  1. Yes hari , although my family members are able to understand that we should not kill such worms to make silk cloth, but they are not able to realise that. My mom likes it very much. They have been feeded like this from childhood, i normally see everyone have thier own form of happiness. for someone eating in Pitza corner and going for movie is happiness. for someone wearing silk cloths , for someone being with his girlfriend... If we dont do what we think is happiness we feel bad about it and we feel sad. I suppose that neutrality wont come if one is not willing to override his definitions about happiness. He has to break that agenda. Madhava Kesava Madhana Gopala /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Srivats
  2. No Enlightened No problem at all, i didnt mean that way too , actually speaking i will go through many posting , but some i wont be able to understand although i am from priest family ( very orthodox ) who know little bit of sanskrit ( its jus that i will be able to grasp meaning of some slokas ). because of the reason that i dont know much basics about hinduism ( guess that y i am studying kannadasan books on hinduism ) I will tell one thing for the user , Hinduism is a ocean and with all good things at the very deep end of it , people who are hindus , noramlly ride over it in ships and does not know the actual value of things inside it , they simply follow the rituals but donot know why thye have to do that , ( this i really dont like ). Our rituals are intrepreted wrongly in many ways..Best religion since worst follewed gives bad names to whole group of people , A wrong saint will be the model for all saints, and people will think that every saint is doing something bad and ashrams are only wrong places.I have got a good anser for this in kannadhasan book. Now all i am trying to do is light a candle of knowledge and try to spread the brightness to my circle of people. Ever since i started taking single step towards krishna he takes 100 steps towards me.. Madhava Kesava Madhana Gopala /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Srivats
  3. Among the 10 avatars , Balrama and krishna avatars belongs to same age , thats still surprising when somebody said that balrama is none but the aadhisheshan of vishnu who has come down with him to protect him , And its the same Aadhisheshan who has come down as Lakshman in Ram avatar. Well is the Balrama is considered as Vishnus avatar or its that aadhisheshan ? Or if he is the avatar , then balarama should be considered equal to krishna , but i think only krishna is given more important. Why is it soo ? I jus whant to find out the thatparya behind it. 4. I suppose there is no need to change anyone in this world. Hinduism never says to convert others to our religion , but it has all good thougths of other religions and thus it can be viewed as one big religion which has digested other religions but still sees other religions with due respect and freindship. If someone has to follow our religion hinduism will have warm welcome , but in turn it does not treat non hindus badly. /images/graemlins/shocked.gif Good flowers never publish advertisements to attract bees, its the bees who inturn has to search a flower which has good nector. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif Conversion is possible in religions like islam and christinity , there are procedures/rituals to do that but Hinduism there is no conversion , as we believe all religions lead to one god only. I had scared sometimes due to the preaching of christinity and islam population that one day , i have to see my Dwarakha temple or braghadeshwar temple in museums. /images/graemlins/confused.gif But hindiusm is like big ocean and taking drops of it never make it less ! , or it can be viewes as well, which has got water stream inside it , so how much water u take , it will only increase the water flow inside the well. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Madhava Kesava Madhana Gopala Srivats

  8. This song i learnt jus few days back , i felt this is soo good to be shared with you all. This is a tamil song so i translate using my little knowledge. Poet : T.Krishna Raagham : Kanada Thalam : Aadhi Enna solli azhaithaal varuvaayo - nee Eliyen endhanai , enidhu aatkholla Charanam --- 1 Pannaga Shayana , Prama Dhyaakara Padham panindhen , sathgathi peravey naan (2) ----- Aabhayamendra karikku udhaviya naamamo Aarinangin maanam , kathadhor naamamo Aranmanathidai sadhaa jabithidum naamamo Avaniyor uraithidum aayiram naamathil (2) Enna solli azhaithaal varuvaayo - nee Eliyen endhanai , enidhu aatkholla Meaning ------------- Using what name i should call you to make you come to me To give your grace to this poor devotee Hey Lord ( who is residing in Snake called Pannaga - this could be the aadhi sheashan ) Parama Dhayakara - Who helps everyone. I have surrended myself to you to attain sathgathi (salvation) Is the name that Gajendra called you ? (Aadhimulam - Who is very first of everything) Or is that name which saved Drowpathi ? (Parandhama ) Will it be the name which is chanted in heart ? (Ram) Or is that one among tha thousand names for you in the world ? ------------ If you see this song doesnot contain any gods name , but implicitly talking only about krishna. Whenever we call a person who is having more than one name , we will normally ask them , using which name we should call him/her to please ( this will also make the person comfortable ) Likewise the poet is asking the almighty to tell using which name will be happy for him , so he can come down to save. ( What a Imagination ? ) All art forms are channel to attain his feet ! ---------- I wish whoever reading this song to enjoy and have full grace of krishna ! 15. Can anyone please write to me about the bala leela of krishna and thier thathparyaas ... My parents are not allowing me to read Srimad Bhagawatham they say ther will be fights in home if one reads that . Instead suggesting to read only Bhagawat Gita Today i did one of the happiest things.. i had small cradel with teddy bear on it all these days, when i saw my krishna idol ( with butter in one hand and scrowling pose ) i decided to give him more comfort, i swifted the teddy , put nice cloth on the cradel and let my lord to swing on it happily , i stood there , starring my lord for some time . Whats there with out serving him ? I want to buy a good idol of krsna , the one i have is too small so i cannot decorate him , but i am scared that buying little big one costs much. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

