why should we bother about the dictionery meaning of demigods? The vedas were not written in english or in any other foreign language, but in Sankrit. There are seven lokas(7 worlds) above our planet, and 7 below.Not exactly in verical order. 7 upper lokas refer to 7 places, where people are more enlightened, and are dearer to god. The almighty resides in Satya loka, the top most. People in Bhuvarloka, and suvarloka ( om..bhoo....Bhuva...suvah.......satyam) are nearer to us and are capable of fulfilling most of our worldly desires. They are the Devatas. not Devas. Nor or they equal to the almighty. They are only a bit nearer to the almighty than us, and in fact it is the people from the earth who are capable of progressing to the satya loka even. So for our fulfilment of small, immediate , and worldly desires, we pray lord indra, - a demi god. Our wishes are granted. like wise there are good number of people on earth itself who come to our succor voluntarily, and give us releif. What do we call them? Just Humans? Or Godly? neither. In their attitude to help, they exceed the fellow humans. But still they are not equal to the almighty. Our best friend, or our family members, or our collegues are a good example of these demi gods. Their godliness is however limited. That's why we thank them by referring to them as demigods. There is no other way. Let's not bother about English equivalents.-Prasad.

Thank you Ranjeetmore, You have rerailed the sidetracked discussion. Your quotations and examples were simple and up to the point. Post no 8 by narsingh and 12 by krsna also dealt the same point. Yes we have freewill, but when we surrender that to the God's lotusfeet, he will take care of us. Then it will not be necessary to blame him. He will make us realise, how he can take responsibilty of us, even better than ourselves. Simply surrender your free will to him. -Prasad.

Dear friends, It appears to me that we are drifting away from the topic on hand, and trying to prove our "one-up manship'. This forum is only to share our knowledge, and enlighten others if possible. Coming to the topic, post no 38 by Melvin , in responce to sant, appears to be in bad taste. Melvin asks "Were people happy hundred years ago? living without highspped transport, communications, Diapers, electricity, Medical facilities?" Yes sir, the answer is YES. Why are you talking about only hundred years back? why not say,a million years ? Tretayuga was running. People had all the gadgets necessry for that time. no one died of untimely death except in war. Their Longivity was exceptionally higher. You can't stay comfortable in summer without AC. But You never heard of AC during that time, yet there were no sunstroke deaths!! From wired technology, to wireless technology, to blue tooth -we are progressing gradually, repeat only gradually,and feeling happy that we are living better lives. When the sun is not very hot, (No El Nino effect then) where was the need for ACs? When people lived as per dharma,why take precautions for Aids? Assuming that the vedas were not written, but passed on to the next generations by word of mouth, without any change, don't you appreciate their IQ and their memory power then? Hundred unborn/ under developed foetuses of Gandhari, being made to grow into full born normal babies- does it not speak of the 'outside the womb type pregnancy' and the Medical expertise available then? Have you not heard of Pushpaka vimana, used by Lord Rama? have you not heard of travels by Lord hanuman to the sun? Have you not heard of Ravana making the planets stand still in a particular position at the time of indrajit/ Meghanadh's birth? That means he could control the speed of revolution of the planets in the Solar System. Is it not High-tech? Drona's birth, as per Mahabharata- does it not remind you of a testtube baby? People were happy those days sir!! They had all the comforts necessary for those days by the grace of God!!. We are only seeking his grace. I think the point of "continental drift" is over looked here. If that is taken into consideration, it can be concluded that the land mass of present day srilanka, indonesia, &java were together then, and hence present day srilanka being the centre of action could be correct.. Also keep in mind that Buddhism erased all earlier traces of hinduism from the Island. Ramayana happened few lakh years ago, and in between we had dwapara yuga streching for almost 8lakh years. pl keep these things in mind while coming to conclusions.-Prasad.

About the involvement of god during re incarnation? Mortals like Humans take re-birth, where as God re-incarnates. Humans take rebirth as per the balance in Their account( of good and bad deeds done during the past lives)of fate, also called prarabhdha, and hence take better, equal or lesser forms of life during their next birth. God has no such accumulations, and he reincarnats only to UPHOLD RIGHTEOUSNESS, DESTROY THE WICKED MINDS AND ENCOuRAGE GOOD DEEDS. Please read the verse " YADA YADAHI DHARMASYA GLANIR BHAVATI BHARATA......" wher the above theme is reiterated.

I just wanted to clarify some doubts, so that if ever some one questions me on the topic, I would be in a position to offer a satisfying reply. That's why I sought this forum. If that be the case,our Ego, mind and intellect, being created by God, does he not own the responsibilty to mend the thing? Doesn't he want to rectify Every one of us, and let us tread the path of righteousness? When a machine is bought, the Mechanic or the manufacturer gives a warranty, and, we get the repairs and rectifications the moment we spot some fault in them.
