If death takes place, let it take here. There is nothing to be said now.
Whatever I have to speak, I have spoken in my books. Now you try to
understand it and continue your endeavor.
Whether I am present or not
present, it doesn’t matter. As Krishna is living eternally, similarly,
living being also lives eternally.
But ”One who has done service to the Lord
lives forever.” So you have been taught to serve Krishna, and with Krishna
we’ll live eternally. Our life is eternal.
A temporary disappearance of this
body doesn’t matter. Body is meant for disappearance. So live forever by
serving Krishna -.

Submitted by Madhavendu das SSM (Vrindavan - IN)Introduction: By now it is common knowledge that for the production of sugar some animal bone is used for the filtration or discoloration of sugar. However the use of sugar is so widely prevalent that many have been given to understand that there is no additive in the form of animal product and also some how given the impression that the final product sugar does not directly come in contact with the animal matter and hence no cause for concern. We were asked to carry out tests to check if sugar contains any animal residue in it . When checking the testing procedures we were shocked to find that no such full proof tests exists and the normal testing procedure which does test for calcium cannot distinguish between calcium in bone and calcium of cane. Hence a detailed study of the process was decided to be studied and we present the brief of our study.
Brief Report: During the study it has been seen that almost all the sugar mills are using Bone Meal, that is bone carbon of animals mostly Cow for the cane sugar process to make the sugar white. It is so widely prevalent that we were shocked to find out that huge quantities of Cow bone is being imported from Pakistan mostly and some quantity from Afghanistan and Bangladesh. It surprising that the though vegetable carbon can be used for this purpose, all mills almost uniformly use animal bones/cow bones for the purpose as this is cheaper. There may be a few sugar mills which may not be using bone carbon, but it is very rare and we are yet to trace such a mill. We are still continuing this study to find any kind of tests and further study the mills process and recommend better process. At the moment our concentration is on finding mills that do not use bone carbon for their process.
Preview:
1. The question given to us was does sugar contain animal product and to test for the same in any standard laboratory.
2. We contacted M/s. Anatech of Bangalore which earlier conducted a very intensified study and testing in establishing the contamination of so called pure ghee in the market with several adulterants, varying from vegetable oil, hydrogenated fat , chicken and cow fat, in several leading and established brands. The results were shocking to say the least and we conducted further tests and study and the results repeated . We also studied several other products incidentally and concluded that in a country where adulteration is a fine science, and Government agencies look the other way and do not even implement adulteration act passed by the Supreme court over two years back almost anything is possible . For example it is not un-common to mix over 30% red mud in chilly powder and a further 10 to 15% rice husk powder and banned dye to camouflage the same. In at least a couple mills this was being done so openly even when the government food inspector visited. Of course no action was taken.
3. With reference to sugar we just assumed that such a test existed and tried to test the sugar for the same. To our surprise no such tests existed. One way of testing was to spectrogram of a known sugar which does not use animal product in any way and compare the other sugar spectrogram with this . But we could not get any sugar in the market so far which can be conclusively said not to use animal bone.
4. In the absence of such procedures it was decided to study the mills process of sugar making to get some idea of the animal bone being used.
The Study: We are enclosing herewith the detailed report by M/sAnatech which gives some results of sugar tests and the brief process of sugar making.
1. The problem we knew from the beginning is that of definition. This animal bone is not added to the sugar and hence qualifies for a definition of being vegetarian. But the sugar syrup is passed through the bone carbon for removing the dark coloration of the cane sugar. The debate commonly has been does the residue animal bone get into the sugar crystals and the answer from the sugar mills is no. But several independent opinion is that some overlay would get onto the sugar crystals though they may not get into the sugar itself.
2. It is strange that in a country that worships cow, we have got into the debate of weather cow bone residue gets left over in the sugar , rather than why cow bone would be used at all Or for that matter why animal bone or products need to be used at all. (, specially when an alternative is so easily available , albeit at a higher cost.)
3. The dark coloration is unique to cane sugar and this dark color can be removed by passing through active carbon filter. The active carbon filter can be vegetable carbon like some wood and coconut shell and also bone carbon(specifically cow as this is cheaper and available in larger quantity. )
4. Incidentally in places like USA the sugar is made from Beet and beet sugar process does not need the discoloration process and there fore animal or any other carbon is not used for discoloration. This is also one of the reason that such testing procedure has not evolved as this is not needed in USA or Europe.
