Default Nature Worship - Mountains, Oceans, Rivers, plants, etc.... - 10-29-2004, 03:07 AM

first, let me express my appreciation to Raviji for quoting those
beautiful lines from Ghalib. Thank you so much for this timely
reference.

When we talk of Nature worship, i am reminded of these famous lines
from Tagore's Gitanjali.

"Thy gifts to us mortals fulfil all our needs and yet run back to
thee undiminished.

The river has its everyday work to do and hastens through fields and
hamlets; yet its incessant stream winds towards the washing of thy
feet.

The flower sweetens the air with its perfume; yet its last service is
to offer itself to thee.

Thy worship does not impoverish the world.

>From the words of the poet men take what meanings please them; yet

their last meaning points to thee."

Yes! dear hearts. in Rig veda also, you will find many verses that
praise and glorify all elements of Nature- HONORING 1) Earth or
Prithvi 2)Agni or fire 3) Ushas or Dawn 4) Rain God - Indra 5) Rivers
like Saraswati etc...

In fact, the Mountains are considered the abode of GODS - Kailash !
Nanda devi ! Annapurna mountain in Nepal and of course Shri Ramana's
ARUNCHALA!

THE banks of sacred rivers like Ganga are considered pilgrimage
spots. The banks of river Yamuna are revered as sacred spots where
Lord Krishna sported with his beloved Gopis.

and speaking of trees - Neem, pipal, banyan tree are all revered for
their reproduction as well as 'healing' and medicinal properties.
THEY ARE CALLED KALPATARUS- GRANTING EVERY WISH !

and talking of plants, Tulasi plant is worshipped as representing
Devi , a one time consort of lord Krishna.

and cows are considered as 'Kamadhenu' -the wish-fullfilling Mother !
the cows milk nourishes you and nurtures you.

and hindus even worship 'snakes' as Naga-devata.

Thus, mountains, rivers, plants, oceans etc all reprsent God's
creation ... how can one seperate the creator from his creation?
Prakriti and Purusha are inseperable!

As our beloved Poet Tagore says ...

"According to the true Indian view, our consciousness of the world,
merely as the sum total of things that exist, and as governed by
laws, is imperfect. But it is perfect when our consciousness realizes
all things as spiritually one with it, and therefore capable of
giving us joy. For us the highest purpose of this world is not merely
living in it, knowing it and making use of it, but realizing our own
selves in it through expansion of sympathy; not alienating ourselves
from it and dominating it, but comprehending and uniting it with
ourselves in perfect union."

Yes, dear hearts ! True spirituality lies in living in harmony with
Nature ....

LOVE AND REGARDS
