Wrong. Ramadan is Rama & Danava. Rama and Danava were enemies. Followers of Danava who were killed by Rama (Siva) became alive again after Danava placed them in a well which brings the dead back to life. When Muslims fast on Ramadan it`s to remind them of how Rama and Danava fought a war that one thought would never end. Until Lord Visnu in the form of a cow appeared and drank all what was inside the well Danava built.

nice, and actually it took vishnu a month to digest it all, because he has a lactase that actually takes around a month to digest the milk, and it only works at night, and stops working at sunrise , this is why the muslims only eat food before sunrise and after sunset to remember and commemorate this fact and we can go on and on ;)

  2. You will be back trust me, I love this forum, try checking out other religious forums and you will see how religion molds thinking especially abrahamic religions and vaishnavism as well as shaivism and even advaitism, it changes ones perspective in such a way that it is quite interesting to almost see the mode of nonthinking that it promotes.

Anyway, you will be back . I am still lingering after I decided to not post and after a while here i am.

In the past few posts I questioned hindustani's suggestion that we should drop trying to understand higher concepts and just concentrate on being good human beings.

The heart of my objection is contained within the idea of being good before seeking God. This contains the inherent idea that one has to qualify himself in some way before he can approach the Lord. I vehemently reject this idea.

We can never become good enough on our own merit to chant the names of God. To think so would be very arrogant on our part.

I object, you better be good before you turn to God, because if you are not good, then the ignorance (tamasic mode) will not enable you to understand the teaching and you come to a muddy understanding that ends up blowing us all up over God's green earth, just look at 9/11 it has fundamentalist thinking written all over it :deal: .

So I object to your objection.

    Its funny to read,

Does personal God look like Indian?, Is there a Hindu personal God, Christian God etc etc.,

If He takes form in India, He looks Indian, if He takes form in Israel, then He looks middle eastern, If He ever takes form in United states, then He might appear any color, may be hispanic, or african american, or white or Indian or mediteranean or chinese.

If you see the idols of Buddha made in China, Budda looks like chinese, while he was actually born in the Indian sub continent part..

If you see pictures of Krishna painted by Hare Krishna, Krishna has blue eyes, while in reality He was different.

This is hard to explain, and the only explanation I can think of is, STOP speculating and contemplating..

thats why its ok even to worship the flying spagheti monster, as long as it helps you become a good decent human being who doesn't judge others but treats others with equality and respect. Love and compassion. Kind of like remaining in the muddy water, but having the heart of a lotus, so on and so forth.

  5.

That’s no problem. It’s a bit of a shame though, because I think my latest analogy nicely illustrates the proposition in post #14, on the basis of which you accused me of impersonalism! I assume that you agree then, that this is not impersonalism:

    Agreed! :)

To prevent the disease of impersonalism from spreading, please don't forget to add "a part of the" in front of any and all words that refer to a "supreme divine concept or entity". As an example, instead of saying "God is seen everywhere", say " a part of the God is seen everywhere" , instead of saying "All is divine", say "All is a part of the Divine". Thank you.

and about that Ramadan being Rama and Dan, I was kidding...I don't know how you can find that helpful or useful, but if it gives a sense of bhakti and tolerance and understanding, i am glad.

  6.

An implicit part of respecting the Supreme Lord is respecting His empowered servants. They may be "little nature spirit gods" to you, but they can certainly ruin your day if they chose. And the Lord does not like it when His devotees are disrespected...

So I have to fear these little gods now? why? because they can ruin my day? lol.

Note to self, be careful around the next tree you walk by, who knows? there might be an angry tree god who is having a bad day! :ponder:

    Says who? :eek4:

Says me, yes just go back to my post earlier and read it again and look at it closely, I just took the sonic yogi's argument and wrote "Abrahamic religion" where he wrote Hinduism and switched the word hinduism with whereever he wrote abrahamic religion.

You can see how his argument is quite meaningless, just like my argument and you can turn it either way.

  8.

I used to think that the name God was impersonal until I realized it was Govinda`s name shortened for God. So, everytime I hear the name God I know it`s Govinda`s name they are referring to.:)

yeah, and here are a few other things that might be useful for you...

you know Ramadan? why its holy for muslims? it comes from Rama & Dan, Rama is lord Rama and Dan means (if i remember this correctly) Donation. Lord Rama Donation, they are giving their devotion to allah and donating it to Rama who is none other than that Allah.

  9.

This Abrahamic monotheism is, in my opinion, much less authentic and spiritual genuine that the polytheism of the Hindus.

Abrahamic monotheism is as authentic and spiritually genuine as the polytheism of hindus.

The Hindus see fire as the body of the fire god and they respect it.

Hindus see air as the body of the wind god and so they respect it.

Hindus see Earth as the body of Bhumi Devi, so they respect it.