4. About 20 years ago we had been to Sri Lanka for some projects and we got involved with the Coconut promotion council in promoting the use of coconut products. One of the products under discussion was active carbon derived from coconut shell. Sri Lanka had huge quantities of coconut shell and they were making active carbon from them for use in several industries including sugar mills. Even at that time they had reported poor response from the sugar mills in India as they were reluctant to substitute the bone product in use due to the cost factor. Incidentally Sri Lankan Coconut carbon is very high in active carbon content and is considered best in the world for quality and also processing and promoting this product.
5. We further decided to engage some persons in literature survey to get details of the sugar process.
The Process in the Mills:
1. The study conducted gave us very shocking results.
2. Animal Bone mostly cow bone is used in the discoloration process in almost all the mills. This is basically due to the cost factor. Now with the sugar price control by the government the sugar mills are running under loss and there is very little chance of any mill trying to use vegetable carbon. We estimate that the price of sugar would go up by Rs. 2.00 per Kg if vegetable carbon is used instead of animal carbon.
3. There may be exception to this . It is understood that some years back a Birla group M/s. Rajashree Sugar in Madhya Pradesh was manufacturing sugar without the use of Animal bone char, to ensure pure vegetarian sugar. They need to be contacted to check if the same process is being followed up even now.
4. The other exception is that very small sugar plants cannot have the economies of scale of using bone char and these also use vegetable char. We are unable to collect data on this so far and still pursuing the same.
5. Cow bones are imported from Pakistan mostly and other neighboring countries as they are cheaper . The bones are normally cleaned of all extra flesh and blood before converting into active carbon for use in the industry. However the cleaning is not conducted properly and there is left over of bone marrow which may get into the product as overlay. As the crystallization process does not allow the animal matter to get into and inside the product. However the chances of animal residue getting into the process is very strong , though it may get removed as residue later on during the crystallisation process. There is no doubt of the contact of the sugar with the animal product.
6. M/s. Anatech was completely shocked at the revelation of the study. He said he was surprised to know that such large quantity of bones were being imported from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. . With economy being the main motive cleanliness is the last thought in their mind. It is just plain rotten stuff being imported as the bones are not completely cleaned and dried prior to import or during the conversion to carbon.
5. M/s. Anatech states that the use of animal bone in the sugar process as filter is dangerous in the long run as any virus that may be in the bones would not be killed by the sugar process and would have every chance of getting into the sugar products. This is a danger of all animal products. He says that the use of such old bones, rotting and badly handled would have great chance of any deadly virus or its strain entering the final product. He says this is a silent ticking bomb, waiting to explode at any time.
( Incidentally we knew of two of our business acquaintances who use to deal in Bones of Cow. One was Mr. Mushtaque of Bangalore who use to boil cow bones to extract fat for supply to manufactures to make soap used in industries. The other was an NRI from Singapore who started M/s. Vijay bone meals at Chennai , to supply bones to various industries including sugar mills. We know from their rendition of their industry process, that hygiene and completion of the process, was the last thing in their mind. They used to tell us that the bones are so difficult to clean that most of the times the bones are not well cleaned for the next process and bone marrow, sinews etc would get left behind. It took us some time but we finally by the Lords mercy persuaded both of them to discontinue this industry and look for a better alternative to earn money)
Test Procedure:
We are still looking for any test procedure to conclusively test for any animal residue. This is difficult but we are pursuing and contacting other research and labs round the world through M/s. Anatech.
What is the alternative:1. Use jaggery instead.
2. We understand that small mills may not use bone sugar. We need to identify such mills and under certification use such sugar.
3. During our childhood for festivals for making bhoga a sugar by name ‘Bhoosa-sugar ‘ used to be available. This was direct cyrstalised sugar from the village jaggery making process. We are unable to trace such product now in the market. With the supply chain changing the direct contact of some jaggery makers with the small trader has been lost.
4. We know that in some countries abroad due to health reasons they use sugar which has not passed through the filtration process and is brown ununiform crystals called brown sugar. However such similar sugars available in India are actually caramel that is white sugar burnt partially for use in cakes and cookies . We should be careful of such so called vegetarian sugars in the market.
