Default Mahishasura Mardini Stotram

Dear Members

Does the above Stotram require any inititation to learn and chant?

I also remember a comment in the group that chanting of the above
Stotram gives the benefit of the entire Chandi.

Would someone please help me.

Ranganath

Respected Members,

I have seen 2 different versions of Mahishasura Mardini Stotram. One version
containing 20 stanzas and other one with 18 stanzas. Further, the order of
stanzas and actual script is also different between the 2 versions. Can someone
clarify ...
1. How there came to be 2 different versions ?? and
2. Who is the author of this powerful Stotram and how this came came to be
revealed ??

Bala Sharanam,
Lalitha.

There are different versions for almost all stotras.
Happens because of the error involved in transmission, I guess.
Some people simply relish interpolating(which is sad) and
adding things which is why extra shlokas are found
Ex: Stories of tantrics trying to hurt Shankaracharya through
physical means or Abichara and what not ..etc etc..

People believe it is authored by Shankaracharya.