The abrahamic monotheism sees fire as the creation of God and they respect it.

Abrahamic monotheism sees air as the creation of God and they respect it.

Abrahamic monotheism sees earth as the creation of God and they respect it.

These Abrahamic religions don't have the proper respect for the elements or mother Earth, because they are "monotheistic" and only recognize their god as worth of worship.

looking at the stuff I wrote above your quote here , you can conclude that : Abrahamic religions have the proper respect for the elements or mother earth because they are "monotheistic" and only recognize their God as worth of worship.

Abrahamic monotheism is farce monotheism, because you cannot serve God whilst being disrespectful to the gods, the elements, other faiths and mother Earth.

Abrahamic religion is not monotheism, it is just monotonous.

Abrahamic monotheism is farce monotheism, because you can serve God by surrendering to that one true God and his messiah (their form of your idea of guru) , whilst being respectful to God's creations.

  10. Hi ,

maybe it is the tough economic times or maybe it is my own fearfulness or maybe my financial status right about now, but I am in a deep ditch, which I wasn't when I wasn't atheist lets say. I was happy atleast, now all I have is depression and anxiety. Fear has taken complete hold of me, everyday as I see myself go into more and more debt, all I can find comfort in is this book bhagavad gita, and prabhupada's words, ironically. The same words that I actually forbid myself from reading, those same ideas of surrender, which were once given up by me, I made my self believe that there is no God, then how can these words give me this type of comfort, I am still convinced that if there is God, he would be more visible. Anyway, atheism truly makes one miserable, maybe there is a better way.

You may not remember me, but anyway sorry for any offense I had created earlier as an atheistic moron.

  11.

The really amazing thing is why an admitted atheist like Redsox is so involved in a conversation about God. You are one that is out of place.

This conversation is about God? Or is it about who is right? LOL I love making fun of the ignorance that is so prevailing everywhere ;) . Besides , old habits die hard. Don't worry theist, I will leave in a week or two.

  12. Its ok, for me krishna was too restrictive, thats why I came to this material world right? great.

I am going to stay here if you will excuse me, I am going to enjoy my new found freedom by helping sick people who need healing. I don't need God to do this.

Ofcourse, this doesn't mean you shouldn't follow your way to krishna, go ahead, I will see you all after a few million lifetimes.

ok? peace and love to you all, and may you find your way back to where ever you think you are going .

  13.

You make some good points and I can appreciate you expressing your honest emotions about everything. I personally don't know anything for absolute sure because whenever I do the universe seems to bi*** slap me right upside the head. All that being said for some reason I have always had an inherent faith in God. I hope it is not irrational, I guess someday I might actually find out. From a Krsna Consciousness perspective I have an offensive mentality because I often find myself praying for the Kalki-avatar to appear even though I know you are not supposed to do that.

lol if kalki does appear, he will start waving his sword at the religious fundamentalists first. LOL

  14.

    C) Get yourself to a temple feast [this friday is Gaura-Purnima] and eat as much maha-prasadam as can be begged, borrowed, stolen, in exchange for some donation, and or asked for: Then you'll be satiated without doubt. [tip #1: honor the prasadam at a very-very-very slow pace, do not rush] [tip #2: take home as much left over prasadam as possible and repeat the above at home at a very-very-very slow pace].

I doubt that will change anything, but the decorations seem nice in hare krishna temples, I will visit and see if that changes anything.

  15.

Ok now is the time for explaining.

When Draupadi was going to be stripped of her clothing by Dushasana she cried out to Krishna but He did not come right away. Why?

She was not totally dependent on Him.

lol this is funny. on one hand, not even a blade of grass bends without krishna's approval, so everyone is dependent on krishna. On the other hand, you have to "surrender" give up control, when in the first place, the control itself is not yours to give. Ha!

Let me ask you this, today, a woman is raped in the world every 2 mins, where is krishna? is he waiting for them to give up control?

Do you think if everyone in the world stops their respective work (whatever he/she does) , goes to a temple and starts praying 24/7 and surrenders to krishna this way, they will get food instantaneously out of the sky? maybe its difficult for the whole world, but what about one person then? Will he get his food on the table if he quits his job and goes on to realize the ultimate truth that is krishna? I don't think so. In fact, he will starve to death, even when he claims that krishna is the "abundant reservoir" like prabhupada might claim.

No offense to prabhupada though, he is a nice old man, I respect him , he tried to get people to stop using drugs and stop killing animals.

  16. Ofcourse you know what happens at death, the body becomes useless , there is no life in it. I don't need to know anything more.

It is not me bluffing, its the religion that is bluffing...

