1. The "mindfulness" you are referring to is the very definition of "Samadhi"--to help you see "Krishna is everywhere and in everyone", I included below a brief medley of verses below: ..................................................................................... Sri Krishna’s “Aham(s)” from the Bhagavad-gita: Bhagavan uvacha: 7.6—Of all that is material and all that is spiritual in this world, know for certain that I am both the origin and the dissolution. 7.7—There is no truth superior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung on a thread. 7.8—I am the taste of water, the light of the sun and the moon, the syllable <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comOm in the Vedic mantras; I am the sound in ether and Ability in man. 7.9—I am the original fragrance of the earth and I am the heat in fire. I am the life of all that lives, and I am the penances of all ascetics. 7.10—Know that I am the original seed of all existences, the intelligence of the intelligent, and the prowess of all powerful men. 7.11—I am the strength of the strong, devoid of passion and desire. I am sex life which is not contrary to religious principles. 7.12—Know that all states of being--be they of goodness, passion or ignorance--are manifested by My energy. I am, in one sense, everything, but I am independent. I am not under the modes of material nature, for they, on the contrary, are within Me. 7.13—Deluded by the three modes [goodness, passion and ignorance], the whole world does not know Me, who am above the modes and inexhaustible. 7.14—This divine energy of Mine, consisting of the three modes of material nature, is difficult to overcome. But those who have surrendered unto Me can easily cross beyond it. 7.15—Those miscreants who are grossly foolish, who are lowest among mankind, whose knowledge is stolen by illusion, and who partake of the atheistic nature of demons do not surrender unto Me. 7.16-17—Four kinds of pious men begin to render devotional service unto Me--the distressed, the desirer of wealth, the inquisitive, and he who is searching for knowledge of the Absolute. Of these, the one who is in full knowledge and who is always engaged in pure devotional service is the best. For I am very dear to him, and he is dear to Me. 7.18-19—All these devotees are undoubtedly magnanimous souls, but he who is situated in knowledge of Me I consider to be just like My own self. Being engaged in My transcendental service, he is sure to attain Me, the highest and most perfect goal. After many births and deaths, he who is actually in knowledge surrenders unto Me, knowing Me to be the cause of all causes and all that is. Such a great soul is very rare. 7.21-22—I am in everyone's heart as the Supersoul. As soon as one desires to worship some demigod, I make his faith steady so that he can devote himself to that particular deity. Endowed with such a faith, he endeavors to worship a particular demigod and obtains his desires. But in actuality these benefits are bestowed by Me alone. 7.23—Men of small intelligence worship the demigods, and their fruits are limited and temporary. Those who worship the demigods go to the planets of the demigods, but My devotees ultimately reach My supreme planet. 7.24-25—Unintelligent men, who do not know Me perfectly, think that I, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, was impersonal before and have now assumed this personality. Due to their small knowledge, they do not know My higher nature, which is imperishable and supreme. I am never manifest to the foolish and unintelligent. For them I am covered by My internal potency, and therefore they do not know that I am unborn and infallible. 7.26—As the Supreme Personality of Godhead, I know everything that has happened in the past, all that is happening in the present, and all things that are yet to come. I also know all living entities; but Me no one knows. 7.30—Those in full consciousness of Me, who know Me, the Supreme Lord, to be the governing principle of the material manifestation, of the demigods, and of all methods of sacrifice, can understand and know Me, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, even at the time of death. 8.4-5—The physical nature, which is constantly changing, is called adhibhuta [the material manifestation]. The universal form of the Lord, which includes all the demigods, like those of the sun and moon, is called adhidaiva. And I, the Supreme Lord, represented as the Supersoul in the heart of every embodied being, am called adhiyajna [the Lord of sacrifice]. And whoever, at the end of his life, quits his body, remembering Me alone, at once attains My nature. Of this there is no doubt. 9.4—By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them. 9.5—And yet everything that is created does not rest in Me. Behold My Mystic opulence! Although I am the maintainer of all living entities. I am everywhere. I am not part of this cosmic manifestation. My ‘Self’ is the very source of creation. 9.6-11—Understand that as the mighty wind, blowing everywhere, rests always in the sky, all created beings rest in Me. At the end of the millennium all material manifestations enter into My nature, and at the beginning of another millennium, by My potency, I create them again. The whole cosmic order is under Me. Under My will it is automatically manifested again and again, and under My will it is annihilated at the end. All this work cannot bind Me. I am ever detached from all these material activities, seated as though neutral. This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, producing all moving and nonmoving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again. Fools deride Me when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature as the Supreme Lord of all that be. 9.16—I am the ritual. I am the sacrifice. I am the offering to the ancestors. I am the healing herb. I am the transcendental chant. I am the Butter and the Fire and the Offering. 