5. We should contact such mills run by the Birla group and find out if they have a animal bone free process.
6. Beet sugar invariable does not use animal bone and can be totally vegetarian.
7. We should try to enforce the government to label all sugar as either “animal-bone-used” or “animal-bone- not-used” in the interest of the public.
with kind regards,
Your servant, Hari Purushotham Das

Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, "'Though the hearts of the gopīs are like high-standing hills, they are inundated by the waves of the nectarean ocean of Kṛṣṇa's beauty. His sweet voice enters their ears and gives them transcendental bliss, the touch of His body is cooler than millions and millions of moons together, and the nectar of His bodily fragrance overfloods the entire world. O My dear friend, that Kṛṣṇa, who is the son of Nanda Mahārāja and whose lips are exactly like nectar, is attracting My five senses by force.'CC Antya 15.15: "Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa's beauty, the sound of His words and the vibration of His flute, His touch, His fragrance and the taste of His lips are full of an indescribable sweetness. When all these features attract My five senses at once, My senses all ride together on the single horse of My mind but want to go in five different directions.
CC Antya 15.16: "O My dear friend, please hear the cause of My misery. My five senses are actually extravagant rogues. They know very well that Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but they still want to plunder Kṛṣṇa's property.
CC Antya 15.17: "My mind is just like a single horse being ridden by the five senses of perception, headed by sight. Each of My senses wants to ride that horse, and thus they pull My mind in five directions simultaneously. In what direction will it go? If they all pull at one time, certainly the horse will lose its life. How can I tolerate this atrocity?
CC Antya 15.18: "My dear friend, if you say, 'Just try to control Your senses,' what shall I say? I cannot become angry at My senses. Is it their fault? Kṛṣṇa's beauty, sound, touch, fragrance and taste are by nature extremely attractive. These five features are attracting My senses, and each wants to drag My mind in a different direction. In this way the life of My mind is in great danger, just like a horse ridden in five directions at once. Thus I am also in danger of dying.
CC Antya 15.19: "The consciousness of each woman within the three worlds is certainly like a high hill, but the sweetness of Kṛṣṇa's beauty is like an ocean. Even a drop of water from that ocean can flood the entire world and submerge all the high hills of consciousness.
CC Antya 15.20: "The sweetness of Kṛṣṇa's joking words plays indescribable havoc with the hearts of all women. His words bind a woman's ear to the qualities of their sweetness. Thus there is a tug-of-war, and the life of the ear departs.
CC Antya 15.21: "Kṛṣṇa's transcendental body is so cool that it cannot be compared even to sandalwood pulp or to millions upon millions of moons. It expertly attracts the breasts of all women, which resemble high hills. Indeed, the transcendental body of Kṛṣṇa attracts the minds of all women within the three worlds.
CC Antya 15.22: "The fragrance of Kṛṣṇa's body is more maddening than the aroma of musk, and it surpasses the fragrance of the bluish lotus flower. It enters the nostrils of all the women of the world and, making a nest there, thus attracts them.
CC Antya 15.23: "Kṛṣṇa's lips are so sweet when combined with the camphor of His gentle smile that they attract the minds of all women, forcing them to give up all other attractions. If the sweetness of Kṛṣṇa's smile is unobtainable, great mental difficulties and lamentation result. That sweetness is the only wealth of the gopīs of Vṛndāvana."
CC Antya 15.24: After speaking in this way, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu caught hold of the necks of Rāmānanda Rāya and Svarūpa Dāmodara. Then the Lord said, "My dear friends, please listen to Me. What shall I do? Where shall I go? Where can I go to get Kṛṣṇa? Please, both of you, tell Me how I can find Him."
CC Antya 15.25: Thus absorbed in transcendental pain, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu lamented day after day in the company of Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī and Rāmānanda Rāya.
CC Antya 15.26: To enhance the ecstatic mood of the Lord, Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī would sing appropriate songs and Rāmānanda Rāya would recite suitable verses. In this way they were able to pacify Him.

With all due respect to all of Krsna's jivas who have made the biggest blunder to come here in this material world rather than enter into the spiritual world with Sri Radha and Krsna, ...
why does it seem like I'm surrounded by lunatics from the mad house?

I want to be a gentleman but experience tells me that I place myself:eek: in very dangerous position every time i try to..?

