Jahnava Nitai Das
Born in a family of Vaishnavas and disciples of Sri A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, I began my spiritual studies at a very young age under the guidance of various Vedic teachers in a traditional Gurukula. Living in the Gurukula (which literally means "house of the spiritual master") gave me the opportunity to follow a rigorous sadhana of spiritual practices, helping to fix me on the proper path in life.
Living a life of austerity and penance, I grew up surrounded by many wonderful devotees, and was constantly engaged in the study of the ancient Vedic scriptures.
After completing my traditional Vedic studies, I spent several years traveling throughout India, more fully appreciating the spiritual education I had received. During my travels throughout India I have received spiritual guidance from countless saints and gurus, to whom I am eternally indebted.
Under the direction of one such guru I founded an Ashram for the purpose of propagating the teachings of Lord Krishna as taught in Bhagavad Gita. Feeling an intense spiritual debt to Sri A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada for his instrumental role in spreading Krishna consciousness to the western world, I chose to name the ashram after him and dedicated its activities to his divine memory; thus it came to be known as "Bhaktivedanta Ashram".
I view the ashram as a humble attempt to help bring about the respiritualization of human society by providing a systematic education for all in the ancient knowledge of the Vedas. At the Ashram we especially focus on educating the youth in spiritual matters, as they are the foundation and future of our society.
In recent years the Ashram has begun a number of projects, such as the Bhaktivedanta Ashram Food Relief program, which feeds thousands of needy individuals every month in India.
In 1998 we started this website as a means to spread spiritual teachings throughout the world through the use of modern technologies via the internet. I felt that the powerful medium of the internet could be used in a positive and constructive manner, and what is more positive and beneficial than the spiritual knowledge of India? With that in mind we started this project known as IndiaDivine, and slowly it has developed to become an effective and popular tool for positive spiritual growth.
At present I am working towards two main goals, as follows:
1) To expand the Bhaktivedanta Ashram's food relief program throughout India so that the only hunger existing in society will be the hunger for spiritual knowledge.
2) To build a temple dedicated to Sri Maha-sudarshana for freeing people from the eighteen kinds of material sufferings, thereby allowing them to engage in Krishna-bhakti without material disturbance.
For more information about the activities we are carrying out, you can visit our page on the Bhaktivedanta Ashram.
Yours in service,
Jahnava Nitai Das
