Dhanvantri is considered as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. When the Ocean of Milk was churned by Devas and Asuras,Dhanvantri arose from the ocean with a Kalasa of life giving elixir or amruta and also had the Chakra and Sankhu the symbols of Vishnu. He is considered as the physician of devas and propounder of Ayurvedam. It is a common sight to see His photo in the Ayurveda doctors places esp. in Kerala. He is also considered to be an adept in ayurvedic surgery who taught the same to Susruthi, the father of Ayurvedic surgery..His mantra is:

AUM NAMO BHAGAVATHE VASUDEVAYA DHANVANTRAYE

AMRUTHA KALASA HASTHAAYA SARVAAMAYA VINASHANAAYA

THRILOKHYA NATHAYA SRI MAHAVISHNAVE NAMAHA II

( Obescience unto the Supreme Bhagawan known as Sudharsana Vasudeva

Dhanvantri, the holder of the kalasha full of nector of immortality, who removes

all fears, who removes all diseases. The well wisher of all the Three worlds, and sustainer of the three worlds and He is Vishnu Swarupa,By the name Dhanvantri Empowered to heal the Jiva souls.)

It must be remembered that though only 10 avatars hv been recognised Lord Vishnu had taken many incarnations for various purposes is the belief.Reciting the above mantra with full faith will cure many diseases is also the belief as the same is an euology of Lord Vishnu the remover of all ills and bestower of everything including salvation.

Hare Krishna.