9.17—I am the father of this universe. I am the mother. I am the support and the grandsire. I am the object of knowledge. I am the purifier and the syllable ‘Om’. I am also the Rg, the Sama and the Yajur Vedas. 9.18—I am the goal. I am the sustainer. I am the master, the witness, the abode, the refuge, and the most dear friend. I am the creation and the annihilation. I am the basis of everything, the resting place and the eternal seed. 9.19—I give heat. I withhold and send forth the rain. I am immor-tality. I am also death personified. Both spirit and matter are in Me. 9.22—Those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental form--to them I carry what they lack, and I preserve what they have. 9.24—I am the only enjoyer and master of all sacrifices.I am equal to all. 9.29—Whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him. 10.2—Neither the hosts of demigods nor the great sages know My origin or opulences, for, in every respect, I am the source of the demigods and sages. 10.4-5—Intelligence, knowledge, freedom from doubt and delusion, forgiveness, truthfulness, control of the senses, control of the mind, happiness and distress, birth, death, fear, fearlessness, nonviolence, equanimity, satisfaction, austerity, charity, fame and infamy--all these various qualities of living beings are created by Me alone. 10.6—The seven great sages and before them the four other great sages and the Manus [progenitors of mankind] come from Me, born from My mind, and all the living beings populating the various planets descend from them. 10.7—One who is factually convinced of this opulence and Mystic power of Mine engages in unalloyed devotional service; of this there is no doubt. 10.8—I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. 10.9—The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are fully devoted to My service, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss from always enlightening one another and conversing about Me. 10.10—To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me. 10.11—To show them special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance. 10.19—My opulence is limitless. 10.20—I am the Supersoul seated in the hearts of all living entities. I am the beginning, the middle and the end of all beings. 10.21—Of the Adityas I am Visnu. Of lights I am the radiant sun. Of the Maruts I am Marici. Among the stars I am the moon. 10.22—Of the Vedas I am the Sama Veda. Of the demigods I am Indra, the king of heaven. Of the senses I am the mind. In living beings I am the living force [consciousness]. 10.23—Of all the Rudras I am Lord Siva. Of the Yaksas and Raksasas I am the Lord of wealth [Kuvera]. Of the Vasus I am fire [Agni]. Of mountains I am Meru. 10.24—Of priests know Me to be the chief, Brhaspati. Of generals I am Kartikeya. Of bodies of water I am the ocean. 10.25—Of the great sages I am Bhrgu. Of vibrations I am the transcendental “Om”. Of sacrifices I am the chanting of the holy names [japa]. Of immovable things I am the Himalayas. 10.26—Of all trees I am the banyan tree. Of the sages among the demigods I am Narada. Of the Gandharvas I am Citraratha. Among perfected beings I am the sage Kapila. 10.27—Of horses know Me to be Uccaihsrava, produced during the churning of the ocean for nectar. Of lordly elephants I am Airavata. Among men I am the monarch. 10.28—Of weapons I am the thunderbolt. Among cows I am the surabhi. Of causes for procreation I am Kandarpa, the god of love. Among the dispensers of law I am Yama, the lord of death. 10.30—Among the Daitya demons I am the devoted Prahlada. Among subduers I am time. Among beasts I am the lion. Among birds I am Garuda. 10.31—Of purifiers I am the wind. Of the wielders of weapons I am Rama. Of fishes I am the shark. Of flowing rivers I am the Ganges. 10.32—Of all creations I am the beginning and the end and also the middle. Of all sciences I am the spiritual science of the self. Among logicians I am the conclusive truth. 10.33—Of letters I am the letter A. Among compound words I am the dual compound. I am also inexhaustible time. Of creators I am Brahma. 10.34—I am all-devouring death. I am the generating principle of all that is yet to be. Of the wise I am the wisdom. 10.39—I am the generating seed of all existences. There is no being--moving or non-moving--that can exist without Me. 10.40—There is no end to My divine manifestations. 10.41—Know that all opulent, beautiful and glorious creations spring from but a spark of My splendor. 10.42—With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe. 11.32—Time I am, the great destroyer of the worlds. 12.6-8—I am the swift deliverer from the ocean of birth and death. Just fix your mind upon Me, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and engage all your intelligence in Me. Thus you will live in Me always, without a doubt. 14.3-4—The total material substance, called Brahman, is the source of birth, and it is that Brahman that I impregnate, making possible the births of all living beings. It should be understood that all species of life are made possible by birth in this material nature, and that I am the seed-giving father. 14.27—I am the basis of the impersonal Brahman, which is immortal, imperishable and eternal and is the constitutional position of ultimate happiness. 15.12—The splendor of the sun, which dissipates the darkness of this whole world, comes from Me. 3. Caution: I.L.T. - Individuality "Selflessness" Litmus Test . . . Allow me the chance to test a method of discerning individuality "Selflessness": General Public, You are a grand child. Your birth(s) are a sign that the world will proceed into further and further birthday parties--all due to individuals as your self. --end of test-- Bhaktajan asks: No individual liberty needed?
