  1. Raw or organic or not they still sell the male calves to be slaughtered for veal and slaughter the milk givers when they stop producing.
  2. Why do you think this? I think temples should set the best examples for the community. Especially from a group that preaches about cow protection as a prime necessity for humankind. First protect the cows in all respects then preach about it. "Example is better than precept."
  3. Yes who knows. God consciousness is not mechanical, it is personal.
  4. Not really Melvin. You launched the boat. But let's talk more about the Holy names and especially their non sectarian-nature.
  5. Well in one case the prostitute actually acted as a siksa guru. People of different religions are discovering different aspects of God. In the case of Jesus Christ do you think he revealed his inner life to the Hebrews? We don't know his most intimate relationship with Krishna. he could be an eternal cowherd boy for all we know. Do we know the inner life of Haridas Thakur? Is he naughty? We are meant to follow their examples and teachings. Chant the Holy names constantly and sacrifice yourself to fulfill the will of God.
  6. This was a thread started on the nature of the Holy Names. Please let's get back on track. We can have a different thread on religious intolerance.
  7. Yeah Amlesh it is. I need to somehow tattoo that over my mouth.
  8. The Harinama Cintamani can be found at this list. Sri Harinama Cintamani Brought to us by The Bhaktivedanta memorial Library http://bvml.org/ which is a vast treasure house of Vaisnava writings.
  9. Sant, I really have no idea.
  10. Yes but animal slaughter is easy to understand Amlesh isn't it. It is demonic. All milk cows are sent to be slaughtered when their milk production falls below a certain level. The male calves are sent immediately to be slaughtered for veal by the dairy farmers because the males will never produce milk. These demons should be shot and not supported and thus encouraged to continue by devotees giving them Krishna's money.
  11. Ajamila did not go back to Godhead on the strength of chanting Narayana indicating his son. His mind was absorbed in thinking of his son and in great anxiety due to impending death he chanted the name Narayana, but still calling out to his son. This was namabhasa. Not pure chanting of the holy names but neither was it offensive in anyway (see ten offenses to the Holy names). See also Harinama Cintamani by Bhaktivinode Thakur to learn more about namabhasa. There is bound to be an on-line copy someplace. Ajamila after being recued from the servants of Yamaraja did not go straight back to Godhead. He went to Hardwar and entered a temple dedicated to the Supreme Lord, practiced devotional service, became purified and then was taken back to Godhead. Lord Caitanya prayed that the Lord has hundreds and millions of names and that all of them are invested with transcendental potency. And that there are no hard and fast rules for chanting these names. People are always trying to make Krishna into a legalistic theology of some kind when in fact Krishna is the Supremely Merciful Personality of Godhead. He is not sitting somewhere thinking, "I must reject this person's prayers because although sincere he doesn't know sanskrit." We must resist the tendency to try and impose our fanaticism onto Him through mental projection, that is, the mind assumes it's own small and narrow ideas must also be held by the Lord.
  12. I've been specific. Learn to read or quit trying to write. You are being nothing more than a pest.
  13. Yes. My little acme juicer is one of my few valued possessions. I just use carrot as a base for just about every combination. Carrot celery, carrot and a little beet, Carrot juice and then place in a blender and add peanut butter and blend. Carrot juice and nutritional yeast. You can get creative with tastes adding things like ginger root to apple juice. Got a cold or flu then juice some lemons and ginger root add some cayenne powder and you have what we used to call brahmastra juice. Drink a small glass straight down (don't sip) and the toxins get blasted out of you in no time. The list is endless. Probably my favorite is fresh ripe pineapple juice but I have to watch the sugar intake these days.
  14. Not new to the list of mundane religions. Animal sacrificing cults have always been at the top of my list. You don't consider slaughtering innocent animals and offering their blood to God as an attempt to cleanse the soul mundane? Actually considering the meaning of the word mundane I thought I was being charitable. Barbaric is more to the truth. Main Entry:mun·dane Pronunciation: \ˌmən-ˈdān, ˈmən-ˌ\ Function:adjective Etymology:Middle English mondeyne, from Anglo-French mundain, from Late Latin mundanus, from Latin mundus worldDate:15th century 1 : of, relating to, or characteristic of the world 2 : characterized by the practical, transitory, and ordinary : commonplace ....e mundane concerns of day-to-day life> synonyms see earthly
  15. Oh I have understood this little thing for quite sometime primate. So since you agree there is a Supreme Being that is Personal behind both the cosmic manifestation and the brahman effulgence you should present yourself as a theist and help others into the theistic conception. You are very intelligent and articulate so take it as your duty and do some karma/bhakti yoga for Krishna. This will make Krishna very happy with you.
