Some Thoughts on the Kala Sarpa Yoga

Someone asked about the Kala Sarpa Yoga; I just got
this email today. They ask:

The book, Light on Life, gives a very good discussion
concerning this little written about combination; so
to, does B.V. Raman's 300 Important Combinations. I
would kindly ask the sender of this email to please
refer to those sources; but, in the meantime, please
allow me to say this...

The KSY is formed, in the traditional sense, when all
of the planets are situated between Rahu and Ketu, in
that order; in other words, let's say that you have
Rahu in the 1st house, and Ketu in the 7th house; all
of the rest of the planets would have to be in a house
by itself, for this yoga to be formed. One of the
reasons why this yoga is said to be most
inasupicscious, is because, when all of the planets
are placed in this way, transiting Rahu and Ketu will
pass over each planet in constant sucession during the
native's life, causing, according to the traditions,
constant troubles.

Others say that this yoga can be formed when all of
the planets are between Ketu and Rahu, the logica
being that Ketu stings with its tail; and still others
say, that if a planet falls outside of the Rahu-Ketu
axis, even if they are in the same house, then KSY is
not formed; and finally, there are those that say,
that if all of the planets are placed in one or two
houses between the Rahu-Ketu axis, KSY is not formed.
As you can see, there is about as much confusion as to
what constitutes the formation of this combo, as the
Nodes themselves, who represent confusion and chaos.

Being a Jyotishi that firmly beleives in keeping
Jyotish in pace with the Times, I have gone out and
updated both the formation, and the meaning of this
yoga; in my view, as long as all of the planets are
between the Rahu-Ketu axis, on either side, forms KSY;
it doesn't matter whether one of the planets isn't
within the degree axis of Rahu-Ketu either; as long as
the planet, like all of the rest of the planets are
between Rahu and Ketu, then KSY, in view, is extant.

>From my intense study and observation of this
combination, I have concluded that the KSY suggests
compulsion and upheaval in terms of the house that the
Nodes inhabit, and can certainly be seen whenever the
planetary periods of either of the Nodes commences. I
have seen many, many, many charts featuring this yoga,
and have sen the above in operation and working.

AS with anything else in AStrology, ultimately in the
end, it's an Art, and as such, certain combos are
going to stronger than others, even though they maybe
the same; such is the case with the KSY. While I have
seen of the variations of the KSY manifest themes of
obsession, compulsion and upheaval, it will great vary
depending on the strength of the yoga and the
formation of it, as outlined above.

Going back to the book, Light on Life, in the Example
Charts Section, they break down the chart of writer
Anais Nin, who had, if I recall correctly, KSY. Her
obession with sex, relationships, and the like
certainly fall into the Profile that I have suggested
for the Kala Sarpa Yoga.

I hope this has answered some concerns about the KSY.
