Jains do not eat root vegetables. I think it is either because they are concerned about killing worms and other small creatures when one digs the earth or perhaps because they are opposed to using iron implements to cut into the body of the earth. Very few Hindus share that view and I think a lot of Jains also eat root vegetables, it is only those who are very strict who don't.

I eat root vegetables also but I have relatives who look funny at me when I do so I was just wondering why.

If you believe that Sai Baba is God, then please post Scriptural references prophesising Sathya Sai Baba's incarnation.

I fail to see why he has to prove anything to anyone. He came to share his beutiful experience, not to be told that what he thought happened didn't really happen. He knows what he experienced more than anyone.

BG 2.72: That is the way of the spiritual and godly life, after attaining which a man is not bewildered. If one is thus situated even at the hour of death, one can enter into the kingdom of God.

BG 6.28: Thus the self-controlled yogī, constantly engaged in yoga practice, becomes free from all material contamination and achieves the highest stage of perfect happiness in transcendental loving service to the Lord.

BG 13.15: The Supersoul is the original source of all senses, yet He is without senses. He is unattached, although He is the maintainer of all living beings. He transcends the modes of nature, and at the same time He is the master of all the modes of material nature.

BG 13.23: Yet in this body there is another, a transcendental enjoyer, who is the Lord, the supreme proprietor, who exists as the overseer and permitter, and who is known as the Supersoul.

these are just four examples of many, why Lord Krsna sometimes talk about the Lord as someone different from Him?

    Thanks

When in confusion, I recomend that you have a look at other translations:

Any mantra can be and should be repeated daily as japa.

Every mantra technically requires initiation by a guru

Thanks. I just don't know where to find one but for now I'll have to do without.

.For a start, Buddha is an incarnation of Lord Krishna, as attested by the Vedic Scriptures.

Was there a specific name and time given? I always wondered about this. I am asking out of curiosity because Mahaveer, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, had a simular mission to Buddha. Mahavir came a little before Buddha but they were both contempories. So I am asking because it could have been either one of those but Mahaveer isn't that well known. Neminath, the 22nd Jina was Krishna's cousin. Not sure if they lived during the same time though but he was mentioned in Rig Veda along with the first Tirthankara.

  6. Can anyone suggest one? I know the Maha Mantra, but I'd like ones which include an OM.

These are two I am interested in but can they be used for ordinary japa or not?:

    • Om Namo Bhagavate Vāsudevāya - I really like this one but can I do it everyday as a japa mantra? I'm not sure on how to use this.
    • Om Kleem Krishnaya Namah - I heard Kleem shouldn't be used unless initiated by a Guru. Is this true?
    • Om Sri Krishnaya Namah

    Dear milly,

I dont know whether that is a complaint . (Some religious mind have problem with science. I dont know you are refering to that 0 As to myself I am more of a mystic. I dont have the split between science and spirituality. I have seen it in my mystical experience most of science is trrue but only limited. There is no contradiction between science and religion as my understanding of science and religion. After all there3 is only one reality. Everything is spiritual Even material is spiritual.

I dont mean that you have a problem of science - spirituality split. Only I am clarifyinmg my position in case you have a problem.

    Regards,

    K.Ravindran

Not at all! I think you may have misunderstood. Some of the terms you used in your post were scientific and I am not familiar with science on the same level as you. Everyone experiences spirituality differently and there is nothing to say your experience is any less valid than anyone elses. Sorry for the misunderstanding. :)

What has to be understood is vaisnavanam yatha sambhuh: Lord Siva is the best of all devotees. Therefore all devotees of Lord Krsna are also devotees of Lord Siva. In Vrndavana there is Lord Siva's temple called Gopisvara. The gopis used to worship not only Lord Siva but Katyayani, or Durga, as well, but their aim was to attain the favor of Lord Krsna. A devotee of Lord Krsna does not disrespect Lord Siva, but worships Lord Siva as the most exalted devotee of Lord Krsna. Consequently whenever a devotee worships Lord Siva, he prays to Lord Siva to achieve the favor of Krsna, and he does not request material profit. In Bhagavad-gita (7.20) it is said that generally people worship demigods for some material profit. Kamais tais tair hrta jnanah. Driven by material lust, they worship demigods, but a devotee never does so, for he is never driven by material lust. That is the difference between a devotee's respect for Lord Siva and a non-Vaishnava's respect for Lord Siva.

I did not meditate on them for material benefit but for mental peace. I cannot decide which mantra to settle on so I am wondering if I can chant both. Is this possible? I heard that one must settle on one mantra.

    Namaste

Apparently I had the same experience that you did concerning Shiva and the Hare Krishna mantra. Last month (or the month before) I was chanting the mantra on a mala and when my eyes were closed I kept having clear images come to my mind of Shiva. This happened on other days too.

A similiar experience occured one night while doing japa of the name Rama. It was going on for a while and when my eyes were closed I saw a clear image of the Buddha's head twice.

I wonder if anyone else sees Shiva when they chant Hari's names! :)

You are lucky to have seen clear visions of him :). For me it was my mind which kept getting diverted to him. So for now now I'll continue with both mantras. I'm not really sure where I'm going right now.

vivid dreams and visions are generally a way of your inner consciousness trying to tell you something.

if you look and at the time, place and circumstances under which u had the vision you will know why u had the vision...

sometimes the vision of a garba implies a new brother, sister or child being added to the family. like a vision of tandava is a portent of imminent destruction

only you will have to look deep within keeping your self and ego aside... look within and you will know.

It was so long ago that I cannot remember. But the thing you said about a new addition to the family, well it may have been the case. But I can't really remember exactly how old I was when I had the vision.