4. Allow me the chance to test a method of discerning individuality: Xenon, You are a grand fool. You are the Himalayas of stupidity incarnate. Your birth is a sign that the world will proceed into darker and darker fearsomeness--all due to individuals as your self. --end of test--
5. Every vector point in creation is possessed by an individual being [moving or non-moving]. Each vector point in creation is indivisable, unique and imbued with its own sensibilities [rasa]. Each vector point surveys it's own sphere of influence. The grand sphere of influence, composing a grander symphony than our ears are privy to hear, emanating from within the transcendent taboranacle, is enjoyed only by the elite top figurehead of all the little infintestimal aggragate particles. In the choir some of us individual beings think: "We are not-good enough for them." Or, they think that "Any club that would have me as a member must be filled with half-wits". 6. There is knowledge which is of the quality of sattva, tama, &/or raja. There is also transcendental knowledge. But, there is "realized knowledge" ('first hand knowledge') that is acquired through experience—by practical inquiry, exploration, analysis, and research; versus "book-knowledge" Below are some verses that show express this point: ………………………………………………………………………………………….. Bg 3.41 "Therefore, O Arjuna, best of the Bhäratas, in the very beginning curb this great symbol of sin [lust] by regulating the senses, and slay this destroyer of knowledge and self-realization." PURPORT The Lord advised Arjuna to regulate the senses from the very beginning so that he could curb the greatest sinful enemy, lust, which destroys the urge for self-realization and specific knowledge of the self. Jïäna refers to knowledge of self as distinguished from non-self, or in other words, knowledge that the spirit soul is not the body. Vijïäna refers to specific knowledge of the spirit soul’s constitutional position and his relationship to the Supreme Soul. It is explained thus in the Çrémad-Bhägavatam (2.9.31): jïänaà parama-guhyaà me yad vijïäna-samanvitam sa-rahasyaà tad-aìgaà ca gåhäëa gaditaà mayä “The knowledge of the self and Supreme Self is very confidential and mysterious, but such knowledge and specific realization can be understood if explained with their various aspects by the Lord Himself.” SB 1.6.2 Çré Vyäsadeva said: What did you [Närada] do after the departure of the great sages who had instructed you in scientific transcendental knowledge before the beginning of your present birth? PURPORT Vyäsadeva himself was the disciple of Näradajé, and therefore it was natural to be anxious to hear what Närada did after initiation from the spiritual masters. He wanted to follow in Närada’s footsteps in order to attain to the same perfect stage of life. This desire to inquire from the spiritual master is an essential factor to the progressive path. This process is technically known as sad-dharma-påcchä. SB 2.9.31 The Personality of Godhead said: Knowledge about Me as described in the scriptures is very confidential, and it has to be realized in conjunction with devotional service. The necessary paraphernalia for that process is being explained by Me. You may take it up carefully. PURPORT . . . The regulative principles are called vidhi-bhakti, or the devotional service of the Lord, and they can be practiced by a neophyte with his present senses. Such regulative principles are mainly based on hearing and chanting of the glories of the Lord. . . . made possible in the association of devotees only. Lord Caitanya therefore recommended five main principles for attaining perfection in the devotional service of the Lord. The first is association with devotees (hearing); second is chanting the glories of the Lord; third, hearing Çrémad-Bhägavatam from the pure devotee; fourth, residing in a holy place connected with the Lord; and fifth, worshiping the Deity of the Lord with devotion. Such rules and regulations are parts of devotional service. Bg 9.1 Two Sanskrit words: "jïänam"—knowledge; "vijïäna"—realized knowledge Bg 9.1 The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: My dear Arjuna, because you are never envious of Me, I shall impart to you this most confidential knowledge and realization, knowing which you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence. PURPORT As a devotee hears more and more about the Supreme Lord, he becomes enlightened. This hearing process is recommended in the Çrémad-Bhägavatam: “The messages of the Supreme Personality of Godhead are full of potencies, and these potencies can be realized if topics regarding the Supreme Godhead are discussed amongst devotees. This cannot be achieved by the association of mental speculators or academic scholars, for it is realized knowledge.” . . . Discussion of Kåñëa is very potent, and if a fortunate person has such association and tries to assimilate the knowledge, then he will surely make advancement toward spiritual realization. . . . Simply to understand that a living entity is not material is not sufficient. That may be the beginning of spiritual realization, but one should recognize the difference between activities of the body and the spiritual activities of one who understands that he is not the body. . . . No one can explain Bhagavad-gétä or give