  1. Respected Santdasji,

Namaskar. Your opinions are true too. Temples are sacred places, full of positive energies. But then how many people that religiously go to temple are good persons? How many people that follow rituals and religious obligations are pure enough? Going to temple is a blessing, but it doesn't change a man, only if, by the grace of god.

I am not against going to temples. It is good. The awareness that god is everywhere must be there and cultivated. God doesn't dwell only in temples as He is omnipresent. That was what I was implying. Namaste.

  2.

I had planned to go to my local temple for settling a time for my namakarana on Saturday, but now I am getting cold feet. I am feeling upset to find out that many Hindus hold that conversion cannot take place in their religion and also that in many temples only South Asian Hindus are even permitted to enter, and the priests enforce this policy, whether the entrants claim to be Hindu or not. To me this feels like Muslims forbidding non-Muslims entry into Mecca because it will somehow "dirty" it. Also some Hindus claiming that while God is universal "their" gods are special to them only.

I know many white Hindus have and do exist, such as George Harrison and many in the scientific and philosophical fields. Personally my interest really took off as a result of my passion for archaeology, which introduced me to ancient India. Actually it was the result of many factors at play but archaeology as my chosen field did play a role, especially the controversy over the Aryan invasion theory.

Also I do not want to "stand out". It is sad to say but racialism is still prevalent in our society and one term I hear used about white Hindus is "wannabes". I may not have been born and raised in India, and may have more liberal social mores as a result (although I do not drink or smoke, nor cheaply give away my body) - would this make me ineligible as a Hindu, especially as an unmarried and self-determined woman who does not feel called to be married?

All I know is that Durga has done more for me than anyone else, merely by chanting in her name I turned from a scared child into an adult. (That doesn't mean I still don't occasionally get nervous, as can be seen!) I try every day to bow before her and Krishna, and Lakshmi, and Ganesh, and meditate on their forms, which always brings a smile to my lips. They (realizing their Oneness) have granted me freedom in a way I did not know before. When I was a little girl I could not admire the saints of different religions - even different denominations - without that sinking drummed-in belief that despite their holiness they were all burning in hell for not putting the right words into their creed. Now I can see the true universalism in faith.

Do I have to undergo a namakarana? I know that even if I were rejected by the community I would still throw myself before God.

BTW, I realize namakarana is typically bestowed on infants, but on some research it seems to be also accepted as the means of accepting Hindu converts, if they are accepted.

    Respected The Sage Nabooru,

Why do you have to look for god outside when God is dwelling inside you? You can do any rituals but remember god isn't exclusive to one group of people, god is there for all. Namaste.

  3. Nidhi Ji,

Well since you both have been checked, I really think follow whatever your doctors say. Yes you can proceed with astrological consultation and doing the necessary remedies. You could also try ayurvedic consultation near you too. Then again, I can only suggest.

Be patient, have faith in good, be positive always. I know it sounds cliche, it really pacifies the mind. Good luck.

  4. Dear Nidhi Ji,

I am not an astrologer, but as I am related to the health care field, I do feel need to channel my opinion here. I would encourage both of you to undergo fertility tests. In this modern era, the precise problem could be identified, to a certain extent. I understand your predicament and depression on this issue.

The husband can consult a male urologist pertaining this matter while the wife can be taken to see a women gynaecologist. Or you can have both of you checked by one same doctor. The choice is yours. You guys must know, this is a commom thing and the specialized doctors are well trained to handle such cases.

After going through/while going through your treatments it is then OK for you guys to do astrological remedies as suggested here or elsewhere. Why I emphasize doing both options is to increase the chances of getting the baby.

Apart from that, please do pray to god and have faith in Him. Do not worry, all things will be ok. May god bless you. Namaste.