  17. ---------------- Get out of ignorance my friend, see the truth , you may not kill things because you can , but you can use things when you need them for basic survival. Even Krishna agrees with this... ------------ My primary intension of posting this question ( if you can read the posting and get that ) to find out if we have the chance of avoiding it why we do it ? " but you can use things when you need them for basic survival" That means not wearing silk dress will not make us survive. Enlighten , you might have crossed ur ignorance and still near to god , but pls pls... never expect people of learning class to immediately raise to ur level. Please give me (poeple like us ) some time and knowledge to come to ur level. Radhey Shyam Srivats
  18. ------------- The "supreme personality of the godhead" (fancy title isnt it) or simply Krishna said that we neither hurt nor harm anyone because we as individual souls are indestructable... ----------- Its there in the second chapter of gita .. but in all purana stories depicting the glory of gita, its been said not to eat animals , and if one does he will again born as that animal or such kind. Rama avatar is the one example of how a man should be, Rama lived according to all vedic verses, so he was called vedanayaga , he himself when offered fish from kuhan accepted it but didnt had it. I dont believe in your idea about being non vegetarian.I heared in a vedanta that one pure rishi according to vedas should not disturb any living creature in this world, he should live in water and leaves, that too leaves that will fall from trees to the ground. 19. Silk dress is considered to be orthodox , for all rituals of hinduism , even in marriages , at temples above all , in all tempels lord krsna and other deities were decorated with only silk cloths. If Bagawat-gita imposes vegetarian life , will god allow so many butterflies to die to make a good dress ? atleast nonveg eaters eat one chicken or goat , but at a time we have to kill thousands of butterfly worms to get a silk dress. Is there anything in verses about this ? Madhava Kesava Madhana Gopala /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Srivats
  20. I do accept this methdology , jus getting engaged in something will be the best thing to do , Its really hard to control our mind when its taking its direction towards sex ......Even when the lips pronouncing gods name / slokas the mind will work hard to find the way.. realising what our immediate goal ( about our job / studies, what we want to become ) may stop that , if our goal are really important to us , If nothing works out . Surrendering to almighty is the solution. Can someone post more views on this ? Madhava Kesava Madhana Gopala /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Srrivats
  21. ----------- Reciting everyday every chapters basically implies following them in day today life . ------------- This is very true, how can we expect a person to construct a huge building if he is not practising whatever he learned in engineering book . 25. I have come across this material while searching something else , This material is very basic in Q&A form and easy to understand for all our freinds. ------------ Why is Hinduism so confusing ? There are multiple reasons for that. Trying to do an in and out analysis without getting on to taste its fruit by practicing would make one feel exhausted. Because it is not a religion of limited contours. It is really an ocean of knowledge. But don't we find quite contradicting statements in Hindu scriptures ? What explains that contradiction ? Science tells us that water becomes ice when its temperature falls to zero degree centigrade or below. The same science also tells that water can exist even in temperatures below zero degree in certain conditions and the water is called super-cooled water. Which one to believe ? The fact remains that both the statements are true however contradicting they are. Hinduism - an open religion - supports the view that there could be multiple facets of the same truth! And hence the things that have a value in them would find their place in Hinduism. Some scriptures would say knowledge is the way to the Supreme and some would say devotion is the way! There is no need to be confused. Choose the way that is appropriate in your situation, but do remember just because one is approprite for you, the others do not cease to be true !! Why there are so many gods in Hinduism ? Generally Hindus believe in one Supreme God. But there are many devas who are praised in the religion. These devas are actually the life supporting powers. For example Sun, Moon, and Air without which the life cannot exist. God is called devadeva because It is the Thing on which even all these celestial powers survive on. In Hinduism these elements which make the life possible are praised along with the Very Essential God. This gives the feeling that Hindus believe in many gods. Why Hindus worship idols ? Though the Supreme God is beyond a definite form with specifiable attributes, the Attributeless could be enjoyed only at a matured yogic state. For the benefit of the creatures the God appears in various forms for the matured visions. These splendid forms are easy to comprehend even for a layman. Apart from these Hindus worship the holy symbols like shiva li.ngam those making ease in meditation and worship at the same time referring to God's formlessness. A carrier to move to the destination with ease. Does Hinduism prohibit meat eating ? There are actually very less things as prohibits, commands, mandates etc in Hinduism. So in this case too Hinduism does not prohibit, but it recommends that meat eating could be avoided for spiritual benefits and kindness towards fellow creatures. What is Hinduism's sacred text ? Hinduism is not based on one single text book. Though it could be said that vedas are the base, in essence veda is nothing but knowledge. It is the science of the self and Supreme. The science can not be limited to one book so is Hinduism. What are the marks on the forehead of Hindus ? There are many virtual lotuses of power locus in the human body. The one at the place between the eye brows is highly powerful (which could be felt). This highly sensitive point is protected with the kumkum or chandan dots. Shaivites adorn their forehead with the Holy Ash the one with medicinal power and spiritual meaning and the vaishnavas with the shri chUrNam and so on each indicative of something. Why is Hinduism so complex to understand ? Well, Hinduism was not born out of the thoughts of one particular philosopher or at one particular time. It is an accumulation of the knowledge and experience of seers from ancient time. Also as it does not impose the supremacy of one specific postulation hence many complementary at times totally different concepts exist because of this openness. This advantage makes it sophisticated. So could it not be understood by simple minds ? It could certainly be and it is. Apart from being sophisticated it is also having various step by step procedures that arose out of the sophisticated thesis, for the layman to follow. Who can become a Hindu ? Can one be a Hindu only by birth ? No, not at all. As the knowledge in Hinduism is not in a closed boundary, Hinduism does not limit itself to any closed boundary of land, language or race. In fact people embracing Hinduism have been there for ages. Hinduism is the religion of one particular land called India, right ? No, actually not. This new name called Hinduism given to this discipline is what makes it appear it as the religion of one land. Though it is currently practiced mainly in India there are references in scriptures like Shiva mahaa puraaNam that this worship was spread throughout the world. While the other parts have forgotten this history it is still in practice now in other parts. The Aryans invaded the Dravidans and ... No, No. The words aryan and dravidan seem to be misinterpreted. The word arya has been used as a title of dignity while dravida refers to the land Deccan and not a race. The wars that are said to have happened between these two appears to be a tint of imagination added to the purANic, epical events. What is this caste system ? Quite long ago the society was divided into four castes depending upon the nature of service they do so that they together make sure the smooth running of the social system. It was like the operational divisions of organizations. These four castes were the four functional pillars on which the society was standing. In the course of time the caste started to get determined by birth and later some of these sections started considering themselves superior to others. This finally led to the cruelty and inhuman behaviors of untouchability etc. There has been time and again cautions from Hindu scholars against these inhuman behaviors. Now this system is getting phased out and the Hindus should be soon out of the bad taste it left. What is the status of women under Hinduism ? Hinduism that views God as both masculine and feminine (and neuter too), suggests the role of women hand in hand with her male counterpart. Feminity is worshipped in the forms of rivers, land, etc. Females have the right to perform worship as their male counterparts. There are many vedic sages, philosophers of later day, poets queens and so on from the womenfolk (1). If the male has the authority over the operations, the female commands the respect of the family. They do not compete but complement to form a better society. Quite naturally the wife is called saha dharmini or the companion in the dharma. In the course of time and especially in the last millenium there has been an major deterioration of this status due to whatever circumstances. It is time to shun away all those dirt accumulated on the way and rediscover the glory of the ancient equality. Who can be a Hindu ? All the people, without restrictions of any sort. For, the God is common to the one living in Arctic, Antartic as well as in Sahara. It is the God of those things beyond this Earth. Hinduism welcomes the pure knowledge from all horizons as well as can provide the paths for the whole world, with no exceptions, to lead a life that is relishable and that takes to the ever lasting Eternal Bliss. Here is a statement from the heart of the vedas May the mind stabilize on the rudra, by which we, the two legged creatures, four legged ones, the whole world prosper ! The Grace of God does not limit to even just human beings. Its is for all the lives in this earth and beyond ! So Hinduism emphasises that not only can all the humans worship through its path, but also shatters away all barriers that differentiate even animals to be not eligible for God's grace.