perfect knowledge of Kåñëa if he is envious. One who criticizes the character of Kåñëa without knowing Him is a fool. So such commentaries should be very carefully avoided. Bg 9.2Purport . . . transcendental knowledge involves understanding the difference between the soul and the body. And the king of all confidential knowledge culminates in devotional service. . . . That is a confidential part of knowledge: simply knowing that the spirit soul is different from this body and that its nature is immutable, indestructible and eternal. But that gives no positive information about the soul. Sometimes people are under the impression that the soul is different from the body and that when the body is finished, or one is liberated from the body, the soul remains in a void and becomes impersonal. But actually that is not the fact. How can the soul, which is so active within this body, be inactive after being liberated from the body? It is always active. If it is eternal, then it is eternally active, and its activities in the spiritual kingdom are the most confidential part of spiritual knowledge. . . . One who can see and is familiar with devotional service will know that they are not material activities. They are all spiritual and devotional, uncontaminated by the material modes of nature. It is said that the execution of devotional service is so perfect that one can perceive the results directly. This direct result is actually perceived, and we have practical experience that any person who is chanting the holy names of Krsna . . . without offenses feels some transcendental pleasure and very quickly becomes purified of all material contamination. This is actually seen. Furthermore, if one engages not only in hearing but in trying to broadcast the message of devotional activities as well, or if he engages himself in helping the missionary activities of Kåñëa consciousness, he gradually feels spiritual progress. This advancement in spiritual life does not depend on any kind of previous education or qualification. The method itself is so pure that by simply engaging in it one becomes pure. In the Vedänta-sütra (3.2.26) this is also described in the following words: prakäçaç ca karmaëy abhyäsät. “Devotional service is so potent that simply by engaging in the activities of devotional service one becomes enlightened without a doubt.” ………………………………………………………………………………. ys, Bhaktajan
7. Darky-ji, The Upanishads are expositions on the impersonal aspect of Bhagavan. The Gita is a chapter of Krishna's pastimes while He appeared on earth 5,000 year ago in the Royal Dynasty that had ruled the planet at that time. The Gita is directly a concession to the living entities embarking upon the on-coming age of Kali. The Gita's contents are the essense of the teachings of God to the living entities to attain moksha. The Gita battle field setting has a captive audience held by a stick rather than a carrot -- so, likewise, Krishna has spoken the Gita and Vyasadeva has transcribed the Gita (Mahabharata) for the common-minded every-day, run-of-the-mill, ordinary, simple, plain multitudes of our folks to comprehend the personage of Krishna and thus Vedanta.
8. After studying how japanese martial artists stay calm in fighting situations --through silent meditation, I then studied many Buddhist sutras and thus studied 'eastern metaphysics'. I then learned to do silent sitting meditation, where I experienced the state of "being conscious" while, at the same time, simultaneously "not thinking of anything in particular". Then I sought out sanskrit scriptures--but I was thwarted by non-authoritative translations (ie: Hippy-dippy new-age western pseudo-guru wanna-bees). After reading a English translation of the Bhagavad-gita "as-it-is" by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, I came upon the phrase: "The Supreme Personality of Godhead". Upon reading this term for the first time I asked the Hare Krishna Book distributor: "Do you realize what you are saying by way of this term 'The Supreme Personality of Godhead'? Can you back-up this with reason and logic to show that you have any proper authority to brandish and propagate this concept and its nomeclature? Well eshwaar101, The authoritative position of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami was so definitively the most authentically bonefide Guru-ship and scholarship that I became a aficinado of Bhaktivedanta Swami's translation of Vedic Scriptures instantly, and, ever since, I have been following Brahminical-yogic ettiqutte in my daily life. ys, Bhaktajan
