Re: Re: THE MEANING OF AUM?
Among all the Avatars, Krishna is the most attractive incarnation. The very word
Krishna means one who attracts "Krishyati iti Krishnah" is another derivation
for the name. Krishna is one who cultivates. In the case of Avatars, this means
that Krishna is the Lord, who cultivates the heart of the devotee by removing
the weeds, sowing the seeds of good qualities and growing the crop of love.
Krishna thus means the one who cultivates our hearts and raises in them the
crop of bliss.
The letter - Ka, Ra, Sha, Na, Aa - have been interpreted as signifying the
glorious attributes of Krishna.
Ka - Represents Kamalakantha, the Lord of Lakshmi.
- Other meanings are Kamaleshwara and Kamlagarbha The Lord of the Lotus and the
one from whose navel the lotus has issued.
- He is also Known as Kamalabhaandavudu, the Kinsman of the lotus.
The inner significance of these interpretations is that when Divinity manifests
within us, the heart blooms like a lotus before the Sun. "Ka" thus symbolizes
the sun principle also.
Ra Represents the principle of delight.
Sha Represents Vishnu, the source of all wealth and progeny.
Na Symbolises Narasimha Avatar.
Aa Reveals the Akshara Swarupa of the Lord, His imperishable and eternal quality.
It must be clearly understood that Krishna was the manifestation of the Divine.
The name Krishna has to be properly understood.
"Krish" + "Na" = Krishna
This means that he is one who cultivates (Krish) the heart. Another derivation,
indicates that Krishna is one who attracts people not only by the matchless
beauty of His form (but) He attracts people by His music, His dance, His sports
and His words. Krishna, by His winsome ways, could turn the anger of the Gopis
towards Him, because of his pranks, into an enjoyable joke.
Krishna wherever he was, he was always immersed in bliss. The Gita is a song,
and because Krishna was the embodiment of joy, he could sing even on the battle
field. The word Krishna has following meanings.
(a)"Krishyathi iti Krishna" - (the one who cultivates is Krishna)
- Krishna cultivates the field of our heart by removing the weeds of bad
qualities, watering it with love, ploughing it with the use of Sadhana, and
sowing the seeds of devotion.
(b)"Karshathi iti Krishna" - (the one who attracts is Krishna)
- Krishna attracts by His eyes, His speech, His sports and by every action of
His. By his worlds, he softens and calms the hearts of even those filled with
hatred and makes them rejoice.
(c)"Kurshyathi iti Krishnah" - (one who is always blissful)
- Because of these the sage Garga named him Krishna. The essence of Krishna's
life is that He proclaimed the truth to the world, propagated the eternal
verities and delighted the world by His Leelas.
The individual who can satisfy your yearning pertaining to the Divine can be
called Krishna. "Karshate iti Krishnaha, Krushite iti Krishnaha, Krushate iti
Krishnaha" are three different aspect of Krishna. These are three different
form of Sat, Chit and Ananda and these are present in all the Yugas. Kunti
addresses Krishna as Madhava. 'Ma' - means Lakshmi and it also means Maya
(illusion). The word 'Dhava' means master. In this sense, Krishna is the Master
of Nature, Lakshmi and Maya.
Everything in the whole Universe is controlled by some laws. The five elements
constituting earth, and the vast ocean are controlled by certain laws and
regulations. Since man's life is a part of the world, it has to be regulated.
Whether it is for love or for hatred or anger, some regulation is necessary.
Such regulation has been shown to us as an example by Sri Krishna in his life
time.