  16. I am not a member of Iskcon nor am I a spokesman for them. I suggest you redirect your question to them.
  17. Primate to say I somewhat understand the math example is being generous to me. Thanks . Actually I took my cue from the conclusion you offered,.That somehow I understood. Yes this is a popular concept that is gaining acceptance in the scientific world through such books as the Tao of physics which I tried to read but gave up on) and such books. It is good in one sense that some scientists are seeing beyond the gross material veil and that is nice when compared to being stuck in the old strictly mechanistic view of existence. But it is not a necessary step that the scientists must. They can still remain in the scientific discipline and immediately understand that there is a Personality behind it all.
  18. Various religious books are given for various peoples to draw them closer to God. The Bible is for those people we call jews. Jesus's teaching were to help rqise them out of their rather mundane religion. They were little more than an animal sacrificing cult with some other barbaric pratices like stoning women for adultery. Jesus refused to sanction the stoning ritual by telling the religious mob that the one among them without sin could cast the first stone. Jesus Christ put mercy above law. He also directly challenged the practice of animal sacrifice by overturning the tables of those at the temple that were selling birds and goats to be sacrificed to God for the cleansing of their own personal sins. That led to his crucifixion a few days later. So not that Srila Prabhupada sactioned the whole Bible as scripture but if one takes the essence of the Bible which are the teachings of CXhrist then that part is eternal scripture. vedic texts are vast in number. Some are more to the point spiritually and those should be concentrated on. The point being Bhakti to the ONE Supreme Lord. Therefore why would expect a vaisnava to recommend something from the karma-khanda section? It is not so much rejection as it is full acceptance of something higher. Krishna Himself tells us in the Gita not to be distracted by the flowery words of the vedas.
  19. Hare Krishna, Since the early 70's. First for health reasons as I can't digest milk products and then later I learned how the cows were mistreated. But I should add that I would fall prey to a youghurt craving a couple times a year. Then in the mid eighties I dropped even that. One more twist is maha-prasadam from the Deities plate. Last night a friend who was doing the arati at the local Iskcon templ e brought me a garland and a couple of simple wonderfuls. The sweetballs went straight down the hatch. I will always honor maha-prasad. That means only taking a little but with gratetude. I am also diabetic and shouldn't have sugar but to refuse a little maha-prasada especially offered to me with love by a friend would be too offensive for even me so I ate them with relish. Yumm. I do wish devotees would boycott milk from unprotected cows. there is so much cruelty in the dairy industry which is a kissing cousin to the meat industry. How about you?
  20. Yes. Christ or Yahweh or Allah under the principle of namabhasa. The it comes up what you might mean by hell. heaven and hell as the only two options and then for eternity as taught by the Christians is such a ridiculous idea. I hope you are now not going in that direction. If I remember correctly Ajamila did not go directly back to Godhead.
  21. Yes so true! This is a great line Melvin. You could put this on a bumper sticker and make a million bucks. Right there with one I saw recently that said, "Don't believe everything that you think."
  22. I can't follow mathematical examples primate Sorry. However this sounds way off. In fact it is just a scientific approach to impersonalism as I hear it. From the perspective of the impersonal conception of the brahman nothing exists but from the conditioned souls level of perspective everything (the universal manifestation) is seen. From the Vaisnava's perspective this is not nice but another definition of hell. The Vaisnava is specifically concerned with viewing life from the perspective that lies beyond the Brahman, which includes the material manifestation, The brahman and Krishna. Leaving Krishna out of the picture is like leaving the sweetness out of sugar.
  23. The outward appearance of Jesus Christ is not the point. It is irrelevant. It is the sound of the Holy Names that has the spiritual value. An Avatar of the Lord can take on any form to accomplish his mission. Prabhupada taught that just as Christ comes from Kristos, Kritos comes from Krishna. The language does not matter to God. What matters is what your intent is. My neighbor is Mexican and named Jesus. If I call to him while he is standing in his yard do you think Lord Jesus will think I am calling out to him? Or if I am in my heart crying out to God but speak only Chinese do you think the Lord will not understand me and ignore my prayer? These are all external considerations that have no real value except to the sectarianist that think God only hears and answers their prayers. We know who they are, they make up 99.9% of every religion on the Earth. Being a Catholic or Muslim or Hindu or Jew won't save you. Only being a lover of God will save you. " A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet."
  24. You are really confusing me Melvin. It appears that you are changing the meaning of your previous postings when referring back to them. I can't continue with this one bro.
