Blessed with song
.... "I came here mainly to participate in the akanda bhajan (which
was held on Nov 8 and 9 in Kuala Lumpur), an annual event where
bhajans are sung non-stop for 24 hours simultaneously around the
world for world peace. My trip here is purely by luck, or should I
say, destiny. Last June, I met a Malaysian in India who had heard of
me and my work, and he invited me over ... and here I am," he
said. ...
"You see, I come from central India and in the late 1960s and early
1970s, the (Satya Sai Baba) movement was getting started there. I
was a young boy at the time. I was roped in. They (the elders) told
us young boys to join in the prayers instead of idling our time away.
"We were all young boys and used to have a lot of fun. But soon, I
realised I must put my energy into singing and so I started singing
seriously and composing. I composed my first few bhajans when I was
12 and, by the time I was 14, I had composed quite a few bhajans,"
says the father of two.
Now, with 20 albums and more than 500 compositions under his belt,
Nasery is a well-established bhajan and ghazal vocalist in India,
often performing with other top-ranking singers of this genre, like
Jagjit Singh and Hariharan. His powerful voice, soulful music and
prowess at the harmonium has garnered him a following across the
globe, namely in Canada, the United States, Britain and
Mauritius. ...
