    Mental maturity?

    Krishna is looking for spiritual maturity, not mental maturity.

     

    The mind is a material energy covering of the soul.

    Krishna wants to see us get beyond the mind, not grow it into a nice mature accepting and rejecting machine.

     

    Very true!

    The beauty here is that it is Krishna Himself who gives us the maturity and also expects it from us!

     

    In Tamil, there is a nice saying 'avan arulAle avan thaal vanangi'. which means, 'It is by His grace that we bow down to Him!'.

     

    The easiest way to get his grace is by chanting the Mahamantra!

    This is my humble opinion:

     

    All the scriptures speak about the Divine Name of God being the only recourse for every soul in this Kali Yuga:

     

    kalau kalmasha chittaanaam paapadravyopa jiivinaam|

    vidhikriya vihIInaanaam gatir govinda kiirtanam ||

     

    harer naamaiva naamaiva naamaiva mama jiivanam |

    kalau naastyeva naastyeva naastyeva gatir anyata||

     

    kaler dosha nidhe rajan asti hyeko mahanguna: |

    kirtanaad eva krishnasya mukta-sanga: param vrajaet ||

     

    naama sankiirtanam yasya sarva paapa pranaasanam|

    pranaamo dukha samana: tam namaami harim param ||

     

    Srimad Bhagavatam speaks purely about Bhagavan Nama as the easiest path to attaining the lord.

     

    The Upanishads (Kali Santarana Upanishad) points us to those specific Divine Names of God that will help us cross this ocean of Samsara and enjoy the union of the Lord in this lifetime itself - and that is verily the Mahamantra.

     

    The order is not important. by continuously chanting it, we get the order that we require.

     

    By chanting the Mahamantra, we show our allegience to Krishna and surrender unto His Holy feet, showing our incapacity to tear apart this veil of Maya and transcend the false coverings to realize the True Self.

    Only through His grace can we reach that divine state of Bliss.

    And the easiest way to invoke His grace is by chanting the Mahamantra.

    The mundane disciple asked,

    "Should we keep any specific desire in our minds while praying to God?"

     

    The Master replied,

    "

    It depends on person to person. As many persons, so many needs. There is nothing wrong in desiring what you need. The scriptures classify devotees based on their prayers broadly into three categories:

    - Aarthi : One who prays to God desiring removal of his sufferings.

    - Arthaarthi : One who prays to God desiring comforts, wealth, fortune, and even heavens.

    - Jignyasu:One who prays to God for spiritual elevation leading to ultimate liberation.

     

    None of above are completely right or wrong.

     

    • A 3 year old kid would only ask his parents for toys. At his age, he is right in demanding it.
    • A 18 year old young man would ask his parents for a motorbike or a car.At his age, he is right in demanding it.
    • A 26 year old adult demands his parents for wealth and property. At his age, he is right in demanding it.

    Once he is mature enough to find that all these are fleeting, he would expect only their love.

     

    Our prayers to God are also very similar. He knows our mental maturity than any one else in the Universe, and so He grants our prayers accordingly."

    The mundane disciple asked,

    "I prayed to God sincerely. But the Lord did not answer my prayers. While, my friend prayed, and he got what he needed. Does my prayer lack faith? Why is Krishna partial?"

     

    The Master replied,

    "Any Prayer with the Mahamantra is a sincere prayer, whether you do it from your heart or whether you just chant the Maha Mantra as a lip-service and pray to Krishna. In either case, Krishna is pleased and listens to your prayers.

    Look around the world. Stop and think for a moment. The Sun, moon, stars, planets, animals, plants, and all the beings of the world are created and are being maintained in meticulous synchrony and function with unflinching accuracy which would put even the greatest of the great mathematician and scientist to shame. The Lord has created and controls such a wonderful universe. Would such an Omnipotent Being('sarvashakta'/'sarvajnya') make a trifling mistake in granting your wish?

    Never!

    The reason He did not fulfill it in your case is because your shortsight prevents you from sensing misery if this prayer were granted.

    Krishna is always your best friend and well-wisher. He looks beyond and makes sure that only the best of the best and the most benign is granted to you."

    The mundane disciple asked,

    "When everything is predetermined and happens according to Karma, then why should we pray to God? Are prayers any useful at all?"

     

    The Master said, "We have hospitals. We have medicines to cure almost all diseases. Yet people fall ill. Infact, we see people dying in hospitals and because of diseases that have medicinal cures.

    Is it right to conclude that the hospitals and medicines are useless and abandon them completely? What would happen then? The situations will get only worse.

     

     

    Prayers are POWERFUL.

    Prayers are of course POWERFUL.