** I am sorry to butt in your thread, I apologize for any inconvenience caused**

    Everyone

I'm having a tough time entering into the planes.. I think it's my ADD, and I need to focus, and keep the mind quiet

does anyone know a mantra for this..

and does anyone know a mantra to obtain powers that only the Brahmins received (superhuman)

    Hare Krsna

    Dear Haraksrnaharerama,

I am not an expert in mantras. Well is your ADD diagnozed by a doctor or you are assuming by your own you have ADD? I suggest you go and seek medical help first, if... you have not done it yet. It will alleviate most symptoms. If you have been under treatment, then, you can aide your concentration with with spiritual practices given by a guru. As I do not know about mantras, I leave it to the seniors here to guide you. May god bless you. Namaste.

  6.

Namaste. Pranam. Respectful obeissances to all.

For over a year i have been a passive onlooker into these precious forums that root back to the Vedas.

Please forgive me if i say something wrong or offensive, as believe me, it will be unintentional.

The old debate on Dvaita/achintya bhed-abhed Vs. Advaita has come up again (in a previous thread)

MAY I ASK : What is wrong with me ? 'CAUSE I SEE ABSOLUTELY NO CONTRADICTION between Dvaita and Advaita ?? Yes, where is the contradiction ? ? (By the way, Krshna is my Beloved Lord Who is always with me and there for me.)

Merging into Brahma[n] does not mean becoming God by one individual self, it just means what it says - merging into GOD. Krshna IS that Brahman .

I like MahaPrabhu Vallabhacharya's theory there - (SHUDDHA ADVAITA - pure monism) : The world is Krshna , gross, subtle, all, and Brahman is Krishna, PARAM. Devotion in its most PARA stage is constant flow towards Krishna-Brahman.

Merging into the ONENESS of Brahman means MARCHING IN STEP WITH BRAHMAN . THOSE WHO MARCH OUT OF STEP (live on their own free wil) FALL OF ON THE SIDE, YET THEY ARE STILL IN BRAHMAN ,THEY DON't REALIZE IT. SO THEY HAVE SAMSARA (material realm). The ones who realize they are one with Brahman do not have Samsara. Whether you call it soul-specs of ParaBrahma , part and parcel of the supreme , river into ocean , water-pot space into Universal space, it all means the same thing doesn't it ?

Advaita is not for everyone, at their particular stage in material and spiritual life.

Advaita cannot be thrown at the masses like a frisbee to be caught and absorbed correctly without misinterpretation. It can cause unwanted side effects of arrogance due to misinterpretation of the Truth.

WHEREAS THE HARE KRISHNA MAHAMANTRA CAN BE FREELY DISTRIBUTED. "CHANT AND BE HAPPY" can be for everyone.

I can be the gazillionth servant of the trillionth servant of the Lord ONLY when the Lord is holding my hand and i am one with His Divine will and plan. Surrender to Krshna IS THE SAME AS Merging into Brahman.

    Aren't Radha's Sakhis (expansions of) Radha ?

Selflessness , service , pure love are all included. Being a selfless servant in the spiritual world is really for us, not Krishna. Its just a matter of perspective. An Advaitin Jeevanmukta is not just zoned out, he/she is a selfless servant, and most definitely a lover of God in the true sense. PARA BHAKTI and Jnana are one.

The appearant conflict betN Dvaita and Advaita seems like the story of 6 blind men and the elephant.

    "Its a rope"

    "No! ITs a pillar !"

"I am telling you its a wall"

    "No , you sillies, its a fan !" ......

That elephant is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH, NIRGUN BRAHMAN` , KRISHNA, VISHNU, ALLAH, BHAGWAN, ISHWAR, .........

    Achintya - inconceivable for sure.

Religious sects have disagreements over partial truths, but Advaita has no quarrel with ANY sect. It is all inclusive.

That was my perspective , whatever i can fathom by the Lord's mercy.

    Jai Sri Krshna

    Radhe Radhe !

    Respected Smaranam Ji,

Both advait or dwait paths are beautiful. What impresses you, follow it. God is always there, whatever path you choose to reach Him. I am happy to hear you have penchant and devotion to Lord Krishna. May god bless you, namaste.

