  1. Jai Sriman Narayana: Found the information on this site http://www.stutimandal.com/gif_misc/sankasht_naashan.htm
  2. Jai Sriman Narayana: Thanks a lot for this information.
  3. Jai Sriman Narayana: All fine. But are you a Kshatriya or Vaishya or Sudra or a Brahmin? If so, by birth or by behaviour? If by birth, what have you done so far? If by behaviour, what should you be doing? Are you doing that *whatever* or are you just waiting for someone (Brahmins!) to come looking for you to teach you what you should be doing (Brahmims are supposed to learn and also teach others right!)?
  4. Jai Sriman Narayana: Its everybodys concern but what I have not seen or even heard from authentic sources is evidence of (1) brahmins raping dalits (2)brahmins asking dalits to walk with breasts etc. You seem to have real evidence so please be kind enough to share those too! Amongs dalits themselves there are various classes and thats where the major problem is (ofcourse genuine brahmins may be involved in stray cases). Ofcourse to solve that there needs to be a unified strategy. The beginning of this is to first practise Sanatana Dharma as an individual and not indulging in spreading propaganda without sufficient evidence or in-depth analysis.
  5. Jai Sriman Narayana: Does anyone know about Sankashtanaashanam Vishnu Stotram. I know the stotram byheart but dont know who composed it? when? why? etc.
  6. Jai Sriman Narayana: In my opinion, Dalit or non-Dalit doesnt make a difference as far as dharma is concerned. There is a Dharma for all and that should be followed. BTW, what is your definition of Dalit?
  7. Jai Sriman Narayana: I have known the following categorization of the Puranas and have been told that these were categorized by Sri. Vyasa... any idea where? Can someone help me with the verses mentioning these categorization? Satvic Puranas: Vishnu, Narada, Srimad Bhagavatam, Varaha, Padma, Garuda Rajasic Puranas: bramhanda, bramhakaivarta, maarkandeya, bhaviyat, vamana, braamha Tamasic Puranas: maatsya, tamram, linga, saiva, skaanda, agni
  8. Jai Sriman Narayana: In some news papers or articles whenever there is some news about a dalit being illtreated by upper castes, the people will generally tend to assume upper castes = brahmins while this is not the case. There are various classes among the so-called lower classes and this is what is not properly understood. This type of caste system is what is getting undue popularity/condemnation from everyone. I am not sure if Brahmins are really to be blamed for everything related to so-called upper caste problems. So, yes, I agree, the entire society has to understand and change. I am still thinking this change has to somehow start from Brahmins. Simple things like renouncing TV, outside food, cheap entertainment etc can start from Brahmins. They need to spend time in learning / teaching etc and yet show happiness. This will arouse curiosity among others who will automatically come over and try to ask questions and pave the way for further learning for all including Brahmins.
  9. Jai Sriman Narayana: Seems like you are assuming that to exhaust one type of Karma you have to do an equal and opposite karma. This need not be the case always. Plants do no accumulate new Karma - both good and bad. Their previous Karma entitled that to JUST EXHAUST some specific type of Karma they should just be born / grow / die as plants... they dont need to do some new Karma to exhaust these. For some bad Karma to drop, we have do some good Karma. So, being born as a plant with no Vak (speech, communciation) and Manas (Mind, ego) itself provides enough room for the bad Karma to drop off by itself without doing any equal opposite good karma. Now coming to evolution, at the end of plant life since plants have exhausted some specific bad Karma, they have indeed evolved to be born again as a different species (may be human, animal etc). I started another thread titled "Vak, Manas and Prana". Please read that for more information.
  10. Jai Sriman Narayana: Thanks! So animals use various languages that are not comparable to the ones we humans speak or may be even in fact the way of speaking may be something different also. Can you recommend any literature (books, websites etc) on this topic?
