Default Mahadeva Pls clear my doubts,.... - 09-25-2005, 02:24 AM

Shambho Shankara
Om namah Shivaya

Request to the members of this great divine group. Please clear my doubts

1) Why in some Lord shiva temples like Varanasi, Omkareshwar, the direction
of the Shiva linga is right to left. Means whenever we do abhisheka or any
other pooja the flow would be from the direction left to right ( i mean the
direction of the Base ). But in case of Great Varanasi temple and Omkareshwar
why the the direction is from right to left. And in Mahanandi temple also one
Shivalinga is like the same.

2) While doing Chanting with Japamala normally we move the beads in anticlockwise direction.
But sometimes i observed that some persons moves the beads in clockwise direction.
Actually what is the difference between these.

Om namah Shivaya

East and the north are the two acceptable orientations for the base
of Shiva ling in any temple as stipulated in Agama Shastra. So the
base Shiva ling is noticed either facing East or North direction in
any temple. While the devotee, who is worshipping Shiva Ling is
facing the East the base of Shiva Ling shall be oriented towards
north dirction. When the disciple is facing north while worshipping,
the base of Shiv Ling shall be oriented towards East. Base here shall
mean the point from where the Abhishek liquid (Water or Panchamrit)
flows out of Shiva Ling.

It is essential to note that Mani or Meru bead (A single bead hanging
like pendent of a chain) shall not cross the bridge finger from where
mala is hanging. The mala is rotated or slipped in anti clock wise
direction on bridge finger while counting.

Soon after one rotation is completed the mala should be brought back
to the same position or counting may be continued in clockwise
direction. Both options are acceptable as per the authorities
concerned . The later or second option is preferred by most in order
to avoid discontinuity in chanting the Mantra.

Further is to be kept in mind that the mala having mixed beads
(Containing different types of beads) shall not be used for counting,
however it can be used for wearing it around neck.

Aum Namah Shivaya