It is very interesting to note how mayadevi has her claws on even the most educated people. What use is education if it does not help us to understand the very basic point that our desire for name and fame must be demolished? We acquire so much knowledge, memorize so many verses and preach high philosophy. What use is all that if all its doing is making us feel greater. Are we not just feeding our false ego? Is it not making us more trapped in this bodily designation? Does such fire of desire help us to come to the conclusion that we are not this body but the spirit within? Or is it the biggest block for such realization? What use is all this knowledge if its becoming such a block in our path to liberation. "Divya jnana hrde prakasito" not by merely memorizing and repeating like a parrot...this is how maya gets us..we must think about it sometimes. We may be committing lots of offenses on the strength of Gods teachings..this is misuse of the basic knowledge that the Lord has kindly given us to get perhaps half a step closer to DIVYA JNANA. It is easy to point fingers...we must look within.

    Respected Patit Ji,

I was in a introspective mode after reading your post. Your words are very true. It made me think alot. Thank you. Namaste.

    Hi

My name is Harikrishnan, i have married to a Muslim girl and now she is ready to convert to Hinduism. I would request all the good souls over her to help me in know how to go forward in this regard and what are the procedures to do this, this would be of greater hel pto my future.

Please reply your ideas to my personal id hariikrishnang@gmail.com.

    thanking you all in advance

    Harikrishnan

    Dear Harikrishnan Ji,

This is rather sensitive issue. It need to be dealt in utmost care and tact. As Sant Ji has said, please do anything you wish according to the law. Seek lawyers and go by proper channels. This is to avoid legal disputes. Please solve the matter without haste, if it doesn't create problem now, it will create a problem or two soon, we would never know.

May god bless you and your family. Namaste.

  9.

dear respected kshama, this is a discussion forum and u dont stop us from discussing.

    Respected Sant Ji,

It is not my intention to stop you or anyone from discussing. Go ahead, this is a free forum, and I am aware of that, thank you. I am again sorry to butt in, I won't do it in the future.

  10. Dear Respected Members,

This thread is going way off topic, pardon me for chanelling my thoughts this way. All I have to say, follow whatever path you are practicing. Be tolerant (that certainly won't affect what ever your faith is) with other people's faith too. In short, live and let live. Namaste.

  11. Dear Brendan,

Hinduism is vast like the ocean, one cannot summarize Hinduism to one thread, even with the things you want to hear. I do not dare to quote or state something, because it can mislead people and initiate unhealthy debates. I hope you would understand my position.

I am amazed that you want read something about Hinduism. It is good. But sometimes, what we read, see and hear ourselves, is not as what we perceive, what it is. Even I myself had been in the position sometimes, I am lucky, because learned people point it out at the right time and helped me out from my ignorance pertaining that specific matter.

Well I feel sorry I cannot answer you, as I myself a bit disoriented about what exactly you want to know. I think I will leave it to senior members here. They ought to know better.

    Best wishes,

    Kshama

  12.

What does hinduism bring to you?

    It brings me immense happiness.

    What does it mean ?

What does it mean to me? It makes me understand there is a way of life that gives me the liberty to choose my own path of devotion, makes me tolerant and respect people of different religions and paths of devotion and above all makes me live my life to the fullest.

Simply rituals or way of life or only worshipping gods or dead member of family or of friends?

It is much more beyond that. It is assimilation of many positive things.

Are you happy with it ? How ?

Yes every in every breath I take I am happy to be a Hindu. I do not know how to be happy when I am already in a state of bliss, how could I ask for more?

Do you think that if you were involved in another religion you would be less happier ?

I do not know in details about other religions, but, every religion has it's beauty and path to reach god. From what I see, the followers of the religions are the ones confused and make the religion complex.

    Namaste

  13. Respected Hindustani Ji,

The incident that you have experienced does convey a message or two to people out there. Rudrakshas are powerful indeed. I must also say that, not all will have divine help like this in their lifetime. You are one of the many people that have seen and felt the benefits of wearing rudraksha.

