Default Hanuman\'s Victory Song - 11-21-2003, 09:06 AM

In the Sundara Kanda, there are two poignant places where
Hanuman, while destroying the Asoka Vani and kiling several Rakshasa warriors, declares his identity and 'victory song' as it were. The significance of this song lies in the fact that it occurs verbatim in two places in the Sundara Kanda and once in the Yuddha Kanda.
I am giving it below:

Jayatyatibalo Ramo Lakshmanashcha mahabalah
Raja Jayati Sugrivo Raghavenabhipalitah
Dasoham kosalendrasya ramasyaklishtakarmanah
Hanuman shatrusainyanam nihanta Marutatmajah
Na Ravanasahasram me yuddhe pratibalam bhavet
Shilabhistu praharatah padapaishcha sahasrashah
Ardayitva puriim Lankam Abhivadya cha maithilim
Samriddhartho Gamishyami Mishatam Sarvarakshasam

These verses were very inspiring to me. Let us pray that the whole Hindu community imbibes the infinite energy underlying this song!

The below is a bare literal translation to English that does not fully capture the power and strength underlying the original Sanskrit verses. To appreciate the verses better I'd suggest that the esteemed visitors read the Valmiki Ramayan in Sanskrit. There's a saying that even by reading the Valmiki Ramayana one becomes a sanskrit Visharada (scholar)!

Translation:

That Rama of Supreme Strength Wins always. So do Lakshmana of mighty Strength. That King Sugriva, protected by Raghava always wins. I am a servant of Rama of mighty deeds, the ruler of Kosala. I am Hanuman by name, the son of the wind God and the demolisher of enemy forces. Even a thousand Ravanas cannot stand against me in fight. Even as all the Rakshasas look on, I am going to mortify the city of Lanka, by beating it with thousands of mountain peaks and trees. After doing that, and after saluting Maithili, I will go back, my purpose fully satisfied.