9. What is Krishna Consciousness? Nothingness and Something-ness both existed together and sustained each other since time-immemorial, together this is called the material manifestation or the Cosmos. Something-ness may be found either conscious or in-animated. The Self: Each conscious Individual, within the cosmos, has as its own address a "Vector Point" [X-Y-Z Axis Intersection]—which is indivisible, individual, eternal, and conscious. An animated conscious individual may occupy a body [encasement]. This encasement allows the pursuit of its own gratification by way of: 1 Eating, 2 Sleeping, 3 Mating, 4 Defense (Physical, mental, ego). After the temporal stages of birth, growth, old age and death the vector point retains only the spirit of 'direction toward a **goal'. Thus by dint of prior cultivated interests, inherits a new body/encasement which accommodates another lifetime for the pursuit of gratification(s) along the same lines of interests that where cultivated during its last life. When this is repeated since time immemorial the sages call this 'samsara' [the cycle of birth and death]. [**the goal is often without guidance thus the 4 pursuits become the ultimate means and end of life's journey to nowhere except repeated gratification. Proper guidance allows us to reconcile, "What in the hell are we doing here?" during a lifetime]. The setting of the above pastimes [of every animated or inanimated individual point] is a large empty space of Nothingness [the sages call this empty space: 'brahman']. The in-animated elements within the cosmos are of two kinds: 1 gross matter [earth, water, fire, air, either], and, 2 subtle [mind, intelligence, ego]. The mystery of life is the attainment of transcendence. Some say the attainment of nirvana, or merging with the primordial 'Nothingness' is the goal. The chain of succession of knowledge that comes to us from Vyasadeva shows us [through dissatisfaction with our own pursuits —life time after life times of gratification in countless species of life— in varying births of different status] that the goal of life is to seek the 'Absolute Truth' not relative truths. The conclusion of the Vedas and thus the conclusion of Vedanta is the 'Absolute Truth' known as the personage known as <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Krishna. We know this 'Absolute Truth' in the same way we know who are real father is: from our mother [except for those who cultivated future disadvatages]. The Vedas are like our mother telling us who are father is etc, etc. Krishna Consciousness is the top most mystic yoga discipline: Remembering the transcendental name, fame, form, personality, paraphernalia, entourage, and, pastimes of none other than the Supreme Personality of Godhead Bhagavan Sri Krishna, son of Vasudeva, brother of Balarama, cousin of Arjuna, source of Mahavisnu and Narayana, the original-original eternal, all-cognizant, all-blissful form of God (in his Transcendent Heaven where every soul pursues reciprocal pastimes with Him face to face.) (Astanga-) Yoga is to re-link with this 'Absolute Truth', thus remembering Krishna's form assists the minute living entity [conscious Individual Vector Point] at death so as to acquire a next birth that further cultivates Krsna Conscousness till successful completion. Remembering Krishna in the material world is prescribed thus [it is also the easiest]: Chant Krishna's names. Chant the Hare Krishna Maha-Mantra. Read the Bhagavad-gita's Chapter 10 "The Opulence of the Absolute” [to learn where to see God's opulence spread through-out the cosmos.] .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .... The history of the Vedas, from the Sri Isopanisad Introduction: About five thousand years ago Vyasadeva put the Vedas in writing for the people in this age, Kali-yuga. He divided the Vedas into four: Rig, Sama, Atharva and Yajur. Then he gave the charge of these Vedas to his different disciples. Then Vyasadeva summarized all Vedic knowledge for scholars and philosophers in what is called the Vedanta-sutra. This is the last word of the Vedas. Vyasadeva was not very satisfied even after compiling many Puranas and Upanisads, and even after writing the Vedanta-sutra. Then his spiritual master, Narada, instructed him, “Explain the Vedanta-sutra.” Vedanta means “ultimate knowledge,” and the ultimate knowledge is Krsna. Krsna says that throughout all the Vedas one has to understand Him: vedanta-krd veda-vid eva caham. Krsna says, “I am the compiler of the Vedanta-sutra, and I am the knower of the Vedas.” Therefore the ultimate objective is Krsna. The Vedanta-sutra simply hints at what is Brahman, the Absolute Truth: “The Absolute Truth is that from whom everything emanates.” This is a summary, but it is explained in detail in Srimad-Bhagavatam. If everything is emanating from the Absolute Truth, then what is the nature of the Absolute Truth? That is explained in Srimad-Bhagavatam. The Absolute Truth must be consciousness. He is self-effulgent (svarat). We develop our consciousness and knowledge by receiving knowledge from others, but for Him it is said that He is self-effulgent. The whole summary of Vedic knowledge is the Vedanta-sutra, and the Vedanta-sutra is explained by the writer himself in Srimad-Bhagavatam. We finally request those who are actually after Vedic knowledge to try to understand the explanation of all Vedic knowledge from Srimad-Bhagavatam and the Bhagavad-gita. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. yours in Krishna's service, Bhaktajan
10. Kimflex, I predict an abundance of responses forthcoming for your posting. Wild Thought: Your "absolute belief in kindness and gentility" = your past birth sensibilities [where you were used to a much more sublime quality-of-life] which are now being super-imposed upon this terrestrial stratum of civic life. The Tama-guna's effects are heavier on our lower lokas than they are on upper spheres. Here "irony" is as thick as steel in density. Well, but, here we are on Bhumi-loka with duties to be observed and luckily with extra time to kill.
