Default Re: Guru-Rahu debate-- Rahu ( Asteroid Belt ) - 05-31-2006, 05:07 PM

Dear Arjun-ji,

Namsakaar, I do not have much jyotish knowledge, but as regards the
asteroid belt (Rahu ??) between Mars and Jupiter, here is some
reference you may want to look at.

There is no asteroid belt between Mercury and Venus, except few
objects between Mercury's and Venus'
( Reference 1:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...tance_from_Sun )

Reference 2:

Asteroids are material left over from the formation of the solar
system. One theory suggests that they are the remains of a planet
that was destroyed in a massive collision long ago. More likely,
asteroids are material that never coalesced into a planet. In fact,
if the estimated total mass of all asteroids was gathered into a
single object, the object would be less than 1,500 kilometers (932
miles) across, less than half the diameter of our Moon.

There are two hypotheses about how most of the asteroids formed. One
says they broke off of a mother planet that existed between Mars and
Jupiter. More likely, however, they represent what space was like
before the planets formed, and they are the remnants of that
process -- bits and pieces that never quite joined together.

Regards,