  11. Jai Sriman Narayana: Vak (Speech, communication), Manas (Mind, ego), Prana (Breath, life) Humans have Vak, Manas, Prana - has life, experiences pain, can speak Animals have Manas, Prana but no Vak - have life, experiences pain, cannot speak Plants (and fruits, seeds, flowers, roots etc) have Prana but no Vak and Manas - have life, cannot speak, cannot experience pain Other items - No Manas, No Vak, No Prana Generally, anything that has Prana must not be killed and eaten. However, there are specific Vedic rules to be followed in order to kill and eat in certain circumstances. Any comments? Anything wrong above? Please clarify.
  12. Jai Sriman Narayana: Plants dont acquire new Karma.. they just exhaust some specific past ones after which the soul (in the plant) may be re-born as a human or animal or some other species or even get liberated based on the remaining Karma.
  13. Jai Sriman Narayana: I had been to Udaipur Palace, Rajastan last year. In the palace we found a painiting in which a temple resembling Taj Mahal was also represented. The tour guide said that it was indeed the initial architect's representation of Tejo Mahalay.
  14. Jai Sriman Narayana: No, but atleast lets not say the scriptures are not scientific or scriptures are mythology or scriptures are wronng unless until science has finished its job. Let science do its job... science by itself is very good. Let scientists do their job but refrain from propounding theories as facts.. statements "May be, It seems, I believe" are not conclusive and indicates there is more to do. So, at that point why go and say something that they dont know about fully is wrong. Instead, Scientists must take statements from Vedas and continue their job to verify if its true or not.. then they will know, surely. There is a saying "Religion starts where science stops".
  15. Jai Sriman Narayana: Not a long time ago, one Pilot incidentally found a new continent that was later called Antartica. This was a discovery but doesnt mean that this continent did not exist before. Prior to this science/geography only knew 6 continents.. yet the vedas always said there are 7. Columbus discovered America and he says it was pretty much civilized as well. This doesnt mean America did not exist before Columbus discovered. Both Columbus and the pilot got Noble prizes for discovering.... they cant give noble prize to God you see! Now, has science discovered everything possible... has it concluded anything. Scientists continue to do scientific research which is good but how come they keep concluding now and then... is'nt this contradictory? A conclusion cant mean there is more to research, right? So, we need to wait for Science (till eternity?) to give a FINAL conclusive complete answer and only then compare the results with what is stated in the scriptures. We cant take half of science and half of scriptures, compare and conclude anything.
  16. Jai Sriman Narayana: What if someone who talked Srimad Bhagavatam a long time ago foresaw the happenings (remember, Vyasa could foresee) so he compiled the Bhagavatam with the various questions and answers that will be specifically asked in future. Bhagavatam had many future events that had not happened at that time.. so foreseeing may be true.
  17. Jai Sriman Narayana: Try this book... its out of print but still see a few copies at amazon.com. Title: God, Rebirth and the Vedas ISBN : 8122405061 Dewey : 294.5/2 20 LCCN : BL1213.32 .P37 1993
  18. Jai Sriman Narayana: Although I have heard this many times and still keep hearing about it I havent really seen or even known of any real illtreatments of non-brahmins to be specific. In fact I have'nt even really seen Brahmins causing a big disturbance in society except that the majority of them dont lead much of a Brahminical life now-a-days and this is used as an excuse by so-called lower castes to genaralize the situation.... more of following a British tactic to destroy our culture rather than some internal problem...Instead I have seen the upper class Sudras (remember they have their own classes within) causing problems to the lower class Sudras and this is being termed as upper class illtreatment and by default this points towards Brahmins. I do know some Brahmins indulge in politics, regular money-making business though which ofcourse needs to change for the better if we have get our orignal varna system back. What I have seen is however (1) Orthodox Brahmins preventing others from entering the main sanctum of temples unless they have undergone the required ritualistic ceremonies. Now, what is wrong in this? If everyone can do everything then you sure need to make some rules to control abuse or use the rules already stated in the vedas. (2) Orthodox Brahmins not eating food prepared by other castes. What is wrong in this? The specific mantras and the mindset when cooking food maintains sanctity of the food and this is essential for leading a Brahminical life.. although most Brahmins dont follow this. yet ofcourse Brahmins eat in restaurants, how wierd this is! I will be looking forward to know too from others in the forum if they have some real information.