11. Dear kimfelix, You do not state the philosophical bedrock of your faith. What maxims of metaphysics and what philosophical maxims do you hold as absolute? Realized knowledge = practical knowledge based on authorities. This allows for peace of mind and allows one to be detached from the anxiety of petty cares. What do you recognize as the activities of the souls reason to exist? What have you learned about: 1 the Soul; and it’s nature and constitution (Jiva); 2 God’s personage and his relation to our body vs. our soul (bhagavan); 3 Actions/Reactions and Duties’ influence upon the body/soul (Karma & Karma-phalam) 4 Material energy’s influence upon the body/soul (prakriti); 5 Time’s influence(Kala); as explained and delineated in the Bhagavad-gita? . . . well, . . . Here is my attempt to offer some satisfactory responses to your question: Below is an illustration of the process we (spirit souls in material bodies go through since time immemorial). Krishna Consciousness is the path that many of my colleagues have take to after having studied world scriptures that culminated with the study of the Vedas of India---so after much real life lessons and real life questions as to the meaning and purpose of existence---after the truths available via the Judeo-Christian Bible, the Buddhist sutras, the Muslim Quran and the impersonal schools of Hindu metaphysics---everyone is destined to come to the Vedas with all the best cultivated "Questions" seeking the best "Answers". Krishna is has always been available to the spiritual seeker ---but we all had to wait until we’ve developed a free-will to seek out the purpose of life as ‘job #1’—whilst society undergoes many minor & world wars [ergo: Our participation through-out many past births] and many historical eras to pass . . . …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… ……… What is Krishna Consciousness? The conclusion of the Vedas and thus the conclusion of Vedanta is the 'Absolute Truth' known as the personage known as <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comKrishna. We know this 'Absolute Truth' in the same way we know who are real father is: from our mother [except for those who cultivated future disadvatages]. The Vedas are like our mother telling us who are father is etc, etc. Krishna Consciousness is the top most mystic yoga discipline: Remembering the transcendental name, fame, form, personality, paraphernalia, entourage, and, pastimes of none other than the Supreme Personality of Godhead Bhagavan Sri Krishna, son of Vasudeva, brother of Balarama, cousin of Arjuna, source of Mahavisnu and Narayana, the original-original eternal, all-cognizant, all-blissful form of God in his Transcendent Heaven where every soul pursues reciprocal pastimes with God face to face. Yoga is to re-link with this 'Absolute Truth', thus remembering Krishna's form assists the minute living entity [conscious Individual Vector Point] at death so as to acquire a next birth that further cultivates Krsna Conscousness till successful completion. Remembering Krishna in the material world is prescribed thus [it is also the easiest]: Chant Krishna's names. Chant the Hare Krishna Maha-Mantra. Read the Bhagavad-gita's Chapter 10 "The Opulence of the Absolute” to learn where to see God's opulence spread through-out the cosmos .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. We finally request those who are actually after Vedic knowledge to try to understand the explanation of all Vedic knowledge from Srimad-Bhagavatam and the Bhagavad-gita.] yours in Krishna's service, Bhaktajan
12. Dear Tirisilix, I am a long time devout Hare Krishna, and yet, I do not know any thing about "Krishna", but I do know about Krishna's devotees. It is unto these devotees of devotees that we can see God's magnaminity & munificense ---and, that we especially, can reciprocate with them. 15. animal slaughter = war, pestilence, famine and calamities. SB 1.4.10 . . . To kill cows means to end human civilization. ………………………………………………………………………………. Bg 14.16 Purport . . . Slaughtering poor animals is also due to the mode of ignorance. The animal killers do not know that in the future the animal will have a body suitable to kill them. That is the law of nature. In human society, if one kills a man he has to be hanged. That is the law of the state. . . . One has to pay for it. So indulgence in animal killing for the taste of the tongue is the grossest kind of ignorance. A human being has no need to kill animals, because God has supplied so many nice things. If one indulges in meat-eating anyway, it is to be understood that he is acting in ignorance and is making his future very dark. . . . Cow slaughter is an act of the grossest type of ignorance. In the Vedic literature (Åg Veda 9.4.64) the words gobhiù préëita-matsaram indicate that one who, being fully satisfied by milk, is desirous of killing the cow is in the grossest ignorance. There is also a prayer in the Vedic literature that states: . . . “My Lord, You are the well-wisher of the cows and the brähmaëas, and You are the well-wisher of the entire human society and world.” (Viñëu Puräëa 1.19.65) The purport is that . . . the brähmaëas and the cows, must be given all protection—that is real advancement of civilization. ……………………………………………………………………… JSD 7 Çréla Prabhupäda: . . . A God conscious brähmaëa would never advise opening slaughterhouses. But now, the many rascals heading the government allow animal slaughter. . . . Nowadays, unqualified men have taken the presidential post. And although they may pose themselves as very religious, they are simply rascals. Why? Because under their noses thousands of cows are being killed, while they collect a good salary. Any leader who is at all religious should resign his post in protest if cow slaughter goes on under his rule. Since people do not know that these administrators are rascals, they are