According to Srila Sridhar Maharaj, when Mahaprabhu heard about this pastime, He smiled and remarked, "who is the father and who is the son?" Srila Sridhar Maharaj used this part of Gaura lila to illustrate how a disciple can actually be more advanced than the guru, although the disciple would never think like that, themselves. Sometimes reality transcends formal considerations, but that does not mean to stop following Vaisnava sadacar or etiquette.

Srila Prabhupada: Hmm?
Amogha: That we should not try to read Bhaktivinoda's books or earlier books of other, all acaryas. So I was just wondering . . .
SP:I never said that.
Ad: You didn't say that? Oh.
SP: How is that?
Ad: I thought you sadi that we should not read the previous acaryas' books.
SP: No, you should read.
Ad: We should.
SP: It is misunderstanding.
PS (Paramahamsa): I think maybe he was thinnking that there was something about some of the Gaudiya Math books.
SP: Maybe.
PS: And sometimes you said that better not to . . . better to read your books.
Ad: Wehn the devotees went to India this year, they said that Acyatananda SWami very . . . chastised them that "you should never . . . If I catch any of you buying Bhaktisiddhanta's books from Gaudiya Math, then I will take it away." Something like this.
PS: Yeah, that was . . . the reason was because of . . . he didn' want the devotees going to Gaudiya Math. But there's nothing wrong with the idea of studying the previous acaryas' books.
SP: No. who said? That is wrong. We are follwing the previous acaryas.

THE CHANTERS OF THE KIRTAN OF LORD HARI
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada
The sadhu helps the fallen jiva to regain his natural state of freedom from sin, by the constant service of bringing about the descent of transcendental sound in the form of words uttered by his lips and the mahaprasada in the shape of food that is offered by him to the Lord.
The sound uttered by the sadhu and the mahaprasada are not things of this world.
They are not identical with ordinary sound or ordinary food which are only means for the gratification of our sensuous appetites.
The word of God and mahaprasada cannot be enjoyed, or in other words cannot be used for the gratification of the senses, because they are spiritual.
Those who enjoy the kirtana, or any spiri-tual discourse, or eat the mahaprasada for appeasing hunger or for gratification of the palate are guilty of sacrilegious acts which serve only to prolong the state of sin and ignorance. This is the greatest possible calamity that can befall the human soul.
The kirtana of Hari is the constant and natural function of all the faculties of the jiva soul in the state of it’s freedom from all affinities with this changeable world.
Because the absolute truth is identical with Hari, Hari has to be served exclusively, constantly, and by all the faculties of the soul.
The only function of the voice is to chant the kirtana of Hari, which is identical with and inseparable from the simultaneous service of Hari by all the other senses.
One who does not employ his voice constantly and exclusively in chanting the kirtana of Hari has no access to the service of Hari by any other faculty.
The kirtana of Hari has therefore to be chanted by being humbler than a blade of grass. There can be no trace of worldly vanity. There can be no seeking after any worldly advantage. The only object should be to please Lord Hari.
The absolute truth is a living person and not an abstract principle.
He has the power of communicating His commands to us and ex-pressing His approval and disapproval of our activities. No one can understand His com-mand who does not fully submit to Him.
The absolute truth is not anything limited or partial; neither can it be divided. It is not dependent on any condition except itself. It is always one and the same.

Is it DESIRE the only thing the jiva soul in this world can "do"?
That is to say, the minute particle of independnce afforded by KRSNA is either to accept the shelter of the internal pleasure giving potency of KRSNA or remain under the stringent laws, shackles of Maya. Choose!
Yes KRSNA, I'll serve you with love and devotion !

Jan 21, CANADA (SUN) — A weekly response to Dandavats editorials.
Today's edition of Obeisances is in response to a recent article by Jatayu dasa (SDG) entitled "Where is the Fault in ISKCON?" I'm calling attention to this particular article for a number of reasons. It's not that I think anyone can glean anything philosophically substantial from the article, but rather to highlight a common dynamic we find when persons such as Jatayu dasa, a disciple of Satsvarupa das Goswami, try to make a comeback in ISKCON. Here Jatayu prabhu is revealing his mood and sentiment as he tries to ingratiate himself with those he classifies as "senior devotees".
