The Chakra Series 1: MULADHARA CHAKRA
Those meditating on Her who shines within the Mula-Chakra, with the
luster of 10 million suns,
They become masters of Speech, rulers among humanity, and adepts in
all kinds of learning.
They become ever free from all diseases, and their inmost Spirit
becomes full of great gladness.
Pure of disposition, and with deep and musical words, they serve the
foremost of the Deities.
-- From the "Sat-Chakra-Nirupana," Verse 13
************************
"The Muladhara [mula = root; dhara = support] is a lotus of four
petals. The petals are red, and have the letters Va, Sha (palatal),
Sha (cerebral), Sa, in colors of gold.
"In the pericarp is the square Dharaa-mandala surrounded by eight
spears, and within it and in the lower part is the Dharaa-
Bija, 'Lam,' who has four arms and is seated on the elephant
Airaavata. He is of yellow color, and holds the thunderbolt [vajra]
in his hands.
"Inside the Bindu of the Dharaa-Bija is the Child Brahma, who is red
in color, and has four hands with which he holds the staff [danda],
the gourd [kamandalu], the Rudraksha rosary, and makes the gesture
which dispels fear [abhaya-mudra]. He has four faces.
"In the pericarp there is a red lotus, on which sits the presiding
Divinity of the Chakra [chakraadhisthaatri], the Shakti DAKINI. She
is red and has four arms, and in Her hands are the spear [shula],
skull-staff [khatvanga], sacrificial sword [khadga], and drinking
cup [chashaka].
"In the pericarp there is also the lightning-like triangle, inside
which are Kaama-Vaayu and Kaama-Bija [Kleem], both of which are red.
[This] is the `female' triangle or Yoni, known as Traipura [the
Shakti-pitha], in which is set the `male' Shiva-linga, known as
Svayambhu [of the shape and color of a young leaf]. Above and round
this Linga is Kundalini coiled three and a half times; and above
this last upstands, in the top of the Linga, Chit-kalaa [another
form of Kundalini]."
-- From "The Serpent Power," by Sir John Woodroffe, 1919
************************
"There are seven spinning wheels of energy in you. If you pay
attention to the actions given below carefully and remember them,
you will experience these spinning wheels. ...
"1. Muladhara wheel. There is a square wheel between anus and the
vagina or the base of the penis. There is a rose color triangle in
it. In its center there is a red phallus moving up and down emitting
white sparks of semen continuously. There is the Kundalini Shakti,
the Serpent Power coiled round the phallus and drinking the semen
being ejaculated. This is the starting point of the supreme energy
of the cosmos manifesting creation. Imagine a sound "Lang"
[transcribed as `Lam' by Woodroffes above], starting from this
square wheel and rising up to the crown of the head. When you are
pronouncing this sound, the upper part of the tongue touches the
deep upper palette. You must feel that touch. Do like this for all
the other sounds in other wheels [as well]. ..."

Re: The Chakra Series 1: MULADHARA CHAKRA
As an amendment to my previous post -- for the sake of completeness
and as an aid to those who might find this information useful --
I've decided to post the full description of Mulaadhara Chakra from
the "Sat-Chakra-Nirupana," rather than just an excerpt. I will do so
for each Chakra in future installments in this series as well:
MULAADHARA CHAKRA
4. Now we come to the [Mula]adhara Lotus. It is attached to the
mouth of the Susumna, and is placed below the genitals and above the
anus. It has four petals of crimson hue. Its head hangs downward. On
its petals are the four letters from Va to Sa, of the shining color
of gold.
5. In this Lotus is the square region of Prthivi [the Earth
element], surrounded by eight shining spears [facing the eight
points of the compass]. It is of a shining yellow color, and
beautiful like lightning, as is also the Bija Dhara which is within.
6. Ornamented with four arms and mounted on the King of Elephants
[Airaavata], He carries on His lap the child Creator [Brahma],
resplendant like the young Sun, who has four lustrous arms, and the
wealth of [Indra], whose lotus face is fourfold.
7. Here dwells the Devi Dakini by name; her four arms shine with
beauty, and her eyes are brilliant red. She is resplendant like the
lustre of many Suns rising at one and the same time. She is the
carrier of the revelation of the ever-pure Intelligence.
8. Near the mouth of the Nadi called Vajra, and in the pericarp [of
the Mulaadhara Lotus], there constantly shines the beautifully
luminous and soft, lightning-like triangle which is Kamarupa, and
known as Traipura. There is always and everywhere the Vayu called
Kandarpa, who is of a deeper red than the Bandhujiva flower, and is
the Lord of Beings and resplendant like ten million suns.
9. Inside the triangle is Svayambhu in His Linga-form, beautiful
like molten gold, with His head downwards. He is revealed by
Knowledge [jnaana] and Meditation [dhyaana], and is of the shape and
color of a new leaf. As the cool rays of lightning and of the full
moon charm, so does His beauty. The Deva who resides happily here as
in Kaashi is in forms like a whirlpool.
10. Over [Svayambhu Linga] shines the sleeping Kundalini, fine as
the fibre of the lotus stalk. She is the world-bewilderer, gently
covering the mouth of Brahma-dvaara with Her own mouth. Like the
spiral of the conch-shell, Her shining snake-like form goes three
and a half times round Shiva, and Her lustre is as that of a strong
flash of young strong lightning.
11. Her sweet murmur is like the indistinct hum of swarms of love-
mad bees. She produces melodious poetry and Bandha and all other
compositions in prose or verse in sequence or otherwise in Sanskrit,
Prakrits, and other languages. It is She who maintains all the
beings of the world by means of inhalation and exhalation, and
shines in the cavity of the [Mulaadhara] Lotus like a chain of
brilliant lights.
12. Within [the Svayambhu Linga around which Kundalini is curled]
reigns dominant Para, the Sri-Parameshwari, the Awakener of eternal
knoledge. She is the Omnipotent Kalaa who is wonderfully skilled to
create, and is subtler than the subtlest. She is the receptacle of
that continuous stream of ambrosia which flows from Eternal Bliss.
By Her radience it is that the whole of this Universe and its
Cauldron [Kataaha; the lower half of Brahmaanda] is illumined.
13. Those meditating thus upon Her who shines within the Mula[adhara]
Chakra, with the luster of 10 million suns, they become masters of
speech, rulers among humanity, and adepts in all kinds of learning.
They become ever free from all diseases, and their inmost Spirit
becomes full of great gladness. Pure of disposition, and with deep
and musical words, they serve the foremost of the Deities.

