Yes, a "Concordance" -- fancy word for 'Index' of all subjects, words etc. The Bible Concordance is a famous research tool, but it is a book.

The folio of Srila Prabhupada's that I use is so limited when searching 'related words & topics'. It should be more like the search engines of Google etc., it should be like a Thesuarus of Prabhupadas books. Something like the 'Puranic Encyclopedia' but as a eletronic medium.

    con·cord·ance –noun

    <table class="luna-Ent" minmax_bound="true"><tbody minmax_bound="true"><tr minmax_bound="true"><td class="dn" minmax_bound="true" valign="top">1.</td><td minmax_bound="true" valign="top">agreement; concord; harmony: the concordance of the membership. </td></tr></tbody></table><table class="luna-Ent" minmax_bound="true"><tbody minmax_bound="true"><tr minmax_bound="true"><td class="dn" minmax_bound="true" valign="top">2.</td><td minmax_bound="true" valign="top">an alphabetical index of the principal words of a book, as of the Bible, with a reference to the passage in which each occurs. </td></tr></tbody></table><table class="luna-Ent" minmax_bound="true"><tbody minmax_bound="true"><tr minmax_bound="true"><td class="dn" minmax_bound="true" valign="top">3.</td><td minmax_bound="true" valign="top">an alphabetical index of subjects or topics. </td></tr></tbody></table><table class="luna-Ent" minmax_bound="true"><tbody minmax_bound="true"><tr minmax_bound="true"><td class="dn" minmax_bound="true" valign="top"></td><td minmax_bound="true" valign="top"> </td></tr></tbody></table>

Do I get any change for my 2 cents?

    Hari Bol!

    ys,

    Bhaktajan

Thank you. I can make software for this. I will first make for Windows NT or later version. (I hope not many are using 9x now. Let me know if I am wrong.) Later, if I find there is need, then I will make for Linux.

I do not want to put a feature, which is there in an existing application. To give an example, suppose I make a software on BG As It Is to browse through chapers, verses and purports. This will not be useful because www.asitis.com has the same feature, so why do it again?

I want to include a feature, which is useful and not present in existing applications.

Now, let us talk about the charge for your 2 cents. You will get the first copy of the software absolutely for free.;)

  2. Some posts here say that the universe in the past was different from what it is now and the various measurements given in Bhagavatam are of past universe. But I have some problems with this explanation: -

If the measurements are of past universe, then how many years ago?

The talk between Suk Dev and Parikshit happened a few thousand years ago. The universe has changed very little from then till now. But the measurements given in Bhagavatam are very much different from what Science says.

Therefore, one explanation is that we should not take the measurements given in Bhagavatam literally. May be these were not meant to be taken litarally. Another explanation is that we should take the numbers literally but the interpretation should be such that the measurements given in Bhagavatam prove to be unchanging with time.

You might be wondering that the universe is changing with time. Then, how is possible for an interpretation to exist by which the measurements are unchanging? It is possible. Let me give on example: -

Consider a sphere. Suppose that sphere's size remains unchanged. The sphere is moving. There is a 2D surface on which flat-landers live. The sphere touches the surface. Flat landers will see a point. The sphere cuts the surface. Flat landers will see a circle. The sphere goes deeper inside the surface. Flat landers will see a bigger circle. Initially the radius of the circle, as seen by flat landers, will increase. After some time, it will start decreasing.

In the above example, if we take the measurements by flat landers, then we will find that the measurements change with time. But if we take the size of the actual sphere, then we find it unchanging.

We live in 3D space and 1D time world. May be that our world is a projection of some higher dimensional world. The measurements is the higher dimensional world do not change (or they change so little that the change can be ignored to a good approximation) and Bhagavatam contains those measurements.

I am not saying that I believe in such an explanation. I just proposed it as a possible explanation.

  3. Hindi and Sanskrit use Devnagri script. Hindi is my native language; I use it daily. If you pronounce your name the way color gray(or grey) is pronounced, then what I have written is correct. Let me know what results you found from Internet search. Then, I will see why there is difference. But I assure you that what I have written is correct.

  4. I watched the video and liked it lots.

Since you have already started from Abhimanyu's perspective, therefore it is quite natural for you to finish writing that first.

But, I personally find Bhisma's character very interesting.

Satayvati's father put a condition that Shantanu could marry Satyavati only if her son would become king after Shantanu. In all respects, Bhisma was perfect to be a king and people deserved a good king. On one hand, Bhisma had the option of becoming king after Shantanu and thus giving a good king to people. On the other hand, he had the option of accepting Satyavati's father's condition when it was not even known whether future son of Satyavati would be able or not. Bhisma must have been in dilemma.

Bhisma was never attached to luxurious life. Even in his young age, he could have happily lived in some ashram. But, in order to fulfill his

duties towards the throne, he decided to stay in Hatinapur. He fulfilled all duties of a king without actually being a king. He never tried to usurp the kingdom though he could have easily done that.

When he had taken the vow of celibacy, then it must be difficult for him to go to swyambara even though he was looking for wife for Vichitravirya.

In his heart, he knew that Duryodhan was wrong but his vow was forcing him to side with Duryodhan. He must have been in a very big dilemma about right and wrong. On one hand, fulfill one's vow. And on the other hand, oppose adharma. In fact, it must be difficult for him to even decide what was dharma for him.

Bhisma's character shows various battles that people fight with themselves in their own minds.

  5. Sanskrit uses Devanagari script. What you have posted is meaningless as per Devnagari except 08.08.08

I will post what is right, but do not know if Cindy is reading this thread. May be she thinks what you have written is correct and, therefore, will not visit this thread again. I am waiting for her to post something in this thread so that I know she is still reading this thread.

  6. Using Search facility, I read his posts. Yes, he posts very rarely. He joined in Nov 2005 and has made only 8 posts so far.

I must say that he has taken utmost interest in imparting teachings to his daughter and his daughter also has taken these studies very seriously. The kind of knowledge and also the maturity that you have at such an young age is amazing.:)

  7.

I being a girl have seen with my own experience how untrustworthy and unintelligent women are. And I don't doubt that my brain is half the size of that of a man.

There are many men and many women. You are less intelligent than some men and more intelligent than others. You are less trustworthy than some men and more trustworthy than others.

  8. Gpas and gopis in Golok treat Krsna as their friend. They are full of bliss. Do they remember various hardships that they faced when they were in the material world? One answer can be that they forget their lives in material world and therefore they do not feel sad over it. Another answer could be that they do remember but now that they are in Golok, they are not worried over what happened to them in the material world.

Golokians love Krsna and they are not in awe of Him. Another question is do they know that Krsna creates the entire universe which just a fraction of His energy? One answer could be that they do not know and therefore they are not in awe of Him. Another answer could be that they know but Krsna being their friend is important for them and Krsna being Supreme is of no significance to them.

    What do you all think?

  9. Hi Inedible,

The minimum thing that you need to know to participate in this site is nothing. Yes, that is true. Even if you have zero knowledge of Hinduism, you can post here. Go through the posts. If there is anything, which you find difficult to understand, then just ask. Even if your questions are very basis for some other members here, then also do not hesitate in asking.

  10. I was surprised over the word "deftoneism" but I had not heard of it but good that you clarified. In English we use the suffix "ism". In Hindi and Sanskrit we use the suffix "tva". Therefore, it should be deftonetva. After some time, I will write deftonetva in Devanagari. Or, may be you want to write deftoneism itself in Devanagari?

Which one do you want? What I am asking is that suppose I write the word in Devanagari. Somebody, who knows Devanagari, reads that word. How should he pronounce it - deftonetva or deftoneism?
