I admire the saint also, he accepted his fate knowing the Lord's decision is multi-branched in terms of benefit and he knows that he has been chosen for that purpose. Yep, whatever it seems in appearance is not necessarily the same in substance. The punishment is his Bhakti, the same fate that Bali Maharaj accepted even when defeated and arrested by Urukrama. Being even minded in Victory and in defeat; that's the way.
