> I am currently breastfeeding and ...
DEANA, your baby and you both need this constipation resolved very
soon; Baby is receiving much waste products also from the back up and
this should not continue, the extended breastfeeding is not worth it
for him/her - after 12 months it is primarily an emotional value, by
the way, according to Ayurveda, and not a nutritional need. Nor is
it healthy for you if it means depletion and ill health. You can do
a cleanse (more below) safely, but for you it sounds like getting
started on something is difficult, so I suggest something easy.
You should be passing stool at least once daily, best 2 - 3X. The
various suggestions for Radhika's exhaustion explain and offer much
for you, and in addition I'd recommend food wise avoiding raw
vegetables and favoring soups, freshly cooked within 6 hours, no
leftovers, also avoid anything requiring moisture from your body to
digest, like crackers, toast, potatoes, chips, dried fruits,
fermented cheeses etc.
And how to oleate with all that ama, and low appetite/agni - I'm
thinking - as you are breastfeeding I'd first have you do a week or
two of almost daily intake of the following recipe along with agni
enhancing below. The doctors viewing will have much wisdom including
herbal formulary, and I hope they will comment. I also know the
entanglements of maternal attachments

in terms of needing to start
with what is "in your kitchen". If you are willing to try this, I
would use the flax-cheese variations below for
digestible/comfort/hormonal/gentle laxative extra nutritional food
support while nursing, to stablize things a bit before going into the
dairy free mode. It handles very differently from dairy alone.
(webhost, if it is too much she can email me for it) and of course
adjust the quantity comfortable to you, but emphasise the 2 Tbs flax
oil quantity daily minimum:
FRESH CHEESE WITH FLAX OIL VARIATIONS
This preparation digests without phlegm if you use it properly
(discontinue while infectively or congestively sick), and is even
used with GREAT success according to friends of mine and per Dr.
Johanna Budwig of Germany for heart problems, diabetes and cancer
turnarounds. (
www.applepublishing.com for her books including
cookbook). One serving is about 4 – 8 ounces of cottage cheese, less
of panir.
• 4 – 8 ounces lowfat organic cottage cheese (if using panir or
ricotta, use less). Bring to room temperature.
• 2 TBS Highest Lignan Flax Oil (Barleans' brand really is
different in the lignan content, a key here)
• 1 tsp bee pollen (don't use cheap stuff from China or
elsewhere – hard, baked out nutrients) This is optional, balances
minerals and tastes great.
• Season to your preference as options, below.
• Puree in a food processor or mix well. This intimate
preparation of the sulphur bearing protein (cheese) with flax oil
makes a big difference, including for the heart. There the lipid
(fat) rich lymph empties into the venous blood and immediately it
mixes with oxygen rich blood creating (with electron rich fats)
dynamic and healthy electromagnetic energy in the heart. With cell
wall function and formation this mix supports both healthier
transport back and forth, and minimizes cellular stickiness which has
been shown to build many health problems, including cancers. The bee
pollen provides more added nutrition of protein, minerals, vitamins,
enzymes.
• Serve over 1 – 2 TBS ground Flax seed and your choice of flat
bread, as dip, sauce for veggies or avocado, or on baked potato,
noodles or rice.
Options to play with:
• a teaspoon or less honey or maple syrup, less for savory
taste seasonings
• My standard is turmeric with pinch cardamom and 3 drops
essential oil of lemon - juice of lemon is great too.
• Excellent sweet with cardamom, vanilla and/or few soaked
saffron threads
• Curry powder, chili powder, toasted cumin, Italian herb
seasonings, etc.
• Salt, pepper, cayenne, fresh ginger, garlic
• Thin and take chill off if needed/desired with warm cream or
fresh whey, water or broth, but don't cook flax oil.
• Do not mix with banana; Dr. Lad says banana with dairy is
carcinogenic. For some, use of other fruits may possibly be ok
occasionally like strawberry, blueberry, pineapple, papaya although
Dr. Lad also recommends fruit with anything else should be avoided.
"I eat small amts of food but feel very very full and stay very
full..." Your agni is your AAAAH for life, and ability to chew it
(the closure of the "G" sound - Sanskrit is a name and form
language). Fortunately using more pungent and bitter spices in
foods, teas and medicines helps reignite the agni. You might be able
to start with what is in your kitchen with nibbling every hour on
fresh ginger root (just a nibble) - this I learned from Dr. John
Douillard. Or a fresh ginger pickle before each meal - take thin
slices of the ginger enough for several days is ok in a jar, sprinkle
fresh lemon juice on it and eat one ideally 1/2 hour before your
meals. In addition there will be ama to burn and eliminate, but you
have to start somewhere ie where you are. Chai type culinary spices
in teas along with fresh ginger will also be important; it shoudl be
easy with weather cooling as well as your condition to favor only
warm liquids, and favor these flavors rather than hibiscus,
raspberry, etc usually recommended in western herbalism. Keep a
thermous full of weak tea to drink/even sip a bit hourly thru the
day; another good one is equal parts of cumin/coriander/fennel
(supports deacidifying, digestion, lactation, hormones); 1 tsp boiled
in a quart of water 3 minutes.
I only have bowel movements once a week,...
I'd use castor oil, followed by a cup or more of hot water and a hot
tub soak or hot water bottles on the tummy to move it once, but not
daily this. Psyllium seed husk in the am if you can down it, but I
don't want to overload, let us start a few things at a time. It
won't "fix" overnight.
But you can do a home or clinic panchakarma of the more gentle school
while you are breastfeeding, according to Maharishi Ayurveda, and I'd
highly recommend it. Some ayurvedic panchakarma massage is much more
vigorous and might be contraindicated, so check around or contact me
for some recommendations. You might want to pick up Dr. Vasant Lad's
book, The Complete GUide to AYurvedic Home Remedies, which includes a
home cleanse you can do after leveling out some more immediate
concerns, but stay in touch with a vaidya while doing it, as you
will have many questions and experiences I expect.
Blessings, I hope you are able to begin some of these things, even
one a day until things move.
