Dear Sri. Bagavathas and Friends:
The Samprokshanam at Sri Adhi Jagannatha Perumal Thirukkoil at Thirupullani,
one of the 108 Divya Desams, is about to take place on Feb 6th or 13th, 2003
For those who are not familiar with the temple here is a brief write-up
about the shetram.
Thirupullani, otherwise known as Dharbasayanam or Pullaranya Shetram, is
one of the most sacred Vaishnava temple and is located about 5 miles from
Ramanadhapuram. The presiding deity of the renowned temple is Sri. Adhi
Jagannatha Perumal with His consort Sri. Padmasani Thayar. As per Valmiki
Ramayana, Sri. Rama came here and worshipped Sri. Adhi Jagannatha Perumal
and secured a divine bow to fight Ravana. It is here that Sri. Rama has
laid for three days on kusha grass facing the sea and invoked the aid of
Samudhra Raja for building the stone damn for safe passage to Sri Lanka
along with the vanara sainyam. Samudhra Raja and Sri. Vibeshana with his
consort surrendered at the feet of Sri Rama and hence known as Saranagathi
sthala. The Shetram is glorified by 20 holy verses of Thirumangai Azhwar in
his “Periya Thirumozhi”.
We are fortunate to have visited the five sannadhis several times to have
the Dharsan of Sri Dharbasayana Raman, Sri Adhi Jagannatha Perumal, Sri
Pattabi Raman , Sri Padmasani Thayar and Sri Andal. It is with divine grace
and the acharya krupai that the Samprokshanam of this temple is scheduled
to take place in Thai masam of next year. I appeal to each one of you to
contribute as much as you can for this noble cause and be subject to the
abundant grace of Sri Rama.
With the grace of our current and poorva acharyas, the temple authorities
have drawn detailed plans to celebrate it in a grand scale with all the
rituals and prescribed homas, divaya prabandha goshti, etc. It has been
estimated that the expenses will run anywhere from 20-25 lakhs of rupees
($40-50,000). They are working round the clock collecting funds from
various sources within India. We’ve been requested to seek participation
and contributions from asthikas in the US to defray at least part of the
costs.
Below, you will see a list of a few specific items with cost estimates.
We’ve also indicated the committment that we have thus far. We appeal to
all of you to be part of this kainkaryam and be subject to HIS grace.
You could offer any amount that you like for this Kainkaryam. We’d like to
have your contributions by Jan 10th, the latest, so that we could arrange to
have the funds delivered by Jan 15th.
Please make the check payable to "The Secretary - Sri. Padmasani Thayar
Kaingarya Sabha, Thiruppullani " and mail it to the address below. We’ll
consolidate and deliver them personally and make sure that everyone receives
acknowledgement and receipt from the temple along with Perumal Samprokshana
