Default Depression - 01-27-2000, 11:29 AM

I know that yoga and meditation have a tremendous effect on keeping me
out of depression. I think the biggest thing for mental health is
exercise, relaxation, better nutrition and spiritual growth. I went
through severe depression a little over a year ago. I didn't start doing
yoga until after the depression was under control. I can only speak from
my experience. If they are going through severe depression, suggest they
see a doctor (yes, an M.D. or psychiatrist). I believe that under some
circumstances, medication is needed to pull out of the depression. I
really struggled w/ getting on anti-depressants and I put it off until I
was so depressed that I literally could not function in my life.
Anti-depressants made it possible for me to get out of the depression and
clear my head so I could make the positive changes necessary to keep me
from becoming that depressed again. If these people don't come out of it
soon, definately suggest a doctor--one that will support them getting off
the anti-depressants as soon as possible, too. I suffered from the hell
of despression, plus criticism from friends that I wasn't being "all
natural". It was very difficult. I'm in the process of reducing my
dosages until I'm compeltely off. Also, for less severe depression,
there is St. John's Wort. Just make sure they know that they'll be more
sensitive to sun when they are on it and it has to be taken every day to
work. Good Luck, Sat Nam, Jeanette
