The Root of the Puzzle
Jaya Guru Datta,
Here is today's saying:
“Who am I? Who am I? Who am I? I seem to be the very root the puzzle.
All these sense organs are like instruments which help me in my actions. Also,
they are being seen by me. How can those (which are my instruments and which
are seen by me) be 'I'?
The mind is the master, stimulator and the illuminator of sense organs. Even
the mind is 'seen' by me and it is my instrument. How can it be my self?
Buddhi makes decisions. Even buddhi falls into the same category. That which
thinks about past things is the Chitta. It also belongs to the same category.
That which asserts as 'I' in me is called Ahankara. Even this belongs to the
same category. How then can they assume the nature of Sachchidananda?"
In Sanskrit:
"Asmi kohamasmi masmi koham
Vismayaikamoolamasmi sosmi koham
Sadhanaatmikaa hi sendriyaalirasti
api cha saa madeeya drishya kotigaasti
Drishya bhootamapi cha me saadhanam yat
tat katham draagaham bhavitumarham? 1
Atha mano yadyapi indriyaanaam
naayakam prerakam bhaasakam cha
Taddhime drishyakam saadhanam cha
tat kathak svaatmataam me sameeyaat 2
Nishchayaatmikaapi buddhireva meva
chintanaatmakam cha chittameva meva
Sphoorti roopikaapyahamkriti sathaiva
sachidanandataam samaapnuyaat katham vaa? 3"