suffering. And the people are also rascals because they are voting for these bigger rascals. …………………………………………………………………………… TQE 7: . . . Meat- or fish- or egg-eating—any nonvegetarian diet—is simply an attachment of the tongue. Nobody dies from not eating meat. That’s a fact. When we were babies we depended on milk, either our mother’s breast-milk or cow’s milk. Therefore the cow is also our mother. Just as we drink breast-milk from our mother, we drink milk from mother cow. You must not kill your mother; that is a great sin. Therefore meat-eating is prohibited. But people have become so sinful that they do not consider, “When I was young this cow supplied her blood in the form of milk to feed me, to keep me alive. But now that I am grown up, I am so ungrateful that I am going to kill her and eat her flesh.” This is the advancement of modern education: that people have learned how to kill their mother. ………………………………………………………………………… MG 3: . . . One may kill an animal to enjoy eating it, but he will be bound by such an action. Thus in one’s next life he will become a cow or a goat, and the cow or goat will become a man and eat him. This is the Vedic statement, and as with all Vedic statements, one may believe it or not. Unfortunately, at present people are educated in such a way that they do not believe in the next life. Indeed, it seems that the more “educated” one becomes, the less he believes in God, in God’s law, in the next life and in sinful and pious activities. Thus modern education is simply preparing men to become animals. …………………………………………………………………………. MG 4: . . . the second question put by Parékñit Mahäräja to Çukadeva Gosvämé is very important: How can one ultimately become free from all contamination brought about by the material modes of nature? If one cannot achieve liberation, what is the use of atonement? In answer, Çukadeva Gosvämé said that merely counteracting karma, fruitive activities, by other activities cannot bring one’s miseries to a final end. For example, the United Nations is attempting to establish peace in the world, but they cannot stop war. War breaks out again and again. . . . Çukadeva Gosvämé said that one kind of war causes a disturbance, and another kind of war stops it for some time, but that is not the ultimate solution to the problem. Çukadeva states that these troubles happen due to ignorance: avidvad-adhikäritvät. Avidvat means “lack of knowledge.” . . . Real atonement is performed in knowledge. Why is there fighting and why are there miseries? . . . These questions must arise: “Why am I suffering? Wherefrom have I come? What is my constitutional position? Where shall I go after death? Why am I put into a miserable form of life? Why are there birth, death, old age and disease?” How can these questions be solved? Çukadeva Gosvämé says: [sB 6.1.12]. If one wants to actually stop diseased life, he must follow a regulative principle. If a person does not follow the program given by a physician to cure his disease, he cannot be cured. . . . Similarly, if one does not think or act wisely, as Vedic knowledge prescribes, how can he stop the problems of life? Simply by atonement there may be a temporary suppression of difficulties, but they will arise again. Çukadeva Gosvämé says that in material or sinful life we act in a way in which we are forced to commit sins and suffer as a result. This is so, and if we want to stop this cycle of suffering and victimization, we have to advance in knowledge. Ordinary people, or karmés, are fruitive actors who work all day and night to get some enjoyable results and then again suffer. Thus the problems of such karmés are never solved. It is suggested therefore that one elevate himself to the platform of knowledge as prescribed in Çrémad-Bhägavatam. The first necessity is tapasya, or acceptance of austerity. If a doctor advises a diabetic patient not to eat but to starve for some days, although no one likes to starve, the patient must voluntarily accept starvation if he wants to be cured. This is tapasya: voluntary acceptance of a miserable condition. The ability to do this is good, and human life is meant for that purpose. Indeed, Vedic culture prescribes tapasya . . . ……………………………………………………………………………… SB 1.7.37 Purport: According to Manu, the great author of civic codes and religious principles, even the killer of an animal is to be considered a murderer because animal food is never meant for the civilized man, whose prime duty is to prepare himself for going back to Godhead. He says that in the act of killing an animal, there is a regular conspiracy by the party of sinners, and all of them are liable to be punished as murderers exactly like a party of conspirators who kill a human being combinedly. He who gives permission, he who kills the animal, he who sells the slaughtered animal, he who cooks the animal, he who administers distribution of the foodstuff, and at last he who eats such cooked animal food are all murderers, and all of them are liable to be punished by the laws of nature. No one can create a living being despite all advancement of material science, and therefore no one has the right to kill a living being by one’s independent whims. . . . eating meats supplied by organized slaughterhouses . . . are ghastly places for breeding all kinds of material afflictions to society, country and the people in general). The material world is itself a place always full of anxieties, and by encouraging animal slaughter the whole atmosphere becomes polluted more and more by war, pestilence, famine and many other unwanted calamities. ……………………………………………………………………………… SB 1.10.2 Purport . . . This world is compared to a forest fire caused by the cohesion of bamboo bushes. Such a forest fire takes place automatically, for bamboo cohesion occurs without external cause. Similarly, in the material world the wrath of those who want to lord it over material