The above thread was discussion for the 2003 World Tour of Guru Maharaj. I posted it because it does not show up in my "similar threads" bar.

This link provides a wealth of videos featuring Guru Maharaj's lectures.

Yasodanandana prabhu, your photos are most beautiful, thank you so much for sharing.

    Jai Gurudev

  2. I was greatly saddened to read about the untimely departure of Sripad Puru prabhu. My clearest memories of him will always be that of a Vaishnava who invited Their Lordships in deity form into the grha -- and most important of all -- he always without hesitation invited the Vaishnavas into his home. He offered his all to all Vaishnavas, young and old, famous and unknown.

Myself, and others undoubedly, saw Puru prabhu as a bigger than life personality who would outlive many of us in this lifetime, one thing we can all be assured of is that he will be remembered fondly those who were fortunate enough to meet him, as well as his diksa and siksa gurus. I hope that I may carry these memories of Puru prabhu for the rest of my life.

Fascinating. Do you know of the date and place, where and when Srila Prabhupad uttered this quotation? Not that I believe your words to be untrue, I just want to be 108% sure. I never particularly cared for the quotations of Chankaya Pandit, but then again, maybe that was because I never cared for some of those who chose to cite his quotations. Now all we have to do is reconcile our understanding of the Manu Samhita ... Heraculean task right there for many people. Posted Image

    Madhurah swehpna, go rahdomah swehpna,

    morittioo, madhurah, swehpna.

    the lyrics mean:

Madhura = sweet Svapnya = sleep, dream

Go = go Ra = acquire

    Dama = self-control Mari = death

    Tu = overcome

Rath = speak Amah = give

Yuddha = battle Syada = raging

Dai = purify Ya = going

Dan = separate Niha = loss

"John Williams used one line ...from Robert Graves' translation of the Celtic Poem "Cad Goddeu" ("The Battle of the Trees"):

'Under the tongue root a fight most dread, and another raging, behind, in the head.'

It may allude to how the duel is fought on more than one level, the two of them being the Jedi vs. the Sith and the Trade Federation vs. Naboo. "

Maybe I should have included all that in the essay, but I wanted to focus on Lucas' contributions rather than those of John Williams. He says he used Sanskrit because "it sounded the best", but who knows ...

Personally, I do think he was heavily influenced by Vedic themes. Some may think that he took a little from each part of the world, but like I said, I think the Vedic themes far outweigh the other stuff. The only hitch is that this newest movie was incredibly silly to watch. That's maya for you ...

  5. Interesting post!

This reminds me of a short mention of a story of an airship in Mahabharata. Apparently, Lord Shiva gave an airship to this ksatriya after he performed some austerities, and he used it for bad purposes, then Dwarkadish Krishna came and destroyed the airship and dealt justice to the ksatriya who was reponsible. Anyone have more information on this pastime? It's mentioned all too briefly.

  6. Thank you, Jagadish Prabhu! This was a great service that you rendered! I hope many people get to read this ...

In other news, I just wanted to let everybody know that a second world tour for Srila BV Puri Maharaj is in the planning stages. September will be the planned month for the beginning of the USA segment. I will post more when I get more information, but for now, it is in very preliminary stages. I might not even be in the US at the time, or much longer for that matter, but I do hope that many Vaishnavas partake of this rare and beautiful opportunity.

Great stuff. Several months ago I was looking for websites devoted to Srila Bhakti Vaibhava Puri Maharaj. Its good to see these sites out there. Keep up the good work.

    Dear Gauracandra prabhu,

From what I know of www.gauraparsada.org , it was created by a group of Indian-bodied devotees, perhaps some of the brahmacharis from Srila Maharaj's math, I can't be sure. They did a superlative job.

The MP3's are now available on www.bhaktivaibhav.net , due to a decline on angelfire.com's webspace offering. There are many more MP3's available; you can ask Jagadish prabhu if you want anything more.

Srila Maharaj has quite a following in India, but outside of the subcontinent, the bulk of his western disciples are in Italy. There are others in the surrounding areas such as Spain, Slovenia, Austria, and a few in England, I believe. I'm sure that I missed a couple of countries.

In the USA, you could probably count the number of initiated disciples on one hand. There are a few more who can be considered shiksha disciples (Prabhupad diksha disciples). I'm sure there are a few in Mexico, but I haven't heard a very detailed report in that area. All I know is that the programs with Srila Maharaj in Mexico were quite ecstatic.

The MP3's of Srila Maharaj's lectures are going to be mirrored on www.bhaktivaibhav.net pretty soon (the angelfire.com site may not have them due to Angelfire getting very cheap and chintzy about webspace). If anyone has a specific request, post it here, and perhaps JD prabhu and others can facilitate the desires of the Vaishnavas. Posted Image

  9. I don't think that a business alliance would work, simply because there is a complete lack of unity with the devotees. All one has to do is ask "who is your guru?" and if they don't like your guru, they'd probably rather give their business to a karmi than to you. You hear about microcosms of cooperation like the Hilo Ratha Yatra; other than that, nothing. Too much distrust.

  10. I don't think that it's necessary to live in a place with lots of western devotees. I've been to some places in South India where they haven't seen a caucasian in decades, and the hospitality in many cases was much better than in areas with a sizable western devotee population. If you're open to the idea of learning Hindi (start learning now!!!), you don't have to stick to a place where there are lots of westerners.

  11. Dear dasa prabhu,

Thanks for the nice comments Posted Image The ITV videotape of Srila BV Puri Maharaj is quite amazing, and can still be purchased in Krishna Culture Magazine. Very beautiful katha.

Srila Maharaj MAY come to the United States a second time, but no firm arrangements have yet been made. Those who desire his association may very well have their wish fulfilled.

  12. My photographs of the Vyasa Puja Mahotsav 2002 have been submitted to bhaktivaibhav.net and are now viewable. You may go to www.bhaktivaibhav.net or straight to http://www.bhaktivaibhav.net/vp2002.htm

The festivities were held at Godavari, AP this year, the place where Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu met Sri Ramananda Raya. Although not too many westerners attended, there were many many Indian devotees, and very ecstatic naga sankirtan. I hope the photographs captured the moment and inspired some.

  13. Perhaps this is only going on in the New York area, but has anyone noticed that when George Harrison left his body, the media really does not mention his spiritual beliefs? I've watched several specials on TV and the most that they say about him is that he was enamored with Indian spirituality.

Also, when they played his various songs, they only played 1-2 lines of My Sweet Lord. For some reason, the media really does not want to talk about him being a devotee of Krsna. Has anyone noted an exception?

Thank you for the kind words, prabhu. Please send an e-mail to the webmaster (the address is on the main page I believe), if there is anything else you'd like to see in particular. Posted Image
