal (milk-ocean)

by the Goddess Saraswathi. Also, from what I have encountered previously,

the vaijayanthi malai is a pearl necklace, not a flower garland

(vanamaalai)...

When we say that all paths lead to the same Truth, it is implied that no

single path can be looked upon as superior or inferior, simple or difficult.

Whatever the path one takes, the seeker must long for God-experience and

must be prepared to work hard for it. The Katha Upanishad describes this

journey towards God as walking on a razor's edge.

There is no difference between a true Jnani and a true bhakta. Jayateertha,

a follower of Shri Ramanucharya, describes bhakti as love for God

accompanied by True Knowledge