We don't get to know the author at all by reading his article, beyond the fact that he obviously became a devotee shortly after Srila Prabhupada left. The "senior devotee" nomenclature that he repeatedly uses is referring to Srila Prabhupada disciples. We get a vague idea of how, according to his own reflections, he didn't treat the authorities in the temple with the respect he should have back in the days when he was serving.
Back in that era, the service I performed for Srila Prabhupada was primarily as a Temple President, and I suppose Jatayu is referring to people such as myself. I too have had to reflect a great deal on the phenomenon that's become more and more prevalent within our community of devotees, wherein some devotees are being considered "senior". "Senior", by and large, doesn't mean much. As Jatayu uses it, "Senior" basically means you joined sometime back, especially if you're a Srila Prabhupada disciple. Now, I assume, it also includes people who joined in the late 1970's and 1980's. But we find there's very little spiritual scientific analysis of this whole idea of "senior". "Senior" doesn't mean advanced. It doesn't mean you're exhibiting symptoms or qualities of an advanced devotee. We understand from sastra that an advanced devotee can be a child, like Prahlad Maharaja, or someone who isn't exhibiting himself as an authority. Personally, I think it's a type of spiritual laziness for devotees to use these designations arbitrarily, without carefully or intelligently considering who even is a devotee, let alone a Vaisnava. Overall, our use of "junior" and "senior" are generally just labels used for all but philosophical purposes.
A closely related dynamic to this is the way we often hear the phrase, "I like to serve the devotees". In nearly all cases, the person making the statement has made no determination as to the actual spiritual benefits they might obtain by serving an actually advanced devotee in comparison to serving someone who is either untrained or isn't exhibiting the symptoms of being advanced.
In my opinion, Jatayu's article is pure unalloyed sentiment. It has no philosophical content of merit. Of course, Dandavats doesn't discriminate on that basis. Because the article casts a favourable light on senior devotees, who are the peers of the editor, and because Jatayu makes institutional leaders such as Temple Presidents look good, Dandavats is happy to give the author audience.
I find it quite interesting where he states that the early devotees didn't have a proper place to sleep or proper meals, and didn't have warm clothing. He says some were Srila Prabhupada's personal servants, Temple Presidents and book distributors. From my experience back in the ISKCON lila days, the devotees in these categories were actually the ones who did have all those things. It wasn't usually the Temple Presidents or Srila Prabhupada's servants who went without - it was the devotees sleeping in vans or eating on the road, or living in basements and doing the menial tasks. They're the ones who really experienced inadequate material circumstances. Back in those days we didn't really think we were doing without or suffering unnecessarily, although you could hardly find a place to put your sleeping bag down at night because the place was so crowded. You just had a little cubicle to put all your personal belongings in. The daily food ration was dal, chapattis and rice and porridge in the morning, but everyone was very happy and enlivened. Unfortunately, that period really didn’t last too long. After while, in the latter part of Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON lila, money was flowing and the devotees began eating too much rich food.
The whole idea that Jatayu's projecting is that he would have made so much more spiritual advancement had he served his authorities in a more diligent way and respected them more. But this doesn't hold a lot of philosophical weight. Who he should have been serving, meditating on and thinking about, is Srila Prabhupada himself, and how to please Srila Prabhupada. Many devotees had been led astray by convincing themselves or being convinced by others that if I just serve some person who's slightly above me, without discrimination or contemplation of whether or not they, themselves are in tune with the Sampradaya Acarya, then I'll get spiritual advancement. In some extreme circumstances like New Vrindavan, some of these eager devotees actually committed murder in order to please their leaders. Women practically prostituted themselves. There are so many examples of foolish people who were coerced, fooled and conned by adopting the mentality Jatayu is promoting in this article.
In fact, devotees have to really take responsibility, especially under the circumstances we're now in, when a Sampradaya Acarya is not personally present, as Srila Prabhupada was in the ISKCON lila period. Even in that period, this same principle applied because Srila Prabhupada was hardly ever physically present. You had to make a conscientious effort to understand Srila Prabhupada through his books and by listening carefully to his lectures, ascertaining for yourself what is right and what is wrong, what is real service, what does Srila Prabhupada want, and how does he want you to do it. And had to develop the spiritual maturity to actually say "no" under certain circumstances to your institutional authorities, when they were instructing you to do something you felt in your heart and by your commonsense was not inline with Srila Prabhupada. While there may be a certain etiquette as to how one questions or challenges, one should ultimately be ready to say no. If the answers to your questions are not forthcoming or don't dispel the doubt you have, you have a right to say "no".
