The number of volumes you are talking about depends upon the author and the
publisher. For example, the one I have is published in 8 volumes. The
publisher is SRI VYAASAASRAMAM, ERPEDU, CHITTOOR District, A.P. However,
all 6 PrakaraNams - Vairaagya, Mumukshu, Utpaththi, Sthithi, Upasama, and
NirvaNa are covered. The Table of Contents (TOC) is quite elaborate to copy
here.

Or are you talking about the YOGAVAASISTHA HRIDAYAM authored by Sri Kuppa
Krishna Murthy garu of Mysore Ashramam? The TOC is elaborate in this as
well.

I know there is one book on 'Yoga vasista' in telugu, published from
Kalahasti. It is one large volume containing all the six prakaranas
and is priced at Rs. 150, inclusive of postage.

I would suggest a new learner to start with 'Yoga Vaasistha Saramu' (Telugu) written / translated / compiled by Sri Nori Srinatha Venkata Somayajulu. The book is having about 260 pages without losing the core essence. It has all the 6 prakarana's. It is published by 'Siva Kameswari Grandhamala' Vijayawada. Later you might want to move to 'Bruhat Yoga Vasistha maha Ramayan'