No matter how much I may try to convince myself. I cannot believe in all these stories. Example: one of the stories I have a hard time believing is the whole moon story and how moon got to be on shiva's head: ready? here goes:

moon planet supposedly was married to 27 stars, but he only likes rohini and because of that Daksha (father of these 27 stars) gave him a curse to lose his splendor and then he ran to back to Shiva for help, and Vishnu saved him by spliting the moon god into two bodies, one body where he kept his splendor and another body where he had the danger of becoming ugly... but shiva gave him a boon that as long as he is on his head, he won't lose his splendor, and this is why he is on Shiva's head (get a picture of shiva, you will see the moon on his head).

There are plenty of stories like that and they just seem like myths even in bhagavatam, and this leads people to claim that there is only one sun in the universe or that moon is farther than the sun. These things are based on speculation, so if the people who narrated bhagavatam are wrong about things like these, what should convince me that they are right when they claim God is Krishna who has two hands, or that God is brahman, or that God is shiva or that God exists at all?

Another thing that leads me to conclude that this is all not in accordance to reality is the apparent contradictions. According to shaivites Shiva and shakti create Vishnu, who creates brahma and he creates this world.

According to Vaishnavites, the whole world is created and permeated by Vishnu,

According to Jnanis, there was never a creation at all, this is all an incredible illusion like a dream, and we are all dream objects in the mind of Brahman.

According to Shakti Worshippers, The devi Ma, is the real truth, all else is false.

    Then you have other religions,

Christianity suggests all of this is wrong, what hindus worship are demons and say that God will send them to hell, and even suggests that God is jealous and will punish you when you don't worship him.

On the other hand , there is Islam, that suggests that Allah is to be feared and all infidels in the camp of the non believers (by that they mean any nonmuslim) are going to be tortured forever and destroyed, unless they are converted back.

Who is right? they all claim to be right in their own way, and they all suggest the other one is wrong, and they all have some crazy story pertaining to how this entire universe came about and what one needs to do to please that all powerful God. Then there are those who get so involved in all these stories that they start hating the other religion while being biased to their own.

No religious person can ever stop hurricanes, but they try to justify them. Some people like pat robertson even suggest that hurricanes in certain regions happen because God was angry at them and wanted to punish them. For instance, he claimed the T-sunami hit India and indonesia because they were worshipping demons, they weren't worshipping God.

See how ridiculous all these people sound? How can you even claim that God exists when you look at all this. It seems that God is nothing more than an imaginary figure used to control the masses and put them in line through subjugation. Sometimes God is used to keep age old traditions alive... like the sandya vandanam that brahmins carry out.

  17.

TOO MANY COOKS SPOIL THE SOUP.

To me, this means: "Jaya Prabhupada"! "Jaya Bhaktisiddhanta"! "Jaya Gaurakisora"! "Jaya Bhaktivinoda"! "Jaya Jagannatha"! "Jaya Nityananda"! "Jaya Gauranga"! "Jaya Madhavendra"! "Jaya Madhva"! "Jaya Vyasa"! "Jaya Narada"! "Jaya Sri Brahma"! "Hari Hari Jai Sri Krsna"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I respect that, I hope you all find what you need to in your life.

  18.

And that is a subjective opinion. But what if it's true? You're approaching it from the angle "what if it's not true?"

One doesn't need to wait til the next life to find out if this process works. Ultimately, as Sriman George Harrison said, "The proof is in the pudding." There must be some taste, otherwise we will eventually give it up. Or some deep impressions of having experienced that taste in the past. Have you never experienced any joy from engaging in any of the 9 limbs of Bhakti Yoga, beginning with hearing, chanting, and remembering?

Ok there were some good moments in sadhana, I felt at peace many times, but as all mind trips have a beginning and an ending so did those phases.

  19.

TOO MANY COOKS SPOIL THE SOUP.

    mban649l.jpg

Let me tell you what that means to me because I don't understand your point entirely. Too many people try to define God that they miss the point entirely that god is a myth- They spoil the soup.

    Or

Too many peple try to seek God in order to taste that higher essence of an already existing God, but God on the other hand is so cruel and horrible, He just doesn't care for the petty existence of beings on this pathetic planet, hence he spoils the soup himself.

  20. Yah you are probably right thehat, I will act with a bit more decency in the future and refrain from such emotionally charged rants.

With that said, I will agree that I don't understand the scripture with its apparent contradictions, but I will also point out that you don't understand it any more than I do. Neither does anyone who comes to this forum, even that ghari character over there doesn't understand it any better... and I will tell you what, when you do understand it better, feel free to declare it to the world and I will gladly follow back in your footsteps to krishna. Until then, keep trying to attain that God, lol , you will get pissed off from the lack of reciprocation from your beloved God soon enough lol , but don't take my word for it.

If you want a justification from me as to why I posted this rant here, as if there was some devious reason behind it, well I am sorry to say that there isn't any. I posted what I felt like, it was a spontaneous action, I even said that was my last post and i am posting again and again, it just shows that my state of mind was different when I posted my first post as it is different now. this is merely a discussion.