Personally, I feel very foolish about how I went along to get along, not saying "no" at times when I should have. I even left Vrindavan on the order of my GBC, who happens to be Jatayu's guru, just prior to Srila Prabhupada's departure when I should have said "no". And that's just one of many examples I could give. In fact, I could say that many of the miserable circumstances I experienced in ISKCON were because I tried to just obediently obey the persons who happened to be my authorities at the time, even though my mind, common sense and understanding of the philosophy made me conclude that what they were doing was wrong. If I had just said "no" back then, it might not have even made much difference or impacted my service. Unfortunately, the mentality that Jatayu is promoting as being ideal or exemplary is what got me into trouble. And from where I sit today, I can see that it was foolishness.
My personal advice to anyone who wants to join an institution like ISKCON in order to enhance their service or make spiritual advancement is that they carefully consider the reality of relationships with their "authorities". There are undoubtedly some trade-off's and a degree of compliance one has to be in as it pertains to more mundane matters, for the sake of harmony and getting things done. But when it comes to tough philosophical issues, one has to see through the eyes of Sastra and Guru, and take a stand. We can see that Jatayu still thinks Satsvarupa is a guru, and that's a perfect example of not applying one's common sense or the tests of Guru, Sadhu and Sastra.
So while I'm afraid his article offers little of value, it does stand as a perfect example of a bewildered person who's coming to the wrong conclusion. Jatayu obviously feels that his problems in life and his struggles are due to not being obedient to institutional authorities, when in fact it's not that at all. It's because he doesn't understand Srila Prabhupada, he doesn't understand the philosophy, and therefore he doesn't know how to apply it. Therefore, he suffers. It's certainly nothing to do with the reasons he's presenting in his article. Jatayu would not have been saved from his suffering by being more subservient to his authorities, many of whom couldn't even save themselves in the end - including his own guru.
Obeisances to Dandavats, and to Sriman Jatayu das.

Practicing Krishna Consciousness at Home (by Padmapani das)
Since the vast majority of our readers are coming to Srila Prabhupada and Krishna Consciousness for the first time through Internet searches, and without access to devotee association or a nearby Hare Krishna temple, many people have inquired about how they can set up an altar in their homes and start practicing Krishna Consciousness at their own pace.
The first and foremost principle of Krishna Consciousness is chanting the Hare Krishna mantra:
"Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare"
This mantra is a prayer to the Supreme Lord which means: "O energy of the Lord (Hare), O all-attractive Lord Krishna, O Supreme Enjoyer (Rama), please engage me in Your service."
As God and His name are nondifferent from Him and thus all-powerful ("Hallowed be the name of the Lord"), when we chant His holy name sincerely, we are directly associating with Him and we become purified. As we become more advanced in chanting Hare Krishna, we feel God's presence more and more, and consequently we become automatically happy and satisified on the spiritual platform. Therefore, "Chant Hare Krishna and be happy" is one of our favorite mottos in Krishna Consciousness. Please try it for yourself and see the results. "The proof of the pudding is in the eating."
In addition, we recommend that you set up an altar in your home to help you focus even more on the Lord and His service. Although many cities in the world now have established temples with elaborate worship and regular programs available to the public, for those unable to attend, Srila Prabhupada recommends the simple process of advancing in spiritual life wherever you may live and in whatever circumstances you may find yourself. Prabhupada has repeatedly said that there are no material impediments to Krishna Consciousness. All that's required is the sincere desire and effort on your part. "If you take one step towards Krishna, then Krishna will take ten steps towards you."
Srila Prabhupada once wrote to an aspiring disciple:
"To prosecute Krishna Consciousness there is no limitation, no material impediment can stop progress of Krishna Consciousness. That is the symptom of spiritual life. Spiritual life doesn't depend on material conditions.
"We have got many instances from the history of devotee's life as Prahlada Maharaja. He was a small school boy, his father and teachers were all against God Consciousness. Still he flourished and converted all his class fellows to be Krishna Conscious in spite of severe trials experimented on his personal body.
