The Path of Spiritual Love, Part Three, By Sant Rajinder Singh
The role of a spiritual adept is to clean our heart so that it is
pure enough to return to God. The first step in this direction is for
a seeker to have a desire to know God. There comes a point in our
life where we begin to wonder who we are, why we are here, what is
God, and what happens to us after death. It is like an orphaned or an
adopted child who becomes old enough to question who his or her real
father and mother is. We start wondering about the great power that
created us. God hears the sincere cry of His children. Out of
compassion, He brings the seeker in contact with a spiritual Master
who can help him or her realize God.
A spiritual adept has merged in the ocean of love called God and can
help others do the same. He connects us with the stream of the Light
and Sound, the divine Naam or Word. The same stream that flowed out
from God to bring about all creation, also returns to God. We can
contact that stream within us at a point known as the third or single
eye, located between and behind the two eyebrows. This current of the
Light and Sound is the same essence as God and the soul. It is all
love. At the time of initiation the Master opens up the inner eye and
inner ear so we can see and hear the divine stream of Light and
Sound. He teaches us a method of meditation whereby our attention can
concentrate at the eye-focus and we can become absorbed within.
During meditation we see various colored Lights. As we become more
absorbed, we cross through inner stars, moon, and sun, and then reach
the radiant form of our spiritual mentor. This form is so attractive
and so loving, we become more and more absorbed in it. We transcend
body-consciousness and soar with the radiant form of the Master
through the inner realms. As the journey begins we are permeated with
divine love and bliss. He takes us with him to the astral plane, the
causal plane, and the supracausal plane, until we finally merge back
in the purely spiritual region of Sach Khand. At this stage we become
one with God. We experience the wonder of spiritual love for we are
one with the source of love itself.
The path back to God is a journey of love. While there is a definite
technique in meditation, one's success depends on love. We meditate
with a deep sense of having love for God and yearning to know Him.
When we receive initiation from our Master and he gives us our first
experience of Light and Sound, we begin to develop love for him. As
we meditate more and more we experience love and bliss by coming in
contact with the inner Light and Sound. The divine stream of Light
and Sound has the power to cleanse our soul. The more we become
absorbed in it, the more its love and divinity fills our heart.
Slowly, the impurities of mind, matter, and the world are washed
away. We develop more and more love for God, the Master, and the Naam
or Word within us. This love enables us to focus our attention wholly
and solely on the inner Light. The more concentrated we are, the more
success we experience in meditation. ///
