  1. Hi friends, after doing many years silent devi japa. I really want to learn now the Sri Cakra Navavarana Puja. Could you please send me a hint, where I can get a good instruction for doing it? 5. Hello everybody! I need help. I wanna have a sentence tattooed: it's from an Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros' song and it's called "Om Nashi Me". Now, they say that this is sanskrit and means "Oh infinite nakedness" in english, as an insipiring way to live. But how can I know if that's true? I've searched everywhere and I couldn't find if this is the right translation. Can anyone help me? I don't wanna have a sentence tattooed with the wrong meaning or, even worse, without meaning. Thanks a lot for your help!! Peace and love.
  6. Hello ! I have trouble finding the right pronunciation of औ and ऐ and i would like to have a pronunciation guide by an ancient source for classical sanskrit. I heard patanjali in his Mahabhashya would have done this. Does someone know where in this work he speaks about the pronunciation of these letters and what he says about how to pronounce them ? Thank You !
  7. I want to translate the first verse from the Nagavagga portion in the Dhammapada into sanskrit. I want to incorporate it into some artwork I am doing and I can't seem to find it anywhere (I am also considering adding it to an elephant tattoo I have so I want to verify that it is correct)! Also, is there a print version of the Dhammapada that is in sanskrit? I really want a copy of it for future reference, but It appears as if this has not been done. It is verse 320: As an elephant in battlefield withstands the arrow shot from a bow, so shall I endure abuse. Indeed, many people are without morality. If it is easier to translate I believe that this is written in Gandhari: Aham nagova sangame capato patitam saram ativakyam titikkhissam dussilo hi bahujjano. Thank you very much to anybody who helps out, I greatly appreciate the time taken

  11. Vedic Sanskrit, as old as 1500 BC, is believed by some scholars to be the oldest attested form of the Sanskrit language. In my hobby of epigraphy, I have translated some Sanskrit inscriptions that I believe to be older than Vedic Sanskrit. Here is a link to the article: decipherquarterly

  16. Hi, I first got into Sanskrit out of the words claiming that Sanskrit is of perfect structure, and could be used for computer programming. It's been years since I've started learning and I have run into issues that make me question the so-called perfect structure of Sanskrit. On phonology, there is no short e or o, and the only dipthongs are ai and au. In my mind, wouldn't a perfect language have more dipthongs, such as ae, ao, ia, iu, ie, iu, io, etc. and even tripthongs? I've read somewhere the short e and o were absorbed into short a... This is probably my Anglophone status speaking, but I found no "f" in the Sanskrit language. Latin and Greek have the subjunctive mood, and yet Classical Sanskrit doesn't. Shouldn't precision also include being able to express yourself through every possible grammatical avenue, without any declensions or conjugations sharing morphological endings? Not to bash on Sanskrit itself, but what I found contests the idea that it is the perfect language in my mind.
  17. Hello Could somebody please translate this sentence for me into Sanskrit - "Nothing lies beyond the reach of prayer except that which lies beyond the will of God" - Thanks in advance Kayla
  18. There are so many posts in this thread asking for help in writing names in Hindi/Sanskrit for tattoing. I am really curious to know how so many people (many of whom may not have met each other) are interested in knowing how their names or the names of some of their near and dear ones look in Sanskrit. Could you please throw some light on how you got interested in seeing names in Sanskrit? Please note. I am asking this only out of curiosity. (The thread 'Do you want to write in Hindi/Sanskrit' should help you create tattoos in Hindi/Sanskrit.)
  19. I am an artist working on a commission which involves the rumi quote, "everything of the universe is within you..." translated. It is most important that I get the written sanskrit version of it as that is what I plan to put on the piece. However, if you could also provide a spoken version that would be fantastic. I use different langauges and symbols in my art a lot so I like to know how to say the translation also. No big deal though, written is what I really need. Any help is greatly appreciated!