"So it is only the question of understanding the process how to execute Krishna Consciousness."
(Srila Prabhupada letter, February 13, 1968)
On another occasion, Prabhupada wrote to a young student who was having health problems, and who couldn't attend the official temple programs established by Srila Prabhupada in one of his nearby asramas:
"It does not matter that you do not live within our temple, since you say your health does not permit. But you can make your home a temple for Krishna.
"First thing is that you should try to follow strictly our regulative principles -- no meat, fish or eggs; no intoxicants, including coffee, tea and cigarettes; no illicit sex; and no gambling. Try also to chant as many times as possible the Hare Krishna mantra on japa beads. You may keep a picture of Lord Krishna in your house and after cooking you may learn to offer the foodstuffs to the picture of Krishna."
(Srila Prabhupada letter, January 27, 1973)
In this way, Srila Prabhupada so kindly offers encouragement for anyone in any condition of life to advance in spiritual life. Of course, Prabhupada so kindly established temples all over the world with Deities, devotee association, prasadam and a variety of transcendental programs and engagements by which to make rapid progress in Krishna Consciousness; but sometimes due to circumstances, one cannot avail him or herself of such wonderful facilities. Still, Srila Prabhupada is so kind, that he freely extends all encouragement and inspiration for us to prosecute bhakti-yoga anywhere and everywhere.
For example, during a lecture at Harvard University in 1969, Srila Prabhupada explained:
"You can chant anyway, anywhere. Whether you are in the college, whether you’re on the street, whether you are sleeping, lying, or whatever, you can chant. Because God has given you this tongue and you can chant.
"Don’t think that Krishna is for the Indian or for the Hindus. No. Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna. This Krishna is for everyone. For the human being, for the animals -- everyone. So if you think that Krishna is belonging to some particular country or religion, then you can chant your own way. If in your religion, in your scripture, there is any God’s name, you can chant that also. Our only propaganda is that you increase your love of God. And the simple process is to chant this Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. There is no charge for it. There is no loss on your part. There is no inconvenience on your part. At any moment, at any place. There is no restriction. So why don’t you take advantage of this great boon to the human society?
"In whatever position you are, either you are a student or a lawyer or something else, you can chant Hare Krishna and realize yourself. We don’t recommend that you change your position. That is not our recommendation. But if you can be fully devoted in Krishna consciousness, that is very nice."
(Srila Prabhupada lecture at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, December 24, 1969)
As a personal example, I can relate a small story in this regard. As a teenager, I was attending an alternative High School in Winnipeg, Canada. At the time, there was no temple in that particular city, but I had heard about "Hare Krishna" through the poetry of Allen Ginsberg (Indian Journals), via the Magical Mystery Tour album by The Beatles, through the Broadway Musical Hair, and by reading about the movement in Rolling Stone magazine and through some Back to Godhead magazines which I had purchased at a local head shop. I was fascinated, but there was no one around who could explain or elucidate upon the subject matter in person. So I started to correspond with the secretary of Krishna Consciousness in Los Angeles. He very kindly took me under his wing, sent me some chanting (japa)beads, a few altar photos and various instructions on how to offer my food and practice Krishna Consciousness at home while I completed my studies at High School. I humbly set up a makeshift altar in my room and regularly offered some food and water to a picture of Lord Krishna -- including acorns, flowers, twigs, leaves and even stones! Eventually I purchased a copy of the early edition of Bhagavad-gita As It Is, and proudly took it to school every day, which soon became my personal Bible (replacing my tattered copies of The Dhammapada andTheEgyptian Book of the Dead). In fact, it caught the attention of my High School principal, who requested that I take a walk with him and explain just what in the world I was getting myself into! It seemed pretty weird to him, to say the least. But his interest was piqued, and so began my first awkward and simple preaching attempts.
