RE: [world-vedic] Cow Protection - the gift of Vedic knowledge
Mark,
Please accept my respects.
Do you know Balabhadra Prabhu (Mr. Dove) and Mother Chaya of the
International Society for Cow Protection? They have been working to set an
example of the exact thing you are inquiring about. I am personal friends
with them both and they are first class people who are working out of New
Vrindaban. They are a tremendous resource for you to contact. If you need
more information please let me know and I will get it to you.
Hoping this finds you earnestly engaged in the service of Lord
Krishna.

Subject: [world-vedic] Cow Protection - the gift of Vedic knowledge
Good day,
My name is Mark Chatburn and I represent a group
called VEDA - the Vegetarian Enviromental Development
Association. We are working in partnership with ISKCON
and IVU (International Vegetarian Union) groups to
formulate a commercially viable model of cow
protection.
The name we have given to this endeavour is
Protection Farms - for the profitable lifetime
protection of farm animals.
Its nature is essentially secular to appeal to
business investors and consumers alike from all walks
of life.
Mahatma Ghandi claimed that cow protection was the
greatest gift that Hinduism can give to the world.
Yet, although the percentage of vegetarians in
countries like the UK has increased to 10%, there is
still no system of farm animal protection in place in
the developed countries. This is due to history and
the fact that the new paradigms have yet to manifest
themselves on the physical plane.
It can not be good enough to just be vegetarian, one
must also consume from and support a farming system
that has at its heart the moral values that
vegetarianism demands. To consume milk products form
the same system that produces meat, involves the
compromise of allowing slaughter within the
food-providing process. Also, crops produced via
intensive agriculture or organic agriculture relies on
the petro-industrial framework, not on a simpler
process using intermediate draft-powered technology.
I enter this discussion forum in the hope that a
debate on this issue can be engendered that will
ultimately lead to the implimentation of this farming
system - Protection Farms - throughout the world.
Thus, along with the chanting of the names of the Lord
in every town and village, so too will be heard the
mooing of protected cows and other lifetime protected
farm animals.
Yours in the best of faith,
Mark chatburn - founder VEDA

RE: [world-vedic] Cow Protection - the gift of Vedic knowledge
Thank you Mayasvara dasa,
Yes, I know Bala and Chaya from ISCOWP, but they are
not interested in a farming system for the profitable
lifetime protection of farm animals, only in
Prabhupada´s vision where profit is no a goal. I am on
the cow conference, yet very frustrated as ISKCON
devotees will do business with anything except cows.
All Iskcon farms are loss making, yet a business
approach that I have been putting forward has been
rejected by them as it is a deviation of Prabhupada's
instructions - as if selling Hong Kong paintings or
running a farm in debt is not.
Yours, Mark

RE: [world-vedic] Cow Protection - the gift of Vedic knowledge
Mark,
Please accept my respects.
I am sorry to hear that Balabhadra was not receptive to your ideas.
I think you have a good vision and you are probably 50 years ahead of your
time... perhaps more. But you are certainly on the right track. I agree
with your frustrations regarding ISKCON, but somehow, despite the prevailing
immaturity, and in some cases incompetence, we are compelled to push ahead
and do all we can to reconcile past ills and forge new standards for the
benefit of all the lost conditioned souls.
If I can be of any further service to you let me know.
Hoping this finds you earnestly engaged in the service of Lord
Krishna.

RE: [world-vedic] Cow Protection - the gift of Vedic knowledge
Dear Robert,
It is very nice to hear an appreciative voice out
there, and from the ISKCON perspective. If you are
truly interested, I suggest you get on the cow
conference through ISCOWP and help me push the agenda.
Yes, I do seem to be ahead of my time, but Prabhupada
was light years ahead. The conference is becoming
receptive to my perspective, yet to change a paradigm
always brings resistance. Therefore it needs those who
can see the vision to expouse it to the source of the
old paradigm. That is the cow conferencers like Bala,
HKDD, Syam, etc.
So, feel free to help.
Mark
