Namaste Everyone,

Can someone please fill me in on what predictions Amma has said in 2005? I am
not aware of this and have never heard of it. Does anyone have this article?

I know very little, & whether it would be of natural or man made origin. But,
at the R.I. retreat last year, someone distributed a notice that explained how
Amma wasn't too interested in having a 50th. birthday celebration, since She is
never born & never dies. BUT, She had been interested in Her children gathering
to pray for the reduction of suffering from a catastrophe She forsaw taking
place in 2005. Amma has said something about how the power of our prayers can
be increased when we do it together, as drops of water form a wave. I believe
that's the reason last year it was recommended for people chant "Om lokah
samastah sukino bhavantu," for 10 minutes simultaneously at 7:00 PST. The
practice included lighting a candle & visualizing it as Divine light spreading
around the world.

Swamiji announced on Amma's behalf at the RI Devi Bhava this year that
the circumstances predicted for 2005 could be very well mitigated by prayer,
japa and sadhana.... that there were clouds passing over the sun, but the
clouds could be blown past the sun quicker by God's Grace if we all pray for
That. It was also mentioned that at least part of this "dark period" would
mainfest itself in our nation's economy. Neither Swamiji nor Amma were
anymore specific than that on the matter, really. Amma just encouraged us all
to pray and ask for God's grace, and assured us that extra effort in prayer and
spiritual practices would have a substantial effect on whatever was to come,
and that She didn't want us to be afraid.

I believe that Jyotish also tells us that in 2005, the United States is
predisposed to economical hard times, and that astrological conditions at that
time will be quite similar and/or the same as those immediately prior to the
Great Depression of 1929. Anyone have any more astrological information
that would help here?

I was in Rhode Island both last year and this year. It's funny, I
don't remember, at least during the RI Devi Bhava this year, any
mention of an economic disaster or anything so specific. It seems
everyone remembers it a little bit differently. I remember it
something like this:

....Anyway, Devi Puja had just ended and Amma was about to leave the
stage to change for Devi Bhava. Then she said something like the
following and Big Swami translated it:

Many people have been coming to me asking about 2005. People are
worried and asking things such as, "Amma, should I sell my stocks,
should I buy stocks, should I buy a house", etc., etc. Amma wants to
let you know that she had seen dark clouds over the sun, but perhaps
these dark clouds can also be good if they turn into rain. If the
clouds turn into rain, this will be good. So everyone must pray very
hard. Nobody should be afraid. There is nothing to be afraid of.

At least during the devi puja I don't have any recollection of Amma
or Swamiji mentioning that a great deal of this has been mitigated. I
have heard other accounts where Swamiji told this to devotees in
Seattle this year. On another Amma yahoo group some people are saying
it concerns the world water supplies. I'm not sure where this
speculation has come from. A year ago another scenario was being
passed around which was worse than any of these. So what do you guys
remember on this...those of you who were in Rhode Island this past
year?

This child humbly bows and apologizes if he has remembered things
inaccurately or reported his remembrances inaccurately. The last thing I
would want is to misrepresent anything Amma or Swamiji said. The most
important and vivid part of it all for me was Swamiji saying Amma didn't want
us to be afraid but to pray. That was really what I got from it.