Re: The Chakra Series 1: MULADHARA CHAKRA
Hello Devi Bhakta:
What was the number of your previous post with numbers 1
through 3 in it? Sorry if this is obvious, but I didn't see it on the
last few screens of messages I checked.

Re: The Chakra Series 1: MULADHARA CHAKRA
Hi Mary Ann and Nora ...
Actually, it was a good call; I didn't post the first three verses
of the Sat-Chakra-Nirupana, because they don't specifically describe
any Chakras -- they "set the scene" for the rest, I guess you could
say. In any event, I've posted them below for those of you who'd
like to compile the complete verses.
*** Do allow me to answer of Devi Bhakta's behalf as he is still in
his dreamland.***
That is for sure! lol
Here goes:
SAT-CAKRA-NIRUPANA (DESCRPITION OF THE SIX CENTERS)
NOW I speak of the first sprouting shoot of the Yoga plant, of
complete realization of the Brahman, which isto be achieved
according to the Tantras, by means of the six Chakras and so forth
in their proper order.
1. In the space outside the Meru [spinal column], placed on the left
and the right, are the two Siraas [Nadis], Shashi [i.e. the Moon;
the feminine Nadi, Ida, on the left] and Mihira [i.e. the Sun; the
masculine Nadi, Pingala, on the right]. The Nadi Susumnaa, whose
substance is the threefold Gunas, is in the middle. She is the form
of Moon, Sun, and Fire; Her body, a string of blooming Dhaatuura
flowers, extends from the middle of the Kanda [i.e. Bulb, or Root]
to the Head, and the Vajraa inside Her extends, shining, from the
Genitals to the Head.
2. Inside Her [i.e. inside Vajraa, within the Susumnaa] is Citrinii,
who is lustrous with the lustre of the Pranava [usually interpreted
as "Aum"] and attainable in Yoga by Yogis and Yoginis. Citrinii is
subtle as a spider's thread, and pierces all the Lotuses (Chakras)
that are placed within the backbone, and is pure Intelligence.
Citrinii is beautiful by reason of these Lotuses, which are strung
on Her. Inside Citrinii is the Brahma-nadi, which extends from the
orifice of the mouth of Hara [i.e. Shiva, as the Svayambhu Linga] to
the place beyong, where Aadi-deva [i.e Para-Bindu] is.
3. Cintrinii is beautiful like a chain of lightning and fine like a
lotus fiber, and shines in the minds of the sages. She is extremely
subtle; the awakener of Pure Knowledge; the embodiment of all Bliss,
whose true nature is pure Consciousness [Shuddha-bodha-svabhaavaa].
The Brahma-dvaara [i.e. the entry and exit route of Kundalini in Her
passage to and from Shiva] shines in Her mouth. This place is in the
entrance to the region sprinkled by ambrosia, and is called the Knot
[Granthi-sthaanam], as also the mouth of Susumnaa.
Aum Maatangyai Namahe