In the beginning he challenged me: "Why not chant 'Coca-cola, Coca cola...' instead of 'Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna...'" Surely the results would be the same he surmised. But I had read some of Srila Prabhupada's books beforehand and therefore came prepared. l replied that in fact the mantra or chanting had to be strictly authorized by Vedic authorities handed down in disciplic sucession from time immemorial to a pure devotee of Krishna. The Vedic mantras were strictly authorized -- like the mailbox on the street which was authorized by the government. It's not that one can just post letters in any old box, but they had to be placed there by the postal system, otherwise the letters would never get to their respective destinatons. Despite my bumbling efforts at explaining the basics of Krishna Conscious philosophy, he seemed rather convinced and requested that I write some essays on the topic. Luckily, my principal was a little impressed to the point where he even tried chanting Hare Krishna himself, and soon granted me permission to leave High School early, so that I could strike out and look for a Hare Krishna temple, since he agreed that it was my true calling in life. Years later, I learned that my favorable principal had died prematurely, but at least I was gratified to know that he had chanted the holy names of Krishna and had graciously sent me on my way to begin a new life of Krishna Consciousness.
Additionally, just after leaving High School, word got around town that I was going to join Srila Prabhupada's movement, and lo and behold, my best friend's father (a lawyer) called me on the telephone and said that he needed to see me urgently. I agreed, and he came to my door in haste. "Here," he said, "please take this. I want you to have it because I believe in what you're doing." He handed me a crumpled fifty dollar bill -- a whole lot in those days. Sadly, I heard just a short while later that he had committed suicide. But somehow or other, he gave a donation towards Krishna's service before he departed from this world.
The point of relating these stories about my humble beginnings in Krishna Consciousness is to share my tiny experience that once having begun the process of devotional service, Krishna will reciprocate and help clear away the obstacles to one's spiritual progress. So I heartily recommend to all sincere aspirants to begin your Krishna Consciousness without delay. You can start by setting up your own altar with a few pictures of Srila Prabhupada, Lord Caitanya, and Sri Sri Radha-Krishna. Chant Hare Krishna sincerely and regularly, and everything else will follow.
Included below are photos of my own simple altar which has accompanied me around the world for more than 30 years. (By Krishna's causeless mercy, Srila Prabhupada's murti at the top of this page also graces my altar.) As I've resided in a number of countries in which there are no temples, this humble altar has been my refuge and protection not only in regular life, but also in some very dangerous situations. Srila Prabhupada has stated:
"Anyone can adopt this simple method. There is no expenditure, there is no tax, nor is there any need to build a very big church or temple. Anyone, anywhere, can sit down on the road or beneath a tree and chant the Hare Krishna mantra and worship God."
(Srila Prabhupada lecture, London's Conway Hall, November, 1969)
So this is how it all began for me. After first hearing the chanting of Hare Krishna from Allen Ginsberg, I would go down to the local river bank every day during lunch break at school and sit beneath a tree and chant the holy names of Krishna. Later, when I purchased the Radha Krishna Temple Album when it first came out on L.P. format (long before CD's and the Internet), I connected with Srila Prabhupada through the chanting of his sincere disciples and the beautiful photo of Prabhupada on the back cover. From then on, I was hooked. Srila Prabhupada changed my life for the better forever -- and he can do the same for you too.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

"Radharani is presented, the original pleasure potency, always absorbed in thought of Krishna. So anyone who comes before Radharani to serve Krishna, oh, She becomes so pleased, 'Oh, here is a devotee of Krishna.' She immediately recommends, 'Krishna, oh, here is a devotee. He is better than Me.' This is Radharani. I may be a, not devotee. I may be most fallen rascal. But if I try to reach Krishna through Radharani, then my business is successful. Therefore we should worship Radharani first. That is our business. Instead of offering directly one flower to Krishna, you just put it in the hands of Radharani: 'My mother Radharani, Jagan-mata, if you kindly take this flower and offer it to Krishna.' 'Oh,' Radharani says, 'Oh, you have brought a flower?' Krishna said, patram puspam phalam toyam yo me bhaktya prayaccati (Bg. 9.26), but don't try to offer Krishna directly. Just offer through Radharani. It will be very much appreciated by Radharani."

If death takes place, let it take here.
There is nothing to be said now.
Whatever I have to speak,
I have spoken in my books.
Now you try to
understand it and continue your endeavor.
Whether I am present or not
present, it doesn’t matter.
As Krishna is living eternally, similarly,
living being also lives eternally.
But
"One who has done service to the Lord lives forever.”
So you have been taught to serve Krishna, and with Krishna
we’ll live eternally.
Our life is eternal.
A temporary disappearance of this
body doesn’t matter.
Body is meant for disappearance.
So live forever by serving KRSNA .
