Default Aim of birth - 05-03-2003, 02:42 AM

SrI:

Dear SrIman Krishnamoorthy:

You referred in your note on "Aim of Birth "
to the famous Naasidiya Sooktham of Rg vedam
(X.129 ) starting with the Rk of "NaasadhAseennO--"
and ending with " iyam visrushtiryatha--" .

TheRks of this Sooktham are indeed profound reflections
on the Creation.

The scintillating poetry , the depth of philosophy
and the rigor of the description is simply beautiful.
The multiple intrepretations of the Vedic terms used
in this Sooktham extend in to many dimensions of
today's Physics, Astronomy and Cosmology.

The first sooktham asks with awe the question
after referring to the conditions that existed at
the time of Creation:

" There was not nonexistent( asath) nor existent
(sath); there was no realm of air , no sky beyond it ,
what covered in , and where ?and what gave shelter?
was, water(Ocean of Cosmic intelligence, salila)
there , unfathomed depth of water? ".

After attempting to answer these questions ,
the 6th mnahtram comes back and asks
again in wonderment(kO sraddhA veda):

" Who ,verily knows and who can here declare it ,
whence it was born and whence comes this creation----".

In the seventh Rk of this sooktham , a thundering
declaration is made (Iyam visrushtiryatha--):

" He is the First origin of this creation ,
whether He formed it all or did not form it.
Whose eye controls this world in the highest
heaven (paramE VyOman) , He verily knows it ,
or perhaps He knows not! "

The last Rk is nostalgic to me since it talks
about "ParamE VyOman" or SrI Vaikuntam .
VyOmapuri is ThiruviNNagar/Oppiliappan Koil,
which is also known as AaakAsa Nagaram or
SrI Vaikuntam and who is there but SrI Vaikunta NaaTan/
SrIman NaarAyaNan/OppilA appan .

The HiraNyagrabha Sooktham ( X.121 ) is another set of
manthrams dealing more straightforwardly with
Creation(Rig Vedam X.121)and starts with
"HiraNyagarbha: samavarthathAgrE--" and concludes
with "YaschidhApO--" :

Here , the mighty Creator is saluted as HiraNyagarbhA
or the Lord of golden light and divine radiance.

The first verse salutes this Lord Creator:

" At the beginning , there existed the Lord of
Divine effulgence. He was the sole Lord of all
createdbeings. He fixed and held up this earth
and heaven. TO THAT LORD ALONE, MAY WE OFFER OUR
ADORATIONS".

The fifth verse is another beautiful one:

" By Him , the heavens are strong and the earth
is steadfast;by Him light's realm and sky-vault
are supported.;by Him theregions in the mid-air
are measured. To that Lord alone , may we offer
our adorations".

In the X.130 of Rg Vedam , a brilliant synthesis is
obtained between Cosmic creation and cosmic worship
and how men and women are raised to the highest
and sublime status of Rishis and RishiNis.That
set of manthrAs concludes with the profound acknowledgement
that " My Lord is the greatest of weavers and He
incessantly weaves with profoundest care and skill".

What a Vedic Vision!
What an Universal View !
