(VARNAS).

"Of all the establishments of Numa", says Plutarch, "no one is more
highly prized than his distribution of the people into colleges
according to trade and craft." From these words we should infer that
the first well-known Italian corporations date from the seventh
century B.C., but some authors, whose contention is founded on a
text of Florus, have claimed that Servius Tullius, and not Numa, was
the founder of the Roman colleges of artisans (e.g., Heineccius, "De
collegiis et corporibus opificum", 138). Whatever may be the truth
on this point, it is certain that the collegia opificum existed in
the sixth century B.C., because they were incorporated in the
constitution of Servius Tullius which remained in force until 241
B.C. There were but few of these corporations in the Republic, but
their numbers increased under the emperors; in Rome alone there were
in the third century more than thirty colleges, private and public
(Theodosian Code, XIII and XIV). The latter were four in number: the
navicularii, who supplied Rome with provisions, the bakers, the pork
butchers, and the calcis coctores et vectores, who supplied Rome
with lime for building. The members of these corporations received a
fixed salary from the State.

Among the private colleges were numbered the argentarii, or bankers,
the negotiatores vini, or wine merchants, the medici, or physicians,
and the professores, or teachers. On the whole it might be said that
the collegia were prosperous until the end of the third century
B.C., but in the course of the next century they began to show signs
of decline. The few privileges they enjoyed had ceased to be a
compensation for their responsibilities to the State, and it was
only by the most drastic measures that the last emperors succeeded
in keeping the artisans in their collegia.

BELOW IS A SCHOLAR'S COMMENT ABOUT THE 'UUR' TOWN IN SOME OF THE
EARLIEST CIVILIZATIONS

The word `uur' (town) almost certainly goes back to the earliest
civilizations in Mesopotamia — one of the numerous indications that
the basic features of civilization (i.e. urban life) in the Indus
region diffused there from what are now Iraq and Iran. Probably
Dravidian languages also had antecedents to some extent in those
regions. This is the thesis of a book Dravidians and the West
(Lahovery), and though it makes bolder assumptions than would be
allowed by the strict procedures of many historical linguists,
nevertheless it presents overwhelming suggestions. If it is
accepted that the hundreds of native American languages branched
off from three main stems (Greenberg), and if similar efforts
showing that all the languages of North Asia and Europe could have
branched off from a few prototype languages, then the above
suggestions about the origin of Dravidian languages should also be
accepted.

LET US LOOK AT THE EARLY NORTHERN EUROPEAN MANIFESTATIONS OF THESE
ANCIENT PUR / UUR ETC. FEDERATIONS, AND HOW THEY WERE RELATED TO THE
WORSHIP OF PURUSHA AS BRAHMAN DARU JAGANNATHA.

THE BUR AND DUN CULTURE... REGARDING ANCIENT IRISH ERIN (ARYAN)
VAISHNAVA-RELATED 'PAGAN' TRADITIONS
Prehistoric ley-line sites and later temple-cities, and still later
Catholic worship is associated with the designation BUR etc.(as in
CANTER-BURY, SALIS-BURY etc.), which is cognate with Sanskrit PUR
etc. (see my PURUSHA CITIES chart). Many of these same sites may
also have ancient names including the word origin of TOWN, as Gaelic
DUN, Welsh DIN, as used in Augusto-dunum, Camalo-dunum etc. The
modern English suffix TON or DON / DOM on the end of TOWN names is
from DUN etc., all related to Sanskrit DHAM, DHAMA etc. Both PUR and
DHAM are completely theological terms associated with the civilizing
social order of the sacramental social body of the Rig Vedic Purusha
Sukta sacrifice. A PURA of PUR-USHA is also His DHAM. One of
Krishna's Names is DHAMANE, meaning 'Lord of the Dhama'. In Latin,
this is DOMINUS. A BUR IS A PURA, AND A TOWN IS A DHAMA.

DRU is the root of Druid. But the Druids were not mere tree
worshipers as has been speculated. TREE and DRU are related to the
Sanskrit DARU, but the significance is that Lord Jagannatha AS
PURUSHA VIRATA RUPA was worshiped whereever there was a PUR or DHAM
or ASYLA, and at many locations He was worshiped as BRAHMAN DARU.
TREE = DRU = DARU.

His 'Pillar' or 'Tree Trunk' Form was at times extremely popular in
the ancient world. ON THIS, SEE MY RESEARCH ON THE WORSHIP OF
JAGANNATHA BALADEVA AND SUBHADRA IN PALESTINE AND EGYPT, IN
THEIR 'TREE TRUNK' OR 'PILLAR' DJED / TET FORMS. [ PURUSHA WILLING,

culture evidence is taken together, it appears that the DRUIDS were
specifically fire priests (HELIOS GREEK AND JEWISH FIRE PRIEST
PROPHETAS = PUROHITAS) of the Purusha Sukta Tradition, and that they
worshiped Purusha as Brahman DARU, hence, they were called DARU-ids
or DRUIDS.

