KAlathizhikulathu chandAlanAnAlum mEladhavar adhanin mEnmaithE
KOlakkurungudivAzh mAyan kuraikazharkku AlAvar perumkudiyil vAzhvar pirappu
- Divyakavi Pillai Perumal Ayyangar in 108 Thirupathi AndhAdhi

If a person has been blessed by Thirukkurungudi Perumal, even if he is born in chandala kulam (so called lower caste), he still will be leading a life of very high cadre, even higher than that of Maharishis.

Known as Thirukkurungudi, this beautiful pandiya nattu Divya Desam is located about 27 miles from Tirunelveli, and about 8 miles from Swayamvyakta Kshetram, Vaanamaamalai. It is also called as Vamana Kshetram, Dakshina Badri, Siddhashramam and Kurundhapuri. The Perumal here is known as Sundara Paripooranan (One who is full of kalyAna gunas), Vadivazhagiya Nambi, Thirukkurungudi Nambi, and more than anything else as SriVaishnava Nambi. The unique beauty of this Perumal is the varna kalApam (colours, unlike other Perumals). Thayar ThirunAmam is Kurungudivalli NachiyAr. Utsava Moorthy of Thayar is always with Perumal, unlike most of the other Divya Desams. The Divya Desam is located on the hill side of Mahendragiri.

Five States of Existance
Here is the representation of Perumal for each of His 5 states:

Nindra Nambi - Vibhavam
Irutha Nambi - Param
Kidantha Nambi - Archai
ThiruppArkadal Nambi - vyUham
Malai Nambi - AntaryAmin

The name of the vimAnam is ‘Pancha Ketaka vimAnam’. It represents two facts. One is it houses all the five states of Perumal in this Divya Desam, the second fact is that it houses the Perumal who helps us control our 5 indriyas. The pushkarani is called as Nambi aaru, ThiruppArkadal, Sindhu nadhi. More than any other name it is called as ‘Karandam Adu Poigai’ by Azhwars.

Nambi and NampAduvan - Kaisika Puranam
This Perumal used to listen to the ghAnam of a great bhkatA called NampAduvAn. He was born in chandala kulam. He used to play veenai and sing on Perumal every day. The entire episode of his kaimkaryam to Perumal, and eventually getting the Grace of Nambi has been narrated by VarAha Perumal Himself to BhoomiDEvi ThAyar in varAha purAnam. This is known as "Kaisika Puranam". Swamy Parasara Bhattar has written vyAkyAnam for this, and this is recited in front of Perumal on Kaisika ekAdasi (falls on Karthigai sukla paksham)

Nambi's relationship with ParAnkusa, ParakAla, Yativarargal
Thirukkurungudi Nambi has a unique state of relationship with our Azhwar and Acharya gOshti. Nambi was the one who was born as Nammazhwar, who is the leader of the Prapanna gOshti. Azhwars gOshti ends with Kaliyan. Apporpriately, Kaliyan's days on this earth also ended with the last days spent in kaimkaryam to Thirukkurungudi Nambi.

Nambi as Vaishna Nambi
Another strong link to our sampradAyam is Nambi getting the upadEsam and Thiruman kAppu from Swamy Ramanujar.

Nayakis fall in love with Nambi

KazhiyamikkadhOr kAdhalal ival endru.....(TVM 5.5.10)
Parankusa nayaki falls in love with Thirukkurungudi Nambi, defeated by His kalyana gunas and beautiful thirumEni. Generally as the days pass by for lovers is separation, both of them will forget about the love. In Azhwar's kAdhal on Nambi, it is the inverse effect. Parankusa nayaki's love keeps increasing with separation from Nambi.

.....kuRuNgudikkE ennai uyththidumiN (PT 9.5)
Parakala nayaki cannot bear the separation from Nambi either. She herself explains her state of distress and requests everyone around her to take her Thirukkurungudi. Eventually, Kaliyan went and performed kaimkaryam to Nambi and got the nityakaimkarya prApti.

Nambi shows the path to SriVaikuntam even in Samsara
arivariaya pirAnai ......vaittanavar Azhkadal gnAlathullE! (TVM 5.5.11)

samsArathil irundhE Vaishnavargal - Just by singing the 10 pasurams of Nammazhwar on Nambi and realizing that Thirukkurungudi is even superior to SriVaikuntam, one can be considered equal to nityasuris even in this world of samsara.

vAzhakkandOm vandhukAnmin....
Thirumangai mannan fell at Vadivazhagiya Nambi and lives there eternally and worhsips the Lord in place of swAmi nAm-AzhwAr -Thiruvadi thozhal in adhyayana utsavam. The final journey towards parama-padham is on granting vision to kaliyan who leaves this world permanently having the vision of Nambi-malai nambi.

That Nambi had indeed elevated Him and escalated him to exalted level is crystal clear from the words "Hey SrEvaishNavites.Come on! See here. This is life . This ThirukkuRunkudi has given the real vAzhvu' and that is kaliyan for you having presented his jIvAtmA at the lotus feet of Thirukkurungudi nambi proclaiming to one and all
