JAMMU, INDIA, February 20, 2004: A three-month, free Sanskrit language
course organized by Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (Deemed University) was
inaugurated today at Shri Ranbir Campus by Dr. Jitender Udhampuri, Director
Radio Kashmir Jammu. Many distinguished Sanskrit lovers and enthusiasts and
participants, besides the Principal, staff and students of the campus, were
present on the occasion. In his inaugural address, Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri
said that Sanskrit is a very important for developing a thorough knowledge
of our grand culture. "It enjoys the unique status of being the mother of
the majority of Indian languages. So, every Indian has a natural craving to
learn this language," he said, but regretted that our modern social and
educational system has failed to make study of this language financially
satisfying. He congratulated the Sansthan for having understood the longing
of the people and made arrangements for satisfying a long-felt need. In his