SATTVIC AND TAMASIC WORSHIP...WHAT ABOUT THE DESCRIPTIONS OF DRUID
SACRIFICES ?
All cultures have a shadow side. Vedic culture is shadowed by the
evils of so-called 'Left Hand Tantrism' (LHT), which is full of
truly horrifically evil ideas and practices. One the the main
corruptions of LHT is the practice of human sacrifice, which is
performed in a mockery of the orthodox Brahminical Rig Vedic
Sacrifices. The mundane mentality of the LHTs caused them to
interpret PURUSHA in the Purusha Sukta as 'MAN'. Thus
their 'highest' act of worship was human sacrifice. You can be sure
that there WERE real sattvic brahmins in the BUR / DUN culture, but
you can also be sure that there were the tamasic LHT shadow-side
priests as well. As in Greece, where the PSEUDO-DIONYSIAN BACCHAE
or MAENADS represented the shadow side, and elsewhere, the LHTs
performed their abominable rites of human sacrifice and raw flesh
eating, and promoting the evils of intoxication, illicit perverse
sex and organized crime / extortion / gambling etc.

Every 'Vedic' culture was (is) plagued by LHT. Devotees of the Lord
need to learn to see the global battle in terms of the ennobling,
civilizing, sattvic impetus versus the degrading, chaotic, tamasic
force. The history of religion and civilization is not just about
different groups of devotees destroying each other out of prejudice,
ignorance, fear and hate, it is about sattvic versus tamasic
realization and behavior. The battle-line is not drawn cleanly
between denominational lines, or religious lines or racial or
cultural lines. The battle-line runs through every individual
human 'heart', family, worship community, village, nation and
community of nations. Each local, regional, cultural, linguistic and
global faith community has its polarized extremists, its
inclusivists and exclusivists, its relative saints and hypocritical
sinners. What we need to do is to step back from our religio-
cultural milieu of birth or adoption to take a long-range and
extreme time-depth INTERDISCIPLINARY global view of the history of
religion. When we do this, a vast number of assumptions are
completely overturned by the obvious facts. Without such a deep and
broad view, we cannot understand the history of civilization in
Europe. Ethno-centrism and and specialty / discipline etc. myopia
will blind us to the unifying whole truth of our collective human
religious experience as worshipers of PURUSHA and HIS SHAKTI
(SHEKINAH / TYCHE).

So as both Christian and Pagan scholars attempt to recover the pre-
Christian histories of Europe, they will need to avoid Neo-Pagan
anti-Catholic prejudice in order to get at the whole truth. If
Pagans from the Northern traditions approach their history with an
anti-Roman bias, they will not be able to understand that the mixed
elements of Northern and Southern European Pagan religious
traditions preserved in Catholicism reflect not a Catholic
appropriation of their traditions, but a pre-Catholic unity of those
traditions in the Proto-Catholic Polieus Asyla Federations. There
is a vast treasure of ancient pre-Christian Gaelic and Welsh
spirituality preserved, alive and well within Catholicism. Pagans
wanting to understand their ancient traditions should study Celtic
Catholicism for instance to understand the vast treasure of pre-
Catholic Celtic spirituality preserved in it. For example, the
entire Roman Rite Catholic Church performs a Druid-related PURUSHA
AGNI-HOTRA LIGHTING OF THE SACRED FIRE on EASTER VIGIL. Some
ascribe this widespread Roman Rite practice to the influence of
Saint Patrick, who according to tradition was allowed to light the
Sattvic Druid High Priest's Sacred Fire. As anciently related
Priests of the same PROPHETA / PUROHITA worship of PURUSHA IN HIS
AGNI HOTRA SACRIFICE, did Saint Patrick and the Druid High Priest
finally come to recognize each other as brothers in the ONE FAITH ?

There are amazing traditions regarding the positive interaction of
Southern European Proto-Catholics and Catholics with the SATTVIC
Druids of the BUR and DUN Culture. The Arthurian Round and many
other great written and oral traditions recount various 'legendary'
ages of interaction between Catholicism and the indigenous Erin /
Aryan Bur or Dun Culture. Did you know that some French peasants
attributed the prophecy of the coming of SAINT JOAN OF ARC to the
Wizard MERLIN of Arthurian fame ? If my body was not disabled, I
could write volumes on the BUR / DUN culture and related prehistoric
LEY-LINE BUR, DUN or ALIS (ASYLA / ASHALLA) sites in the Northern
Isles and Northern Europe alone. (Search for ANCIENT AND PREHISTORIC
SITES AND MONOLITHS ON LEY LINES IN EUROPE.) I will probably not
be able to get these books written, but through articles like this,
I hope to interest others in taking up this study. The Ancient Asyla
Federations were inter-tribal, and inter-racial alliances of Purusha
(POLIEUS) and Shakti (TYCHE) worshiping communities, cities, city-
states, and nations. All across ancient Europe on LEY LINES there
were federated ASYLA sanctuaries devoted to Krishna-Vishnu as
PURUSHA / POLIEUS. Ancient global Vedic culture was united by these
Purusha worshiping Asyla Federations from century to century.

Ideally Vaishnavas from Irish, French or German etc. backgrounds
should take-up the study of these connections for the great
reconciliation and benefit of all. But unfortunately, due to
prejudice against the Judeo-Catholic Traditions, Some Vaishnavas, in
the Hare Krishna Movement especially, are on the offensive against
Catholicism specifically and Christianity in general. Having
adopted some extreme prejudices from the Neo-Pagan Movement, these
devotees are now unable to study the Judeo-Christian Tradition
objectively. I am therefore trying to remedy this situation
somewhat, by encouraging devotees on all sides, Vaishnava, Neo-
Pagan, Protestant and Catholic to look at this astounding evidence
for our once and future unity.
