Is it necessary to find a guru to start saying this mantra? How many times should it be said and for how long?

From my understanding this is the correct mantra: !!Om Hleem Baglamukhi Sarwdushtanam Wacham Mukham Padam; Stambhay Jihwa Kilay Buddhi Vinashay Hleem Om swaha!!

Has it backfired on anyone? How much precaution should we take when we do this?

Dear Friends,

Someone is ill-wishing my parents and trying to cause harm upon them. I am someone who has recently been experiencing the benefits of meditation. I was hoping someone could provide some type of solution that I can do to protect my parents, a mantra perhaps? I was thinking about Maa Baglamukhi mantra but I know it is powerful and I am afraid to perform it incorrectly. Do I have to find a guru to do this?

I was also thinking about performing a sadhana of some sort to protect them? Would this require a guru?
