Chedi thalinkana - Ancient warfare


My ancestors hail from a small village in Konaseema of Andhra Pradesh in India.
Beauty of the land is ineffable. Holy river Godavari circumferences Konaseema.
People of Konaseema are circumscribed for their chastity, bravery and for their
spiritual strength. Indian history particularly during freedom fight
conspicuously projects valiant heroes from this land.


Midst of Konaseema is a small village by name Amalapuram, with full of Shakthi
and Vishnava temples.



Dassara is their main festival celebrated with great pomp. During the carnival
Cheedi thalinkana is exhibited.. Hundreds of people from near and far gather to
witness the performance.


Indian freedom fighters have adopted this war science to free the Mother land
from invaders.


Dassara conveys triumph of Divine against Evil. Mother has raised war against
Asuras and destroyed them. Scriptures like Devimahatyam etc illustrates
exhaustively the war she has fought glorifying Her strength


This specialized warfare originated in the year 1856. This ancient martial art
is carried from generation to generation through Guru parampara. Pre requisites
for the students are perseverance, integrity and immense of faith on Shakti.
Perversions in the trainee are fatal to there lives. This science has become
more popular and gained recognition by the hard work of Sri Acchireddy Ramadasu.


Training session is drafted meticulously. Masters who teaches these sciences are
supposed to be adapts in warfare. Recent martial arts like are the offshoots of
this warfare.


Prayers and worships occupy a major part in training. It is believed that daily
prayers and worship to Shakthi bestows strength, courage and concentration.
Without a firm concentration one cannot unfold the dormant energies in the body
in order to reach the supreme stage. All the prayers are carried out with utmost
reverence and veneration. Combatants pay their homage to Shakthi by placing
their weaponry before Shakti. Their upasana shakthi is called Bhetala Shakthi.
Bhetala Shakthi is worshiped before the combat to usher them with victory.


To show their respect to the Divine Mother during Dassara, combatants assemble
in front of the village Goddess. After performing Shakthi pujat to Bhetala and
to few other Gods, valiant hero’s entire the arena.


Participant blind folds and holding a sharp double edge sword and with one swing
he severs the coconut place on the abdomen. With a swift blow he plucks a small
grape placed on the eye of his opponent. These are few enchanting exhibits
performed in front of Shakti temple on Vijayadasami day. Mahabharat epic
narrates that Pandavas divine weapons were kept obscure on this same day. It is
a custom in India to worship weapons on this day.


The entire evening ambience will be filled with sounds of swords, daggers,
sticks and spears. Later followed by regular associated rituals. This all
uplifts the minds of people to great spiritual heights.


Knowledge in yoga, pranayama are additional requirements. They prepare sadhaka
to face both external and internal obstacles . Chedi thalinkana is an
unprecedented combat.