There are many people who wear rudraksha as a fashion statement, showing-off they are pious and there are some that even do not know why they wear it. But I do think if the rudraksha is given the proper respect, the wearer behaves in a respected way in life, then the effect of wearing it, is prominent. If not, all efforts are futile. Namaste.

  14.

Well actually, I was not used to seeing this as I live abroad.

Overhere, this kind of practice are rare and even criticized because allways related to money and charlatans are allways available ;-).

In india, it is more common, right.

Do you think their advice is true ? Do you really think that there is divine possession ?

In this case, how do they do this ? Who gave them this power ? How does it come this practice is more common in India than in developped countries ?

    Arjun2826 Ji,

I cannot answer your questions about mediums in India, it is very unfair for me to generalize them, as I am a foreigner.

Trance is a possible thing. But the credibility of the medium and accuracy of predictions are not easy to measure. People ask assistance from mediums when in misery or some kind of problems that they can't handle....so in that condition everthing seems true.

There are indeed good mediums too. In my country, the mediums usually are trained by their guru. So they are to an extent advanced spiritually. Well I do not have much knowledge further than this. So I think I better stop commenting.

    Namaste.

  15.

What is the beginning of Hindu love and walking with the divine as friends? What about sin and being separated from friendship?

And what about turning back from sin, why would one, how so? What crosses to disunion? Where does the will and strength come from?

Can you be forgiven and have a clear conscience again, like a small child, and the hope of all good things restored? What happens and how?

    Shalom.

    Dear Brendan,

Welcome to the forum. Nice questions by you, I must say. The thing is your questions are so obscure and not connected well, so I am getting a bit disoriented. Pardon me for my bluntness, perhaps if you make your questions clearer and in simple tone, more people can relate and perhaps write a reply or two. Thank you.

  16. Yes it is a very common thing actually. In the my country, Malaysia, there are two kinds of temples, one the usual one(usual rituals and poojas) and the other are temples run by priests (mostly locals) that are able to go into trance.

In my place, people flock at unusual hours into temples that has trance activities going on. The main reason they would go is probably settling their problems, through consultation offered by the mediums (people that are able to get into trance).

There are many charlatans out there. Many reported cases that people are duped here. I cannot comment on India, it isn't fair because I am a foreigner, and I do not know the credibility of the mediums there.

One thing I can say is that, surrender to god. There is no greater power than god. In this world we are currently living, all things we want in instant, so I understand people seeking short-cuts. But then, when everthing leaves you....god will always be there for you. Think about it....

  17. Kundalinijagaranam Ji,

I am not an astrologer, but I feel moved by your condition. I reckon you are somewhere near Maharasta, I might be wrong. Could you state your birth city? It is easier for people to use that in their programme.

I know I am not in your shoes so I certainly I wouldn't know your sufferring. Keep your faith in god. Remember always when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. It is just one phase of life. There are many bright things to look upon your life, just be positive.

I am sure respected astrologers here will respond to your post. Good luck

  18. Vanakam,

Rajah Ji, I think you should post your birth details in Vedic astrology section. This section that you have posted is for questions, clarifications and knowledge about mantras and tantras.

I am sure many astrologers will likely to help you in the vedic astrology section. Thank you and good luck. God bless you.

  19. Sambya Ji,

Everyone are blessed, because we are still living. All is by the grace of God. It paves way for us to enhance ourselves spiritually or to find our paths of devotion in life. We do not know how much time we have got left in this life of ours. Believe me, all of you and other members are blessed to be living, as there is room for improvement every second. Namaste.

  20. Respected Pandora Ji,

The blessed members above have advised the right thing. Dreams are not worth thinking much as soon after arising from bed. But in a psychological perspective, it might mean something deep. Since you mentioned the setting of your dream is a spiritual one, so I guess it is wise to do as what blessed members above said. Do not worry much. Namaste.

  21. Thank you for bringing up a substantial thread with a substantial message. I do think detachment or renunciation is difficult to perform these days, but it is not impossible. What is important, to my little knowledge is vairagya. How to cultivate, nourish and maintain the vairagya is another thing to ponder about....How? Namaste.
