The primary series will unfold for you over a life time but
proficiency with it takes the average person anyware from 1-5 years
and the not so average people (extreamly flexable and stroung or its
opposite) may take from 6mo. to 10 years, westernly speaking.
Patanjali says to do our postures without movement and with comfort
and to do this while meditating on the infinate.
What i get from this is when my asana practice is as patanjali states
in 2.46-2.48 then...well I probably wont care how far I am with my
asana punch list.
I also believe that every step we take forward in this practice is in
a sence meditating on the infinate.
