I am in Australia too and I have 3 VCR's which can play NTSC and they all
can take both the Japanese and American NTSC formats so I think it is a good
chance your video is compatible with both.

Have you checked out www.mauiyoga.com? I believe they offer their videos in
alternate formats. Good luck!!

freeman dvd from amazon.com and I live in Italy,
(Europe) and it works fine.