     

    Infact Prayers with Mahamantra are extraordinarily powerful.

    i had read this upanishad erse extract into a book which explains it, just as that, is called,.. sri harinama maha mantra, or something like that?.. is whose is one of six goswamis depicted inthe flop tp from the book.. it is there explained, and why thus Brahma quote it that way, to get it corrected another way, this implyes that to narada muni it is given as is given to us.

    Upanishads are held sacred and are regarded as the highest form of Jnana.

    The shastras say that the Vedas and Upanishads can be learnt and chanted only by a specific sect of people, because of the rigorous tone and intonnation involved in these.

     

    Mahaprabhu, agreat mahan that he was, did want to liberate the masses from this ocean of samsara through the Mahamantra, and at the same time not violate the Shastras. Hence he preached it as

     

    Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare

    Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

     

    When repeated continuously, this indeed reads the same way as stated by the Upanishads.

    Did not Valmiki chant the Holy Taraka Mantra as 'mara' 'mara' and was able to give to the world the great Itihasa called Ramayana?

     

    Sri Prabhupada and his movement followed Mahaprabhu's footsteps.

     

    There are other Saints and Mahans, like Swami Abhedananda of Tiruvananthapuram and innumerable saints of Brindavan who have, out of their sheer mercy and compassion given the Mahamantra as is from the Upanishads, as in this Kali Yuga where none of the rules laid out in the Shastras can be practically followed in spirit.

     

     

    Though powerful by itself, the Mahamantra, if initiated by a Guru, creates multifold effect and helps us reach our ultimate destination quicker.

    Sri Muralidhara Swamiji says:

     

    "We speak of the Sanskrit language. If someone leads an undisciplined, life we say that he does not possess good ‘Samskaras’. 'Samskara' means cleansing. Sanskrit is thus a language that is pure; it needs no cleansing."

     

     

    Does anyone know Max Muller's views on Sanskrit? Basically I am interested in the Westerners views on this language.

    "One fine evening in Mathurapuri Ãshram, Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji had decorated Mãdhuri Sakhi and Sri Premika varadhan in a swing with fragrant flowers and was pleasantly singing kirtans. Sri Sri Swamiji elucidated his experience as below.

    "It was a day in Brindãvan. Peacocks were dancing amidst varieties of trees like 'Punnai' (a tree special for Lord Vishnu.), 'Champak' (an ornamental tree native to India). Cuckoos were singing. Krishna came there alone. Entwining the creepers and tying them to the branches of the tree, he made a beautiful swing. Sitting comfortably on it, he started playing on the flute. On hearing the melodious notes from his flute, his eight mates ('ashtasakhis') came in search him. On their way, they had a conflict about who was the dearest to Krishna. They all said, "Once we reach Krishna's place, we will ask Krishna to kiss us. Whoever is kissed by him first is his dearest. The person who is kissed next, is next favorite to him and so on. Deciding so, they came to an amicable understanding.

    The sakhis somehow reached Krishna's place. After reaching there, they said, "Oh! My legs are paining; Hands are aching." Krishna glanced at them with pity and asked, "Shall I massage your legs?"

    They all replied, "That is not necessary Krishna! If you kiss us once, all our exhaustion would disappear." Krishna said, "So be it. But how can we decide who is to be kissed first?" Immediately he said," I have found a way. We will act accordingly." When they keenly enquired, he said, "As I keep playing on the flute, you all shall go round the swing. I shall suddenly stop playing. Whoever sits first on the swing would be kissed first. Whoever sits next would be kissed next and this shall continue!" On finding their plan foiled by Krishna, they all stood in disappointment. Finally, with four sakhis sitting on one side of the Lord and the other four sakhis on the other, they swung in joy."

    Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are considered the trinity in the Sanathana Dharma on a very broad basis. Few dispute this fact.

     

    Creation, Preservation and Destruction they say is their jobs respectively.

     

    Is there some scientific proof?

     

    Why have Saraswathi, Lakshmi and Shakti as their consorts? What is the significance, if there is one?

    It seems it need not necessarily mean Krishna and Rama respectively.

    The Kali Santarana Upanishad has prescribed this Mantra and Maha prabhu and all other great mahans have followed it.

     

    It is the uchchishta ('remnants from some great person's food plate) of a Million Mahans and Avatara Purushas.

     

    That one reason alone is enough to chant the Maha Mantra and attain whatever we want.

    It has been said in the 4th Kaanda of Krishna Yajur Veda, 'Chandramasi Krishnam' - That objects on moon are black. Recently when man landed on the moon and collected samples from moon's surface, we find that they are dark in color! This can be seen to this day, in some planetariums which have samples from surface of the moon.