nature interacts, and the fire of war takes place, exhausting the unwanted population. Such fires or wars take place, and the Lord has nothing to do with them. But because He wants to maintain the creation, He desires the mass of people to follow the right path of self-realization, which enables the living beings to enter into the ffice:smarttags" />laceType w:st="on">kingdom of God. The Lord wants the suffering human beings to come back home, back to Him, and cease to suffer the threefold material pangs. The whole plan of creation is made in that way, and one who does not come to his senses suffers in the material world by pangs inflicted by the illusory energy of the Lord. ……………………………………………………………………………… SB 1.10.4 Purport . . . The basic principle of economic development is centered on land and cows. The necessities of human society are food grains, fruits, milk, minerals, clothing, wood, etc. One requires all these items to fulfill the material needs of the body. Certainly one does not require flesh and fish or iron tools and machinery. During the regime of Mahäräja Yudhiñöhira, all over the world there were regulated rainfalls. Rainfalls are not in the control of the human being. The heavenly King Indradeva is the controller of rains, and he is the servant of the Lord. When the Lord is obeyed by the king and the people under the king’s administration, there are regulated rains from the horizon, and these rains are the causes of all varieties of production on the land. ……………………………………………………………………………… SB 1.10.4 Purport: To be nonviolent to human beings and to be a killer or enemy of the poor animals is Satan’s philosophy. In this age there is enmity toward poor animals, and therefore the poor creatures are always anxious. The reaction of the poor animals is being forced on human society, and therefore there is always the strain of cold or hot war between men, individually, collectively or nationally. . . . ……………………………………………………………………………… SB 1.12.26 Purport: . . . Mahäräja Parékñit wanted to kill the personified Kali, who was attempting to kill a cow, the emblem of peace and religion. The symptoms of Kali are (1) wine, (2) women, (3) gambling and (4) slaughterhouses. Wise rulers of all states should take lessons from Mahäräja Parékñit in how to maintain peace and morality by subduing the upstarts and quarrelsome people who indulge in wine, illicit connection with women, gambling and meat-eating supplied by regularly maintained slaughterhouses. In this age of Kali, regular license is issued for maintaining all of these different departments of quarrel. So how can they expect peace and morality in the state? ……………………………………………………………………………… SB 1.16.4 Purport: . . . Human civilization means to advance the cause of brahminical culture, and to maintain it, cow protection is essential. There is a miracle in milk, for it contains all the necessary vitamins to sustain human physiological conditions for higher achievements. Brahminical culture can advance only when man is educated to develop the quality of goodness, and for this there is a prime necessity of food prepared with milk, fruits and grains.

Your family should have you to them selves before you take on some real life-long baggage of your own. So, since you have almost no time for your self you should think about sabbaticals to an ashram for a weekend or something simular where you can practice immercing your mind in 24 hour contemplation of Krishna's name, fame, form, personality, paraphenalia, & entourage. ................................................................................................ 20. When did it occur to you that the end is near? WWI? WWII? The Tsunami in 2006? The end of the world is viewable on the Media News every day. "There is danger at every step in the material world" --so we must become Krishna Conscious as soon as possible, before we loss the oppurtunity that our human form of life has afforded us. Every death is extreme and for the soul it is many times an 'embarassment' --a type of death that is telling of ones lack of regard for the precarious and preciousness that is walking on a razor's edge of existance. Krishna is exhibiting the grand cosmos and we are lost until we can constantly remember Krishna as the resorvior of all personal experiences--lest we are eligible only for seeing the ghastly manifestaions This past Saturday March 15, 2008 a construction crane fell atop a four story residence and reduced it to a pile of rubble--there was a visiting woman from Florida asleep in onme of the apartments, she died. There was a cleaning man in the ground floor Pub who was found alive with only a broken leg. The Name of the Bar was "FUBAR" [this name is an old Army acronym: "F**ked Up Beyond All Repair" or, "F**Ked Up Beyond Any Recognition"]. This mortal Irony is what you must guard against. Now, while in the human form of life, let us inquire unto the absolute truth which is indeed the very transcendental personage Krishna. "Before enlightenment chop wood and carry water --after enlightenment chop wood and carry water." --so the best we can self-protect ourself and soul is to perform our own alloted duty at all times. ys, Bhaktajan

March 15: Rescue workers search through wreckage as a section of collapsed crane lies on top of a crushed building on 50th Street near Second Avenue in New York. 22. Mazhar, The images of God are forbidden in Islam, correct? During Muslim holy days, the pastimes of the prophet are enacted on stage, correct? What historical events are dramatised on stage at religious feastivals? Are these staging of religious past events not contradicting the injuctions of the koran? sincerely, Bhaktajan Below is the reminder that the presentation of images from western scriptures brings great joy and revelry to the viewer. ..............................................................................................
