In the rush of modern life, it is easy to to lose touch with the peace that
is available in every moment. Internationally respected Zen master, poet,
peace activist and author Thich Nhat Hanh (Thây) shows us how to make
positive use of the very situations that usually pressure and antagonise us.
A ringing telephone can become a reminder, calling us back to our true
selves. A red traffic light can be a spiritual friend on the path of
mindfulness. Our deepest feelings of joy can be as close as our next breath.

In the year 2000, approx. 58,700 people including children received direct
teaching & practice from Thây. He spoke in 9 countries, UK, France, Germany,
Italy, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, US, Vietnam (via telephone link)
through retreats, public talks and mindfulness days. Thay's teachings are
universally accessible, relevant for all people, no matter what their
religious background.

The United Nations has declared this decade as the 'International Decade for
a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World' as
presented in its Peace Manifesto 2000. Thich Nhat Hanh ("Thây"), at the
U.N.'s invitation, assisted in drafting the Manifesto, and with its launch,
embarked on a teaching tour of Europe in October 2000, dedicated to bringing
peace to the world, by offering a way to develop peace within ourselves. He
speaks and touches deeply those who, in his words, "have been fired by war
and suffering".

"There is a path - the path of understanding and compassion - the path of
transformation, of your own being and of society."

In London this year, Thây offers three consecutive evenings, of Dharma talks
and meditation practice, on the same theme. Peace in oneself, Peace in the
world.

In order to go deeper in the practice each night, participants are invited
to consider the evenings as a retreat; if possible attending all three,
avoiding as much media distraction as possible during the daytime, and
following a light, healthy diet. Here is a way to take a three-day retreat
while staying home (or at a friend's home). A very effective and powerful
training in bringing peace into your busy family life

Thich Nhat Hanh, 75 years old, affectionately known as 'Thay' (Teacher) by
his students is widely recognised as one of the most important spiritual
leaders in the world today.

Martin Luther King nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967 and said

"I am privileged to call him my friend. He is a holy man, for he is humble
and devout. He is a scholar of immense intellectual capacity. His ideas for
peace, if applied, would build a monument to ecumenism to world brotherhood,
to humanity"

The Trappist monk, Thomas Merton, said of him:

"Just the way he opens a door and enters a room demonstrates his
understanding. He is a true monk".

The Chinese Government, after its representatives attended a conference on
Peace Building at Plum Village, invited him to visit China to teach their
young monks and nuns.

At the World AIDS Summit at the White House, Dec 1st 2000, he represented
the Buddhist Delegation and moved the hearts of 75 delegates of various
religious leaders at that Conference by his sincere and wholehearted
contribution.

At the 2001 Annual Meeting of Business and Political Leaders gathering in
DAVOS Switzerland, many leaders came to him and thanked him for having
offered a new spiritual dimension to the Conference.

And Father Thomas, a Catholic priest, after hearing Thay's Christmas Dharma
talk, said that he believed him to be "opening up a spiritual path for the
21st Century, for people in all walks of life, in all parts of the world",
and expressed a wish that "Catholics everywhere could have heard it".

Thich Nhat Hanh is bringing the essential teachings of the Buddha; based on
conscious breathing and being fully aware of the present moment to look
deeper and to be in touch with the eternal peace and joy in ourselves. He
has written many books including : "The Miracle of Mindfulness", "Being
Peace", "Living Buddha, Living Christ", "Peace is Every Step", "Going
Home:
Jesus and Buddha as Brothers" and "For a future to be possible" .