  19. Jai Sriman Narayana: I have done some research/analysis on this based on lectures from Aacharyas and some letters from Max Mueller to his wife at his time - available in British Museum. The letters speak accurately enough of what the British asked him to do but in his personal letter to his wife he appreciates the Vedic Varna system. Even after muslim invasions (which were mostly through violence) there was no so-called caste discrimination between various varnas... all were expected to do their jobs and all was well. Thats one strong reason why conversions did not succeed too much unlike other countries. Now when the Britishers came they made some sort of strategy to disturb the varna system (apart from being too violent unlike the muslims). They closed gurukulas but made brahmins study in British universities - since Brahmins were primarily non-violent with not much protection they had to succumb. Now, this ensured that there is no one to teach the people. Then the British inducted Kshatriyas into army and gave them some presents etc but ensured that they dont mingle much with Brahmanas. Similarly they handled the Vaishyas and ensured that they dont mingle much with Brahmanas. The Sudras were mostly CASTIGATED based on wrong interpretations of Vedas prepared by Max Mueller. With no Brahmins to teach the Sudras believed all this and made way for conversions. The caste system that we see today is this version and not the original one. Now, inspite of all the above at that time people had some basic good qualities so things still seemed to continue normally for the people in general. The Britishers now resorted to create problems for people like problems for food, water etc but due to the concept of Daana it was diffcult for the British to break the unity of the society. Then one Governor General (dont remember his name!) banned Daana. The society then became more or less dependent on British. Now, illtreatment by the Brahmins. (1) They (Brahmins) knew the situation fully so wanted people to continue their usual activities according to the Varna while they themselves were studying in universities (were helpless like the others!). Obviously, the Sudras were already fully brainwashed and they had already concluded that BRAHMINS ARE BAD. Ofcourse there were genuine cases where brahmins were bad but these were only exceptions.. although British/politicians hyped about it. Now, we only want the original Varna system back.
  20. Jai Sriman Narayana: Get hold of the following book at amazon.com Title: God, Rebirth and the Vedas ISBN : 8122405061 Dewey : 294.5/2 20 LCCN : BL1213.32 .P37 1993 This gives scientifically acceptable explanations that are truly convincing.
  21. Jai Sriman Narayana: There is only one God in hinduism and he is supreme. The other Gods that you hear about are demi-gods or devatas. The devatas do drink soma ras. I believe it is some sort of superior wine. Supreme GOD doesnt need Soma Ras as he doesnt get affected by it, he doesnt need that for enjoyment, he doesnt need that for anything.
  22. Jai Sriman Narayana: In hinduism there is only ONE God and he is supreme. The Gods that you usually hear people talking about are demi-gods who again serve the ONE SUPREME GOD by doing their assigned tasks. God is Satya (unchanging, truth), Gnana (Knowledge, no ignorance, no dependency on anyone/anything), Ananta (All pervading, inside everything, outside everthing), Ananda (Bliss, does not get bored, always happy) swaroopa (identity, form). His form is indeed transcedental that is incomprehensible through material senses. Ofcourse, you can see supreme God in any form that you feel comfortable because the Gnana (knowledge) and Bhakti (Devotion) behind that is more important. Religion is practised by following Karma, Gnana and Bhakti yoga which ultimately leads to God realization.
  23. Jai Sriman Narayana: Thanks! I see you have again referred to various people to have heard, seen miracles etc etc etc and this is the basis to believe Bible is word of God. Would you accept the same arguments (and even much much stronger ones) to accept Vedas, Bhagavad Gita etc as word of God? The reason I ask this question is because even Islam and other religions can provide such arguments to why they are autoritative.
  24. Jai Sriman Narayana: All fine, you say the bible says so, no doubt. The bigger question is... Can you prove that the bible is authentic? Did Christ write the bible? Can you prove that this was the word of God? Think about answers to the above with a clean and unprejudiced mind(forgetting propaganda).
